Title: Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia Rated by the ESRB
Post by: Nick DiMola on April 15, 2008, 08:15:30 PM
The follow up title to Dawn of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin has been revealed by both the ESRB and the US Patent and Trademark Office.

Just a few weeks ago, Konami registered rights to the title Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia under use for video game software. Along with the filing for the title, was the official logo for the game. At that time, it was uncertain as to what systems the game was planned to be made for. As of today, the ESRB has listed a rating of T (Teen) for the title, and listed it as a DS title.

With this information revealed by the ESRB, it is safe to say that this is the game that Koji Igarashi hinted at last October in an interview with GayGamer.net at the E for All convention. This would also make it the spiritual successor to the other DS Castlevania titles, Dawn of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin. Both titles followed the Metroid-esque style first presented in Symphony of the Night on the Playstation.

Some cursory analysis of the title reveals the word Ecclesia. The term ecclesia is often used in the Greek version of the New Testament of the Bible as a synonym for the word Church. By replacing Ecclesia in the title with Church, it may hint at a focus of the story behind the game.

Currently little else is known about this title. Stay tuned for more information as the story develops.

If true... Awesome!

Horrible name.  Almost as bad as the title of the new bond flick, Quantum of Solace.

But who cares?  My frothing demand for all things 2D Castlevania.

Story prediction:  A mysterious cult has kidnapped the president's daughter.  They plan to use an ancient parasite to rule the world.  It is up to a Belmont descendant to travel to an unnamed European village, rescue her, and stop the cult's plan for world domination.

Uh... Nick.

Where's the actual news story?  I don't see it on the main page.

What, that ecclesia means church is not common knowledge?

Pretty weak title IMO, sounds like a generic jRPG.

I found PoR kind of a letdown, the Metroid Fusion style "sublevel" design was pretty annoying, killed a lot of the nonlinear feeling. I have hopes that this one will be better though.

I wasn't crazy about Portrait, but I loved both Dawn and Aria of Sorrow. I'm a Castlevania nut, so I'm looking forward to this new one!

Yeah PoR wasn't my favorite, but I still played it to completion anyway. Hopefully this one is like DoS/AoS because those are my favorites.

PoR wasn't bad by any standard.  I was a little annoyed that so many elements were recycled for the second half of the game, but overall, it was still a great piece of software.  I beat that game 100% with all four characters (or at least as close as you could get with the sisters).

I just beat Dawn of Sorrow like a couple of months ago and besides being too short that was a great game in my opinion. But I am sorta behind on my Castlevania playing so I'm gonna wait on getting this game anyways.
