WOW! This is even more amazing and groundbreaking than the Wii itself being revealed, holy crap. This dude is a genius. The best part is that this is totally POSSIBLE! This guy should be a game developer, he must be so frustrated at what most third parties are doing with the Wii. Again, wow.

I know! I wonder if the Wii itself can actually be used for this. I *assume* he's using his PC for the target "video" (not sure what else to call it). Is the Wii powerful enough for this?

He just figured out what Nintendo has planned for the major innovation of Wii 2.

He is using a PC to make the programs and run them otherwise he'd need a Wii dev kit or something like that. Wii would easily be powerful enough for this. And yeah this could have been Nintendos next peripheral planned for after Wii Fit. Making the games for it would be the hardest part.
I want to give it a go, but i'm already confused, how exactly does the Wii remote connect to the PC via bluetooth? Do you just buy a generic Bluetooth dongle thingy and then follow the steps? It actually seems fairly simple for the most part.

Yeah, supposedly, you can connect the Wii Remote to your PC with a bluetooth adapter, but I've never managed to make it work...

Nintendo needs to hire this guy before someone else does.
Have you seen his touchscreen powerpoint presentation wiimote project? that was was pretty cool too, but not as cool as this one.
Virtua Cop/Time Crisis/House of the Dead/Umbrella Chronicles Wii Online does come to mind though when thinking of existing games that might benefit from this project.

I can't even get my computer to recognize my Bluetooth adapter.

I built the Wii white board he came up with the other week. Very cool. (By built, I mean I made the IR pen) As soon as I get back to work, I'm so doing this as well. (Only my work laptop has bluetooth )
I really hope Nintendo hires him, or at least puts out glasses and a Wii Remote holder with credit given to him. (or at least some kind of acknowledgment if they've already developed it)

Imagine a shooting game where ducking behind your couch actually means something, then while you're there you can view your DS (via connectivity) and see a map of whats going on, and also yell into the DS mic to a possible teammate over Wifi and plan an ambush strategy.
Could work really well for a stealth game too. Or imagine using two Wii Remotes as hands to brush away trees while searching for some rare Pokemon in a dense jungle.
Unclebob: Try updating your USB Hardware drivers.

Isn't that the same guy who uses the Wiimote to implement a multitouch interface?
As for the camera function, I guess the eyetoy is actually better suited for this.

No, the eyetoy can't be discriminate enough for this, I bet. Sony can try, but I but it wouldn't be. Especially if there were too many people in the room.
Now I'm upset that Nintendo didn't announce plans for this. I hope they had the plans, though, just because it shows that they are innovative if they do.

This reminds me of some Nintendo patent depicting different perspectives within a box or something like that. It was being discussed back when the Revolution was still a mystery, and some silly posters were claiming that it was going to use holograms. I myself didn't understand the concept depicted, but this video simply reminds me of it.

This is incredibly awesome.
Like one of the comments said the guy better buy a patent for this or something. ANYONE, Nintendo included, could see this and come up with their version of it.

Nintendo could easily do this TOMORROW. All they need to sell is head mounted infrared leds (that could probably be manufactured for under 10 bucks).
Think of how much cooler Link's Crossbow training would have been with this. The only thing I think that would hold Nintendo back is that it complicates the Wii a bit, and we all know how they feel about that.

I was thinking they could release a Sensor Bar 2.0 - throw the IR LEDs from the current sensor bar with some, you know, sensors... like what the Wii Remote has. It could connect to the Wii via one of the 7 Bluetooth connections (i.e.: one of the extra three connections). Then, combine that with the LED Safety Goggles or some other head mounted device - bamn!

Hell yes. Crossbow training is great by itself but combined with this technology is should be amazing!

Is it this one? Or was it another one? I too remember all sorts of crazy rumors and speculations based on patents...

hmm, can you change the title of this topic? it's unfunny and misleading. as soon as i saw "WoW" and "Powerleveling" I just ignored it, thinking it was spam.

Seen a version of this that is actually even cooler. You have polarized 3D head-tracking glasses and stand inside a huge open ended cube. 3D images are projected to your front, left, right, (and I think above).
Of course that system costs a heck of a lot more than a Wii plus a little extra hardware.
