I thought it was awesome.  I think I'll call it a success when everyone gives and gets their game.  But I had fun and would do it again.

Good luck to those that don't have their gift yet.

I'm happy. Landtsalker is pretty cool!

I'm more than happy. I frankly didn't expect to get an N64 game as a gift! And its really quite awesome.

As for the event it could've been planned earlier, but since Nintendo unveiled the feature in mid December its really no one's fault.

I would gladly do it again. I had fun doing it and it made me happy.

Well I don't believe I have received mine so I cannot comment. Though I think vudu enjoyed his.

Is there anyone who regrets not holding out till this Monday update? Blades of Steel is pretty awesome... but I don't regret it. Landstalker = win.

Is Blades of Steel that hockey game where you have fights?

Yes. YES.

I liked it, I would have wished I could have forked out something nicer than a $6 game to give.  I was more worried about giving a gift someone wouldn't like

You could always send follow-up gifts later to assuage your guilt! ^_^

The gift that I got
was the gift that sent,
so not only was I happy,
so was the other recipient.

BLADES OF STEEL IS OUT?!?!?!?

That's the game, not ice hockey, I love. It was that game I played the first time I was wasted.

I wonder if this could possibly be expanded to birthdays where the gift giver is randomly drawn from a pool. If not, hey it was just an idea.
Title: RE: Was Secret Santa a success?
Post by: Ceric on December 26, 2007, 01:09:04 AM
I have to say that I wish we would have decided to do the sending the week before or after Christmas and I wish Nintendo would get off there high horse and let you do inter-regional gifting.  I understand if the game wasn't released in that region but you should be able to gift anything that was since your essentially just getting on to download it not sending the actual game file.

I'm not sure if it was a success yet.  My person hasn't said if he liked it or not but I'm not sure if he's gotten it yet.  We will see.  Count me in for next year and if a birthday pool is done I wouldn't mind participating as long as you can't get drawn more then once in a given year, unless special circumstances.

I too was thinking the same thing. The reason I didn't suggest it was because since there's always at least one birthday per month people wouldn't be willing to buy a game each time someone had a birthday.

Hey Ceric, thanks for ComixZone! I hadn't heard about it until it came out on the VC, and it looks like a cool game. I'm glad it's something I wasn't expecting - hopefully it's good.

Was a success for me, just like the one I was in over at CAG.  I enjoyed my gift and know my recipient did as well.  No real hassles on my end, despite my vacationing and problems with having a system 100% full of names.

I do agree the regional thing is crap and there really ought to be a way around it.

CAG discussed birthdays as well, and the consensus was that it would be hard to get everyone to drop the points (and thus money) on other people every month, as well as diluting the nature of the gift-giving's specialness/rarity.

Anyway, thanks again to Crimm for heading it up, and thanks to everyone for making it work!  Happy holidays all!

Thanks to Me for being the first to bring it up on these forums!
When i thought of bringing up the idea I wanted to be host to it but i knew with my work schedule i would do a horrible job. I even had this crazy though of surprising everyone who participated a gift even if i wasnt their secret santa.

time and budget constrictions made me think otherwise. maybe next year though!

oh and did everyone recieve their present???

I just got around to playing Devil's Crush, the game vudu sent me (thanks again for that). It was on my (long) list of VC games to look into but not something I'd have been likely to buy any time soon. I must say it's great. This is the perfect situation for Secret Santa, I got a game I like and I wouldn't have bought myself. I think this worked spectacularly, especially considering that we organized the whole thing in about a week (by necessity). I like the idea of birthday gifts, it'll require a bit more coordination but I think it can and should be done.

Agree and I think it should be a Social Forum Po-ba person, which was Crimm if memory serves.

I dunno, stuff like birthdays we'll have to keep up year round and people will forget or get upset or what not... once a year is fine. If someone has a birthday, just make a thread and people will send you stuff anyways out of the blue. There's no need to regulate that.

Actually, I haven't even had a chance to play it yet.    I went on vacation the day after you sent it to me and I just got back last night.  Now I need to hurry up and beat Psychonauts before GameTap takes it off the free list on Dec 31.  But I promise to play as soon as I can!

You have no idea how hard it was to shop for you.  You had the second longest list of games you already own and you only named one game that you might want and even then you didn't sound too keen on it.

Sorry Golden I am going to ruin the surprise and just tell you that I am your secret Santa.  I personally traveled 3 hours back up to my apartment to make sure your gift was sent and your name is still gray.  I double checked the thread to make sure I had the correct friend code and its fine.  So one of the 3 reasons could of happened:

1.  You did not input my roomies wii friend code
2.  We are in different regions and need to take care of that.
3. Perhaps you put it in wrong.

There is still some surprise left in the game considering you have no clue what I have for you.  Contact me soon so I can send the darn gift ok?

~!

I'm sorry I made it hard for you. I didn't include a list of things I wanted because I wanted a surprise, something I wouldn't have thought of. It may have been hard but you were very successful, I love the game. As for the game I did mention, Galaga '90, a friend got it for me and I love that too.

No problem I got Mystical Ninja from Kairon which is totally awesome.  I have only played the 2 N64 games so this was a new experience.  I got to play a little bit of the game before bed last night and man I didnt realize most of the stuff I loved from the N64 games came heavily from this version ^-^~!  Thanks Kairon~!

i havent played the games i've been gifted yet

well, i tried starfox 64 to see which controller played better (GC or CC.. i think GC is more comfortable) but i only played until the second stage. i should get some quality time with it later tonight.. then again my gf's here and we stayed up playing Trauma Center: SO, Excite Truck and Donkey Conga (1) and a little bit of Pheonix Wright: Ace, and some Dementium: The ward as well.. all of which i bought used at gamestop with this "buy 2 get 1 free" deal...  awesome

Is Mystical Ninja starring Goemon? and if so, is it as funny and entertaining as as the N64 game starring Goemon(which I believe was Mystical Ninja 64)? and if so, why didn't I know it was released on VC?
and just so you guys know my Birthday is February 19th :wink:

i too would like to know the answer to BnM's question.

The first and only Mystical Ninja game i ever played was the N64 (although i'd heard of mystical ninja games before) and i thought it was awesome and wanted to check out the earlier games to see if they were as humerous.

The parts that stood out themost to me were those gianta mechanaloid fights with the cheesy anime-like music and lyrics. i would replay those battles over and over and over and over...

LOL ya here is that video and song "Impact".

And the hilarous alternative ending.

I really can't wait for those to come on VC.

I finally got a chance to sit down and play my present from GoldenPhoenix--Baseball Stars 2 for NeoGeo.  While sports games generally aren't my thing,  I must admit I like it quite a bit.  The game is a lot of fun, even against the CPU.  It's an arcade game, so it's very fast-paced.  And since I don't give a damn about stat-tracking or any of that nonsense I don't miss it at all.  I enjoy it most of all because I can sit down, play a couple of innings and then move on to something else.  It's perfect for when I have ten minutes to kill.  Thanks, GP!

Games like this are the reason why Secret Santa rocks.  Baseball Stars 2 is a game I never would have purchased for myself but it's tons of fun and I'm glad I own it.  We should do this again sometime.  SECRET EASTER BUNNY

I guess this thread will be ok to mention this. I really wanted to participate but I thought I didn't have access to wii points since here I can't buy those wii point cards and I thought that was going to be the method to interchange gifts. However I do have access to credit card and I have bought VC games. What I didn't know at the time was that the new channel had the chance to just give my own points to someone else as a gift, a shame, I would have loved to give something, I still have to update though, I don't want to give up mp3 playback yet! I honestly never use it I didn't even know it was there!.

I do like the birthday idea a lot. I'm not saying that because my birthday is next friday or anything though.
