Title: Stage Builder Thread!
Post by: that Baby guy on February 05, 2008, 08:44:11 PM
Yeah! The stage builder! It's awesome! I'll post some pics tomorrow, probably, just bug me about it...but...I made a stage!
It's set in the sky/mountainous/ruins motif, and it's probably the most awesome stage ever. You've seen the Mother 3 stage, right? Well, it's about that size, but the differences include a central battle area, several moving platforms, and springs at the bottom, to save yourself from falling off. Like I said, I'll post some pictures, and maybe even video tomorrow, but the stage builder is a much better feature than I thought it would initially be.
Of course, now I need to figure out if there's anything unlockable for it, but I haven't found any new pieces yet.

Question: is it possible to play stage builder stages online at all? I thought I heard somewhere you couldn't, but I don't know if that only applies to random matches and not friend matches or what...

There's no way to use lava/acid or water at the bottom of the stage, is there?

There's no acid that I saw, and I'm not sure about playing online. I haven't been able to yet, but I think you may be able to using the "With Friends."
Alright, allow me 30 minutes, I've got to open up a camera I got for Christmas but haven't used yet, then I'll have it up. It may take more than 30 minutes...
Edit: And already, it's been an hour. The camera battery has been charging for the last 45 minutes, but I'm keeping my eye on it. When it's done, I'll take a few pictures and link to them here, but for now, I have no idea how much longer this will take.

Boo. I want to make Bowser's Castle. How can I do that without lava? It just won't be the same

Ok, I'm finally uploading the pictures, it took me a while to realize my computer doesn't recognize HCSD, so I had to bring them in from the camera. I'll update this post to the links to the pictures as they upload.
FYI, there are eleven pictures, the stage is titled "Way Past Cool" and the description is "Ultimate Stageform." The music that plays is Sonic Boom.

The best custom stage ever has 1 floating platform large enough for only 1 player to stand on.

Wow... just... wow. I want to play that stage now... ;_;
Really great to see how creative a lot of these custom levels have been.
So how long did it take to make the stage thatguy?

Well, I went and made the majority of it in one swing, perhaps ten or twenty minutes, and instead of springs, there were tiny ladders at every single spot on the bottom. That didn't work out so well, so I tweaked things. Then I realized the springs at the side weren't great because tether attacks couldn't recover using them. Then I decided the top was too empty, so I added the platforms there.
It was simple, but in order to make sure it played alright, I basically had to test it out.
Oh, and those yellowish platforms are moving platforms. The ones at the top move left and right, while the ones at the lower sides move up and down.

Dear God those stages would make the Ice Climber stage in Melee look like popsicles. I think if I played those stages, every vulgar word I know would be used at least 3 times.
