Title: Rise of the Video Game

I have been watching these on the Discovery Channel over the past few weeks, and I'm not entirely happy with them. The title is pretty misleading. I envisioned the series covering the fairly interesting history of gaming starting with the Magnavox Odyssey and going all the way up to the Wii. However the second and third episodes seem to be focusing on the progression of a particular genre of game or concept of gaming rather than gaming as a whole. I think it's great that gaming is finally getting some mainstream recognition, but it would be better if the book The Ultimate History of Video Games written by Steven Kent was turned into a series with some new content added to cover the latest in gaming.

yeah i only saw one of the episodes, the second i believe... it was dissapointing.

I love that book. Took me four days to read through it a few years ago. It's awesome.

Agreed. I also read it about 2 or 3 years ago and man was it awesome. I included a link to it's amazon listing for a reason

So the last episode of this airs tonight at 8pm (at least here on the East Coast). The last episode was actually pretty decent, however the one preceding that was downright awful (all about US Army + Videogames). I'm hoping this series ends on a high note, but I'm certainly not counting on it. The series on the whole was not what I was expecting and was a pretty big letdown for me.
