Title: Ok now what?
Post by: GoldenPhoenix on October 22, 2007, 05:59:50 PM
I hate to pull a gamefaqs but I bought a PSP Slim and have no idea what games to get. The only one I have is Star Wars which came with it. So any recommendations (I know I'm getting PowerStone 2!).

Oh, good. I was thinking about picking one up for Christmas, but the only thing I REALLY want for it is Portable Ops.

And Power Stone. Seriously I only know of 3 games that I want to get for it, Power Stone, Mega Man and Daxter (supposed to be great).

Not a Metal Gear fan I take it?
Did you buy the PSP just for the Vader on the back? I know they had a Daxter bundle as well.
Oh, and have you had any douchebags jump out from the bushes and harass you in elevators yet?

Great list Strell I will consider a few on there (Not a big MGS fan though). Forgot about Maverick Hunter, I'll have to pick that up too and of course CV.

The only PSP game worth buying isn't even on that list!
Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure is a decent enough ARPG Zelda clone with cute characters and some hilariously awkward voice-acting...
And stay far, FAR away from Loco Roco...It may seem cute but the gameplay is just down-right awful/boring...

The most popular game for the PSP is called homebrew.

LOL, agreed though.
My fiancee is supposed to be getting me one for Christmas, so the list of games I put together are as follows.
1: Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles 2: Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars 3: Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII 4: Daxter 5: Death, Jr. 6: Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions 7: Gitaroo Man Lives! 8: Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories 9: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories 10: LocoRoco 11: LocoRoco 2 12: Me & My Katamari 13: MediEvil Resurrection 14: Mega Man Powered Up 15: Naruto: Narutimate Hero Portable 16: PaRappa the Rapper 17: Power Stone Collection 18: Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters 19: Silent Hill: Origins 20: Sonic Rivals 21: Sonic Rivals 2 22: Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins 23: WTF
Not all of the games are released yet, but there seems to be some decent selection from the ones that are out already.

Plus, this one is cheap at Gamestop. 17.99 used if you can find it, 19.99 new.
I honestly barely play my PSP, so it's hard to keep up on the library.
Need to get a Slim anyway...

PSP has games? I thought it was only for playing SNES and N64 emulators.

If you barely play it, why do you need to get a slim?

Chozo: I barely play it primarily for two reasons. The first is that the controls are a joke, especially with the whole "the square button is off center and it feels like you'll break it if you press it there wrong way" thing. (Note: I think it is the square button....it's the "west" one.) Second is that my battery is officially dead, and I'm lucky to get any playtime at all out of it. (Sadly, this is now the case with my launch DS as well - it gets maybe 2-3 hours on a full charge these days.) I've heard the Slim helps alleviate both of those, both with the physical construction and improved battery life. I think I read somewhere that the system also has a small amount of RAM devoted entirely to loading game data, which seems like a smart thing on Sony's part.
IceCold: Ho ho! And indeed I am! I've a gift certificate that I debate using toward the purchase of a Slim. Either that or I'll buy a used one off a user on that site. Besides, selling my original means that I can upgrade for ....at the most, I'm thinking 40-50 bucks, all things considered, which is satisfying. Besides, I'm something of a technophile, so I don't mind getting the best version of something available (though I still lack a DSLite, but that's because I keep holding out for a Navy one, which doesn't look like it will happen until I ultimately make it over to Japan).
The PSP could have been really great. Could have been. All it has ended up being is a system with some really nice multimedia features and a few choice games that I'd rather play on the PS2.

Well heres some on top of my head:
I have the silver PSP with daxter, family guy UMD and a 1GB mem stick (same price as the star wars PSP bundle). Daxter is okay, if you hate the analog nub you can switch the movement controls to the Dpad and move the camera to the nub, the game is okay, not great but okay. Daxter is pretty much a platformer collect-a-thon. I think that this game gets a little boring though. Jeanne D'arc is a mustif you like fire emblem, FFT, advanced wars types of games. A lot of people get addicted to monster hunter freedom 2 and generally all the capcom games on PSP are good. Final Fantasy Tatics is good if you didn't play the PSone original. CV:Dracula X chronicles got decent scores but I suppose you should only buy it if you want to play rondo and have a source to play SOTN on the go without downloading it from your PS3's playstation store. Disgaea: Hour of Darkness even if it mostly a PS2 port I heard that the story is told through a different character's point of view. Gitaroo-Man Lives! is an awesome port with 1 more song, co-op and a juke box mode(not found in the PS2 version) considering that this is a niche game made by Inis (who made ouendan/EBA) I think its worth a play through.

I just bought a Felicia Blue PSP Slim in Tokyo. There's not a lot of games on it though: I found 8 games worth owning: Final Fantasy I/II Anniversary, DBZ Shin Budokai I/II, MGS: Portable Ops, Ridge Racer, Valkyrie Profile Lenneth, Castlevania Chronicles. Oh and maybe Lumines, which I also got in Japan for about 15 bucks. The best thing is being able to play PSOne games on it (I just tried FF VII and it works pretty well!). SNES emu is okay but far from perfect (slowdowns in games, graphical problems when mode 7 is used...). Overall, it's an ok system but I'm happy it was pretty cheap in Japan. It would never have bought it otherwise...
