Title: PAIN(PSN game) a semi-disappointment worth 10 dollars
Post by: Flames_of_chaos on November 30, 2007, 05:48:42 PM
Don't get me wrong the game is awesome and fun BUT it seems unfinished, you pretty much get to play in only one level with some different modes such as a sandbox mode to try to get the most points(and to try to unlock aftermath mode), Mime Toss, Spank the Monkey for single player and for Local Multiplayer (no online multiplayer so far) Horse(you can change to spelling), Bowling (launching yourself into bowling pins or mimes), and explosive crates(try to link as many crate explosions in one launching).
My other main gripe is that in order to play Single and the multiplayer mode you have to beat a rather lengthy Crash Course which is a training mode, this also seems a DLC trap which made me sad especially since there are two more selectable character with a buy me sticker on them (.99 for each of them!) and I noticed a lot of in game advertising in it the most apparent ones are about the stupid Buzz! games. My big fear with this game is that Sony and the developers of this game is going to treat it like Q? treated Lumines Live!, make an expensive base pack and then spread on the booster packs!
Now that I went through the bad parts here are the good parts, its very very fun and hilarious the best way to gauge the humor think of it like Jackass except much more painful it also uses the Havok physics engine and rag doll physics. While it is disappointing that there is no online multiplayer, the local multiplayer if you can round up your friends the multiplayer is very fun and funny.
So in summary here are my pros and cons: (+ means pro, - means con) + A lot of the environment can be interacted with. + Very fun and funny + Sandbox environment leads to you exploring new ways of destroying and wrecking havock + Good multiplayer modes + Could have a good re-playable factor.
- In order to play the two main modes you have to deal with a training mode (crash course) - No online multiplayer (for now?) - Feels like a trap for microtransaction hell (considering that there is already microtransactions for it) - Only one stage playable - In the end it may feel like a demo that you have to pay in order to play it - Seems and feels unfinished from day one - Glitchy trophy system (sometimes you don't get the trophy or you get a trophy for the wrong/weird reason) - Goals are not clearly defined how to unlock harder modes
As of now if someone asked me what I would give this, I would give it a 6.5/10 while it is a lot of fun, the microtransactions, and the feel of it being unfinished really does hurt it.

You hit the nail right on the head with your review. Based on the content included I think it should have been a $4.99 game. I'm sure there will be more stages, characters and hopefully online play coming which will likely all cost money to download.
Really fun game, at least for a few hours.
7/10

Hey Ryan is it me or is the games scoring system really messed up since for some reason I can't get 1.5 million to unlock aftermath mode which is driving me crazy since I'm trying to do the things that would normally cause insane amounts of damage but the most I ever hit was 850K points.

Hey dude, that's better than me. I managed about 700k as a high score I think. I hope they release an update that allows "horse" to be played online. There's probably a bunch of 12 year olds out there we could learn how to get high scores from
