Title: End of an era...
Post by: UncleBob on December 20, 2007, 11:43:41 AM
We sold our last Game Boy title at my store today.  Mario Tennis: Power Tour for $30.  Unless we get something returned after Christmas or something, we're done with Game Boy Games...

We still have something like 15 Game Boy micros, unfortunately...

Somebody paid $30 for that?  Well it is a 10/10 game...

The Wal Marts around here all have quite a few GBA games in stock. And the Mario Tennis games on the Cube and the GBA both sucked, the power shots ruined the games. Mario Tennis on the GBC, though, is still one of my favorite games.

I would buy a Game Boy Micro off of you if I lived close by.

Weird I thought GB Micros were really rare and had a really small shipment. I wouldn't mind grabbing a cheap one if I ever saw one.

Sounds like someone needs a hug. . .

You can't turn them off in the main single-player mode in either game, which isn't as bad for the Cube one that's main purpose is multiplayer, but it killed the GBA one in the RPG mode which is the reason I love the handheld Mario Golf and Tennis games.

There is still a chance Nintendo will name their next handheld after the Gameboy line. I know the DS is insanely popular, but it's name isn't really that interesting. I mean, what were they thinking when they gave it an abbreviation meaning "Dual Screens"? That was weak, in my opinion.

So I hope the Gameboy era isn't really over and that we'll see a new one in a few years...

Nintendo is not going to abandon a name that is well known and associated with what is most likely going to end up as the best selling game system of all time and go back to a name that may have childish connotations with a lot of their expanded "Blue Ocean" market.

The Nintendo DS has some serious blue ocean cachet, I think. I think it's safe for Nintendo to let the Gameboy moniker rest for a bit.

But without another Game Boy portable, what will the clever publishers that put out girl focused games do? Their hilarious creativity always meant they'd slap a 'girl' over the Boy part of the Game Boy logo on the box!

Tee hee! Now girls will know the new Barbie game is just for them!

Wait, I suppose they could cross out 'DS' and put 'PMS' on the box. Almost sounds the same.
