Title: New forums, again!
Post by: MegaByte on March 18, 2008, 10:22:16 PM
I've upgraded SMF, adding a bunch of features, many of which will be transparent to the average user.

In particular, people will be interested to know that you can now choose number of posts per page under Profile > Look and Layout.

Search should work better too.

I still need to go back and fix up the logos and ads, but otherwise let me know if you run into trouble.

the Wii Friend Code on the profile seems interesting...

Not that I care, but I can't see my email address on my profile like I used to be able to.  But again I don't care anyway.

Thank you Aaron.  You rock face.

I'm not seeing points anymore and spoiler text isn't spoilering

edit: maybe the spoiler thing was a temporary problem. EITHER WAY I WANT TO TAKE AWAY SOME POINTS SOON

I CONCLUDE THE POINTS ERA AS THE ONLY NON-ADMIN STAFF WITH A POSITIVE SCORE!

As did I.

Crimm doesn't even notice our existence.  :(

"NON-ADMIN STAFF"

I think they were all sniping each other and I just sat in in the funhouse.

Points proved this: NWR Staff hates each other.

I swear to God you ret-conned in that "Staff".

I turned off points because they weren't doing much.  They can be turned back on easily.  There's a new warning system where you really don't want to get points because you'll gain fun status effects like MUTE.

Let me know if this is a too douche of an irritation, it probably is, but I'm a web developer too.  The space above and below online/offline status of a user in each post, as well as below the post count annoys me.  Sorry. :P  I tried other themes and doesn't go away.

Thank you!

So how many warnings would I have to issue to shut the funhouse up?

It annoys me too.  The problem is that it's hard-coded rather than part of a theme.  Last go-round I injected some CSS to patch it temporarily.  This time, I'll go ahead and edit the code.

I'm pretty sure points gave benefits. I banned patchkid once.

I have a couple of very minor nit-picks/suggestions related to forum profiles.  (So minor in fact, I won't take offense if you tell me to piss off.)

1)  Is it possible not to display fields that aren't filled in?  Almost no one uses the ICQ, AIM, MSN and YIM fields (most just use one, if any).  Same with the Friend Code, XBL, PSN ID, etc.

2)  Any chance of getting entry fields for popular Wii/DS games (Brawl, Mario Kart, etc)?  It would be handy to have those available rather than digging through FC threads.  If you don't want to give people the ability to list dozens of games in their profile, it might make sense to have either a drop down box or a write-your-own-category option so we just pick the games we're currently playing.

I see someone went and braved the first public release of the SMF 2.0 Beta.  :D  Good stuff.  I like the new moderation panel it has. :)

I have a question, if I fill in the fields in my profile for my Wii Friend Code, where does it show up? I have been toying with the idea of filling it in but I wanted to now if it would actually be visible to anyone else or not.

It appears at the bottom of your profile (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=7851), Mr. 0226 4268 3065 5157.

Whenever I post a reply I get an error message that says Database Error:  Please try again. If you come back to this error screen, report the error to an administrator.  The post goes through, but I thought I'd pass the info along.  I generally only post through the Quick Reply box, so I'm not sure if the problem is limited to there.

I got the same error when previewing before posting.  I also get it when I try to view someone's stats.
