Episode 94: Total Chaos
Jon Lindemann returns, bringing the crew back together. He fills us in on Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword, and then we get off topic. Jonny shills his (real) Magic cards (here's the auction) and discusses Magic Online. We get off topic. James brings us back to Brawl (off topic). Greg plays Hurry Up Hedgehog and Pinball (not at once), and we go off topic.
Other plans were made, but...

It's funny, because Jonny said something like "We could just put this out and do thew new business as it's own podcast. It's that good."
Then we had to.
Let us never speak of such ideas again.
(I tried to hide that URL behind a short link word, but it wouldn't work!)
Doesn't help if you don't provide instructions! I've been making links in HTML for ten years, yet I can't figure out this crappy UBB stuff.

From what I understand Ready at Dawn put a ton of work into the game and had one heck of a time getting it together, even having to rebuild certain sections because of the loss of code. This is a port where effort was put into it.
Though on the whole I agree with you, GP, that Wii owners have got to try Okami out if they haven't played it already, I must say something about this:From what I understand Ready at Dawn put a ton of work into the game and had one heck of a time getting it together, even having to rebuild certain sections because of the loss of code. This is a port where effort was put into it.
There are no points for effort when it comes to quality. "Good job" and "good try" are two very separate terms. Let's not confuse how hard something is to do with how good the final product actually is.
Please give us your impressions of Red Steel on an upcoming podcast Jonny.
I can't believe how much Okami Wii bashing there was, based off a NP review (We have no real idea about how the "new" NP works) and 1up. From what I understand the game has some minor problems, mainly drawing straight lines (though Matt at IGN says that can be rectified by shorter, quicker lines), and that the main game runs amazingly well, not to mention it has better visuals than the PS2 version in full widescreen. Personally I think if Wii owners ignore the game, even if it is just "good", then we deserve more crap on the system. From what I understand Ready at Dawn put a ton of work into the game and had one heck of a time getting it together, even having to rebuild certain sections because of the loss of code. This is a port where effort was put into it. Out of principle Wii owners should purchase the game if they don't have Okami for PS2.
I'm not even going to touch the so called hardcore gamers and Mario Kart Wii.

It should just end with "Stupid AI."
It should start with that too.
And say that a lot.
The AI is really stupid.
Now, didn't I tell people that reviewers would crap all over Okami Wii for the sole fact that its a port?
Its VERY rare for a port to be received as well as the original did (except for RE 4 Wii edition), especially since they come late and may bring some issues that weren't present in the original.
That and Wii reviewers make a big deal out of every issue, no matter how game killing or shallow it is ;) .

RE4 Wii Edition was exactly what a late port should be: appropriate, enhanced, and cheap. Its quality is unassailable. It is better than the GC version in every way. If Okami for Wii can match that form, I'm sure it will be just as successful. Early indications are that it does not succeed so fully, though. The worthiness of the final product and whether it can be recommended is independent of whatever trials and tribulations the developer went through to make it. I'm sure Ready at Dawn had less than ideal circumstances, and that any problems with the game will at least partially fall on the shoulders of Capcom. That doesn't mean we should all ignore those flaws. Unless they have broken the game (doubtful), Okami will be well worth a purchase for any Wii owner who does not have access to a PS2. But if the original version is superior in any significant way, that absolutely has to be mentioned and considered because, after all, this is the same game at its core that has been available for two years on another system.
Well on multiple occasions I could've picked up a clearance copy of Okami for the PS2, but I would rather support the Wii version. So far the reviews don't really lead me to believe the Wii version is in any significant way inferior to the PS2 version. I honestly don't care what NP or 1up has to say because I rarely find that my experience with any particular game parallels theirs.
[Once again, did you guys play the game or are just repeating what everyone else is saying?
Remember, 1up didn't like the controls in RE4 Wii Edition, I don't think we should be trusting their judgment here.

So pap's allowed to make endless comments about games he's never played, but NWR can't do the same? DOUBLE STANDARD.
I was referring to his incessant negative ramblings about Brawl.

Back to topic: The online in brawl isn't the best thing in the world but it is far from the worst. I think its even cool that there is a spectator mode and you can bet on players(ZOMG nintendo is teaching I am a terrible poaster. s that gambling is fun!)
Its far from the worst, yes, but could have been MUCH better. Even if we were warned to expect lag with players living very far from each other it is VERY surprising that even players that are living right next to each other are getting slideshows for battles.
Worst of all, Nintendo's solution is to "wait it out". That will not happen as the game is still selling by the thousands and every day there are new players joining the ranks.
Logic dictates that when there are way too many people playing at the same time you take action and try to remedy this. But Nintendo has looked the other way.
Not only that, Mario Kart Wii looks to deliver as much more satisfying online experience. I remember Sakurai said that doing leaderboards was hard and couldn't make it in time. Yet, MK Wii is going to have one and MORE.
Brawl is the product of misplaced priorities. Its great that they got 4 player battles with all items, all stages and all options available, but Nintendo should have been better prepared and deliver at the very least a clean online experience.

EDIT: I just realize I sound like a total prick. Sorry about that.
It should. It's edited. There are a lot of chapters today, so I suggest you get the AAC feed if you can.
