Title: Guitar Hero: On Tour Unveiled
Post by: Flames_of_chaos on March 19, 2008, 02:37:52 PM
 Trailer and source (http://www.videogameszone.de/?article_id=636582&page=2&mag=23)

The special controller that connects to the GBA port and wraps around the DS Lite (http://www.videogameszone.de/?menu=browser&article_id=636582&image_id=794016&mag=23)

Quote
The game is played with one hand in the guitar grip, holding the DS sideways - Hotel Dusk- and Kawashima-Style. The non-touchscreen shows the usual GH-"music-highway” with the indicators for the button-presses. Strumming is done with a pick (seems like it comes bundled) on the touchscreen. The gameplay itself seems absolutely the same as previous Guitar Hero iterations. You perform perfect note-strings, gain multipliers, gain star power, use star power and feel pretty damn cool.

It doesn't look nearly as retarded as I thought it would.  Still, I just don't see the point.

I bet it's hard to properly strum on the touch screen while pressing buttons and trying to see the upcoming notes.

i wonder how you avoid accidentally closing the damn thing when your Hand-Solo action gets intense.

You know I am curious about this...I think it could be really cool...and it could really suck.

It really depends on how much thought they put into the game...and so far I think it is fair to say it could go either way, but it is at least leaning to much cooler than anyone could have imagined.

Did you guys see the trailer at all? Its pretty self explanitory you slide you hand through the little hand strap and use four fingers on the four buttons sort of like a 4 button piano accordion. And you strum with a stylus shaped like a guitar pick. The only retarded thing I saw was that sometimes your virtual guitar goes on fire and you have to blow the fire out with the microphone.

Use of DS microphone = instant fail.

The only other thing that fails is the battle mode is similar to GHIII which leaves a sour taste and apparently the burning guitar is only in the battle mode. I wonder if you yell into the mic to activate starpower.

I seem to remember reading that you use it to activate star power, also a major problem for me.

Okay, see, it's this kind of potential that prods me to own a DS instead of a PSP.  Well, that and slavish Nintendo devotion.  But mostly, it's all about the imagination and untapped things.

More Guitar Hero:DS preview: http://checkoutblog.com/entries/2008/3/21/guitar_hero_on_tour_for_the_nintendo_ds.aspx

My main question is - will the guitar accessory fit into a normal DS?

I must be the only person in the world who didn't like Guitar Hero. I thought Rock Band was fun for a couple minutes, cuz I'm a drummer, but the demo drums at Best Buy were broken and it wasn't very fun for too long. Still this looks interesting...Wonder how they intend to release bonus song packs and stuff for it though.

Laughing so hard.

Also Mario earns the full fist by referring to the old DS as DS Hevy. DS Phat sounds stupid and retarded.

Hate it all day long if you want, it's a music game other than EBA on the go.  Will buy first day pending the review of it's songlist.

It's not a music game, it's a rhythm game. Jam Sessions and Electroplankton are music games.

Weird thing... my estranged? wife just finished the French translation for the case of the game. She got it through an agency that does a lot of video game stuff. Kinda cool.

Oh man, there will be a Nintendo official DS Lite plus Guitar Hero bundle coming out this summer alongside the stand alone title.    DS just sold another 5 million units.

Bad news!  Guitar Hero: On Tour came in the other day.  I opened one up in an attempt to rig it up to our display DS (it didn't work)... It appears that there's no DS game case included in the big box. :(

Lame.  I'm sure the wonderful folks at TheCoverProject (http://www.thecoverproject.net) will come up with something. :)

So its the guitar grip on one part of the box and the game card + manual and other inserts in the other side of the box?

I find it highly amusing there there's an admin at that site who doesn't have Photoshop.

Yeah, but the Cover Project doesn't do much else besides make covers using Photoshop.  It would be like having an NWR mod who didn't play video games (*cough Rize cough*).

But TCP doesn't make money and the folks there are all volunteers.  And there are other programs to use to make covers besides expensive Photoshop.  I wouldn't blow that kind of money if I didn't have to either...

I'm sure if you want to donate the money to Doom to buy Photoshop, he would take you up on the offer. ;)

You don't really need photoshop for that kind of thing after all there is always GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/)

So where does one buy an empty DS game case? (in Europe...)
Title: Re: Guitar Hero: On Tour Unveiled
Post by: NWR_insanolord on June 24, 2008, 10:17:46 PM
I'd assume Nintendo of Europe has an online store like NoA's and it would be in the DS section under parts and accessories if it were organized the same way as the American one. Knowing NoE, though, everything will probably be alphabetical but the letters will be in the wrong order.
Title: Re: Guitar Hero: On Tour Unveiled
Post by: Ghisy on June 25, 2008, 05:13:34 PM
I've checked and there's no European store on NOE's website.
Meh, it sucks to be in Europe, as usual...

There's probably nothing stopping you from going to NoE's site. You may be able to get there by going to nintendo.com and using the region selector.

Ghisy, does the european site have one of those co.whatever codes? If so, try http://store.nintendo.co.whatever.

It turns out there's no European store at all.
But someone I know from another forum (who works at a games' retailer) will send me a DS game case for free! :o)

Any impressions of On Tour?  I've played it for about half an hour and... ewwww.  The graphics are very impressive, but the strumming recognition is horrendous.

The only problem I had with the strumming is when the notes are bunched up together especially on fast songs. Thats why for me it sucks playing on Hard or Expert mode.

HARD MODE IS HARD

If you ever get to try expert mode all you will barely notice a difference between the hard mode, just more notes bunched up together.

I just got On Tour and I've been playing it off and on (Space Invaders Extreme currently owns my soul). I'm kind of at odds about the game. My fingers are fairly meaty, so the Guitar Grip is anything but comfortable. Having to keep my wrist bent is not fun, either. Strumming recognition is spotty. I'm not sure why Star Power activates automatically (seems to, anyway). Having to listen to "All Star" brought me to tears.

On the other hand, there is some very sophisticated tech in this game. The graphics are amazing considering the hardware, the fact that the Guitar Grip WORKS and works WELL is awesome. My meaty paws are my own damn fault, not the game's. It's not like they included my clubbed fingers in their focus groups.

I'm having trouble with the Lefty Flip. I have to play it left-handed, I'm sorry, butu I'm a lefty. Thus, it's very easy for me to get the buttons confused with their onscreen avatars. Far too often, I press Green when I'm supposed to be pressing Blue. Maybe I should just play righty...

So I have mixed feelings thus far. I appreciate the concept and technology involved, but actually playing the game is hit or miss.

Just got this... the strumming has been fine as long as I only strum in one direction, but I haven't figured out how to get alt-strumming to work yet, which makes some songs pretty much impossible to keep a multiplier in.  I'm only two tiers in (on hard), but I'm surprised at how strum-heavy the songs have been so far, which is kind of unfortunate because strumming is definitely the weak link of the game (besides the song selection).  Hopefully I'll get the hang of it eventually.

Haven't had any problems with holding the thing uncomfortably or with it coming unplugged, but then again I haven't been playing for that long.  (I'm using a DS Hevy, for what it's worth.)

So, uh, I saw that kickass On Tour insert at the cover site (see page 2), but there was no way to download the full thing. That I can find.

Does anybody have it, or will I have to make my own version? Because I can't.

The guitar grip comes off easily if you have to reposition your hand especially if the strap is on.
