You guys live 3,000 miles apart (as the car drives).  Perhaps you need to pick a closer smash buddy until the servers die down a bit.

thatguy and I had relatively lag free matches with each other today. Distance isn't as great a factor as it seems.

I'm sure he LOVES the game, but admitting it would ruin his faux troller reputation and would expose him for the poser that he is. So avoiding matches is a must...

After I get back from work, I'll be watching Live Free or Die Hard with my roomie cuz he got it from Netflix and we need to speed up the movie chain.

Afterwards, I should have some game time if it doesn't take 2 hours to add the rest of the HULA HOOPS.
