Title: Offical Wii Sales Thread
Post by: Luigi Dude on February 15, 2008, 04:20:59 AM
I'm surprised no ones made this yet.  Where else would we go crazy over numbers?

Well NPD data for January just came out, Wii is still number one but in a surprise the PS3 came in second.

PS3 - 269K
Xbox 360 - 230K

The PS3 came in second and came within 5,000 of the Wii? Does this mean the analysts aren't brain dead morons? I wonder how many sales were for gaming and how many people bought it just because Blu-ray has pulled ahead and the PS3 is the best and only upgradeable Blu-ray player. Sony's tactic of not caring about games and putting all their eggs in the Blu-ray basket may have paid off, and if so that is very bad for the industry.

Actually, Wii sales are down because Japan got the bulk of the systems for January I think.  With Brawl coming out, less systems went to other territories.

Are No More Heroes and Endless Ocean on this cycle?

The original post used to say that No More Heroes was there and it got over 100,000 sales, but it seems to have been removed for some reason.

according to GAF, NMH sold around 100K copies (other posters besides the OP confirmed it, apparently)

Actually I removed it because according to Neo GAF, the source that said No More Heroes sold over 100,000 ended up being false.

So right now I'm waiting until it's confirmed by a truly reliable source before I put it back in my post.

Wii sales seem way low, must be the extra systems going to Japan. Next month's, and March's sales should be much more reasonable.

I think the bigger surprise is that the 360 placed last, behind the PS2, DS and PSP as well.

That was because Microsoft undershipped, which probably means they are trying to phase out the holiday bundle or putting another SKU in.

Both Wii and 360 were scarce in January.  PS3 (almost) won by default.

Yeah, it's very annoying that I can't find 360s around.  I just bought a new Pro to replace my old decrepit Core system, and I had to go on an epic quest spanning the entire city.  I've never seen a console generation like this one.  I never remember systems being hard to find by any means, it seemed like they were always available.  It's nigh impossible to get your hands on a Wii, 360s are touch and go, and PS3, well let's not go there (as it blows my argument).

There's plenty of 360s in Sacramento.

Mountains of them.
