NO MORE HEROES SHIPS TO RETAILERS          Players Will Soon be Able to Put Themselves in the Shoes of Anti-Hero Travis Touchdown

San Francisco – January 22, 2008 – Today, Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, announced today that No More Heroes™, the highly anticipated action game exclusively for the Wii™ home video game system from Nintendo, has shipped to store shelves.

Developed by Grasshopper Manufacture under the direction of famed video game creator Goichi Suda (Suda 51), No More Heroes tells the story of Travis Touchdown, an otaku living in the fictional town of Santa Destroy, California. After an unexpected turn of events, Travis finds himself with a new job, at the bottom of the United Assassins Association (UAA). Ranked the 11th best assassin in the world, Travis will have to prove himself worthy and defeat 10 other killers – all with deep and quirky stories of their own – to make his way to the top of the assassin’s league.

No More Heroes realizes the dream of Wii players everywhere; as they wield the Wii Remote™ to not only control Travis’ beam katana but also perform spectacular wrestling moves, all during the course of his bloody journey to become number one.

Featuring avant-garde graphics, a unique storyline and a bizarre band of characters that could only come from the creative mind of Suda 51, No More Heroes enters players into a stylized world filled with edgy gameplay, one unlike anything else on the Wii.

No More Heroes is rated “M” for Mature by the ESRB and has a MSRP of $49.99.

Ubi has been advertising the HELL out of this game.

I hope it does well...

I can't go to Gamefaqs, IGN, etc. without seeing it EVERYWHERE.

So is it actually like, RELEASED today? As in, when I go to work at Gamestop tonight, can I buy it after my shift is over?

I went looking for it earlier today and I couldn't find it, I was told it was shipping today as in we'll be able to buy it tomorrow. I wouldn't be surprised if some random places have it today though, so be on the look out!

Release Dates, Ship Dates, Street Dates... BAH. I almost NEVER find a game on its actual release date at a Gamestop.

That makes me angry. Why would they tell us, the consumer, the shipping date? The hell do we care?

Now I need to make a goddamn special trip to Gamestop tomorrow to get it instead of just buying it tonight after my shift is over. Lame.

Not just that. Some stores even get them AFTER the ship date. Ship dates are just when it supposedly leaves the publisher, as far as I know. Some stores get them a day after, some two days after, some have them a week early, some get the boxes and don't bother to open them...

because the time it takes to drive the game on a druck from the distributer to the stores and then for the stores to put it on the shelves is variable

Might as well wait for tomorrow. I got lucky getting Metroid Prime 3 the day it shipped, but haven't gotten any luck with any other title since.

Good read Kairon. Here are some interesting points:

publishers can delay games because they've already made enough loot and want to save some ammo in their cannon. Sly, but true.

This sounds awfully familiar...

Unlike the movie industry, delayed game releases do not always mean lost sales.

I dunno. AAA titles with a strong marketing arm/strong fanbasewill sell no matter what the time of year, but other titles that don't get that push...

Today I went to my local videogame store quite expectant to buy me a copy of No More Heroes, and One Piece Unlimited Adventure, yet the clerk tells me it won't come out until February, so I just walked out the store because I wasn't about to bother him from his reading and make him check on the system to confirm such statement.

*calls one of the other stores*

So it's out on February the 1st... damn you all to hell.

I picked it up today at Best Buy.  They had to check the back, because it wasn't even on the floor when I went, which was after 5:00 EST.

The first boss is hilarious for one reason: The main character basically talks through the entire fight, like how anime characters think through entire fights.  I started playing, tried listening, and about three or four minutes later, he was still going.

It's great.

Hey, that's not too bad of a delay for Europe then. And don't you guys have actual advertising for this game?
