Title: Wii Menu Update v3.2 Now Available
Post by: NWR_Lindy on February 25, 2008, 05:13:48 PM
Move along, nothing to see here.

If your Wii is glowing tonight, it's because Nintendo has released Wii Menu version 3.2.

Compared to the last Wii Menu revision (which updated the Check Mii Out Channel), this update apparently doesn't do much at all beyond upgrading your Wii to version 3.2U.  According to Nintendo's website, it only makes back-end tweaks to "improve system performance".  The Wii console's update message claims that the Disc Channel will now be able to display a scrolling message notifying you of a required update if a game needs to install one.

Hopefully this minor update is a sign of bigger things to come!

This would have been nice to have a few months ago, I almost returned my copy of Super Mario Galaxy when I put it in and the game logo didn't show up on the Disc Channel because I thought it was defective but it turned out it only needed to update my Wii.

I wonder if it has anything to do with recent developments (http://games.slashdot.org/games/08/02/25/1940203.shtml)...

My article was so much better :(

Just kidding.  But yes, there has been some early speculation that it is related to the Twilight Princess exploit.

I've heard that that's been checked out and the exploit still works.  I just can't remember where I've heard it at.

Probably has to do with Smash Bros. coming out.

I don't really see how a firmware update could fix a buffer overflow problem in a specific game, but perhaps I'm not thinking creatively enough. I mean, the bug is in the game assuming the horse's name, read from the save file, is valid (as in, less than X characters) instead of checking the validity of a save file. ...Wii games aren't designed with patches in mind.

I'm thinking that Nintendo is going to stop the homebrew. Knowing Nintendo, they are going to do that somehow.

What about GameCube info popping up in the Disk channel.  I mean come on, it's such an easy fix to have the Wii do it if the GameCube could do it.

So when does the external hard drive support come in, version 15.0 update?

Or maybe logging gamecube play time.  Even if it doesn't say the title of the game(which the system does know)

Or how about GameCube games automatically loading when put into a console that's turned off? It's kind of a hassle to get the Wii remote out JUST to start up a GameCube game.

QFT. I have a wireless sensor bar so it's an even BIGGER hassle for me.

Do you have a Classic Controller? If so, you should plug it into the remote and use the analog stick to move the cursor in those circumstances so you don't need the sensor bar.

You can use the classic controller's stick to move the Wii menu cursor?  Why can't you use a 'Cube controller like that? D:

Cuz Nintendo is an "AND" company.

AND Nintendo doesn't want you to use old failure technology.
