Title: Analog Sticks......
Post by: kraken613 on April 04, 2008, 02:44:05 PM
Hey I found a Wavebird for $10! Score!
But one thing is the analog stick dosnt have the rubber covering on it. Is there anyway to replace the covering?

The analog stick is made of hard plastic and the top has several raised, concentric circles.  There is no rubber covering.

Although if you look hard enough online i'm sure you can find rubber grips for them. I remember seeing them for ps2 and xbox a while back, not sure if gamecube was popular enough to have crappy extras like that made for it

It's not a covering; it's a part of the mold.

You either bought some generic rip-off of the Wavebird, or got it used, because someone must have used it to much it wore down the plastic.

Actually Vudu I've had mine Chewwed by my Chinchilla's, long story, there is in fact hard plastic under the soft nuby plastic that is the outer casing on the Wavebird.  Unfortunately the only replacments I found is GelTabz but they are to think for the low profile of the Gamecube controller.

I don't know how, but my dad has some way of dipping his tool handles into liquid rubber so he can put rubber grips on his wrenches and hammers and so forth. That's a great thing too, because it gives a better grip than the bare metal.

I don't know how he does it, but if you can find that liquid rubber stuff you could probably dip the nub into it and give it a rubber coating. Baring that, you might also just cut a small piece off a latex glove and wrap it over the nub and secure it in place with either a twist-tie or a rubber band. It would certainly look like crap, but it might get the job down at least.

Those are just a few suggestions. I don't know if either of them will work or not, but you could give them a shot.

NO. The rubber covering is actually rubber covering. If you abuse your GameCube controllers enough, it can actually be peeled off. My brother brought out cube and controllers to school every friday for like... a couple semesters.... and we went through so many GC controllers that way...

Thats what I did.  I also have them on my nunchucks.  When I first put it on my PS3 controller after I found that I couldn't get them to work with my Wavebird.  There a little weird to start with but I like them after using them a little bit.
