Title: as i gaze in to my crystal ball
Post by: walkingdead2 on March 30, 2008, 10:46:27 PM
so i was board today and thinking.  whet is the next iteration of the wii going to be like.  i know were at least 5 years off so its really hard to predict.  but with the ps3 having half the wii controls and the rumors of the 360 getting something like that in the future the next generation is going to be really interesting.  I'm really wondering if Nintendo is going to stick to there approach of low horse power to keep the cost of development down.

for the most part i think we can say that this "blue ocean" strategy is working for Nintendo.  so far what hard core games we have out there have not been doing that well but the casual games have been.  and if Nintendo makes it its going to be a million seller.

i guess what I'm getting at is I'm wondering if the big N is going to go with say the power of the 360 for the wii2.  were already getting to the point where these machines are only going to get better in the subtle details, things like characters on screen and little details like backgrounds and what not. theres not much left to do as far as prosesing power.  then again i said that shortly after the ps2 launched.

I think that what they need to do is see what everyone else will do.

Microsoft will find a way to make it "hardcore", and Nintendo needs to see what that is all about.  (Which Nintendo won't do)

They barely went with the power of gamecube for wii 1. They'd power the next one with a game boy color if they could get away with it.

The Wii 2 will be the final nail in the coffin for traditional games. With the DS and Wii Nintendo has discovered that they don't need expensive rehashes of Ocarina of TIme and Super Smash Bros. to make money, so, when Wii 2 rolls around, Nintendo will finally stop pretending to care about core gamers. They'll only release games like Brain Training and Nintendogs - and other developers and console makers will follow suit. Complicated games will go the way of interactive fiction (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interactive_fiction).

In a perfect world Nintendo's next console would be a more core gamer focused version of the Wii, with improved graphics, more buttons on the controllers, a more robust online service, etc. that would be backwards compatible with the Wii, which would still be supported for the casuals/nongamers/whatever we're calling them this week. In the real world Nintendo is going to have to find a way to make the gameplay different enough and make the perfect game to pack in with it as a showcase for it in order to get the people who bought the Wii for Wii Sports to buy it.

I was here when you came here and I saw.  Do I need to start digging up threads you made back then?

you know i understand that what i said was wrong.  it was supposed to be.  but what i don't understand is that the mods allow crap to be said that got me mad.  yet do nothing to the people who start the argument.

so i get warned (and rightly so) but all i was doing was defending myself.

whatever.

Well, I liked the thread. Nintendo will most likely go at least 720p next gen.

There are better ways to defend yourself than putting up a post like that. If you feel a user is offending you, feel free to report it to a moderator, that is why we have a moderation system on these boards.

I don't approve of trolling threads not in the funhouse.  Do whatever the hell you want there (except hawtness).  That's why I left a warning for them too.  I just didn't have a single post to warn, so I couldn't do it in an edit.

It wasn't "allowed" I just didn't see it until there was a report.

Now weren't we supposed to be talking about Nintendo's next console? Personally I have found that the only thing I like about the Wii is the VC, maybe I am getting too old to play games or maybe I am losing interest I don't know. But right now I don't see myself getting too excited for the next console like I did for "Revolution"
