Title: New Firmware Update! (3.1U)
Post by: IceCold on October 09, 2007, 08:20:59 PM
Apparently, the updates aren't working yet, but Internet Channel USB Keyboard support is in. Plus you can send clickable links to people through the Message Board.
More as it hits.

Don't forget to go to the Wii Shop and update both the Internet Channel and the Everybody Votes Channel.
I wonder if the update does more than mentioned.

I think this may be one reason I have not given out my Wii-mail code very much.

what was updated about the everybody votes channel?

Check the announcement on the front of the Wii Shop Channel. It mentions something about being able to view more statistics in nationwide results or something.
I tried my USB keyboard and it still only works when composing a message, not all over the Wii Menu. Similarly, the new Internet Channel only lets you type addresses and into forms, but there's no way to navigate the pages, aside from scrolling with arrows. Heck, you can't even press "Enter" to submit the URL you just typed--you have to go back to the Wii Remote.
It's a step though, and I'm sure forum-goers will appreciate it.

Its painful to use the wii-mote to type in long addresses or text stuff, so this is indeed good.
But is this all the update does? I imagine if there is anything else, it would probably be some bug fixes or further efforts to frustrate modders and so on, and they won't announce that.

Since you have to switch back to the Wiimote to click on links on the new page you're going to, I don't consider it a problem that pressing Enter doesn't go to the URL you typed. The update for the Everybody Votes channel was to allow you to use the keyboard when submitting new questions. Also, I believe ctrl+c/ctrl+v/ctrl+a will cut/paste/select all now I haven't tried it, so I may be wrong.

it was probley something to do with online play. Kinda like the Code of Conduct on Xbox Live that says you can't be a dick and screw around with the connection and cheat
....Just a guess though

Ha, I thought I would be the only person who would care about the licensing agreement being changed. I read through most of it and it all seemed pretty standard, but since I do not remember anything about the old one I could not tell you if anything had changed to begin with.

I read the first coupe paragraphs, then noticed how small the scroller was, and said "eff this" and just agreed to it.

yeah im always into reading the fine print. i read that whoooooooooooooooole thing the first time because you just never know. stuff like "nintendo has the right to discontue service without notification or reinbursment(sp?)" is stuff i wanna know. waht if i have like 5000000000000 wii points on there and they decide to just stop offering downloads all together? i cant really say "hey tahst not fair, give me my money back for all those wii points i bought!" since i agreed to their terms of service.

Did the internet tell you that Nintendo has the right to keep track of your cookies and activity on the Opera Browser?
EDIT: I guess it did now

Nintendo can also brick your system if you use any unauthorized modifications, or, and it did get kind of muddy right here, even unlicensed accessories, with your console.
At least that is how I read it.

I read through the agreement but couldn't figure out what was changed. Same old "if you sell your Wii you must delete all data" and "Nintendo can update any part of your system at any time they want without asking you" clauses. Though I noticed the NoE website terms include "You are required to make regular backups of your harddrive".

In what sense do you mean? Bluetooth keyboards don't work. A wireless usb keyboard will. USB ports don't discriminate between a usb wireless keyboard and a usb wired keyboard. The port doesn't even know the difference.

Seriously, I love this thing. It's pretty useless, really, considering I don't play any of the Phantasy Star games - although, it does work on the Action Reply that I use occasionally.
It'd be nice to be able to use it on my Wii.

They're probably not trying to brick any, it may just be asscovering in case someone bricks his console and decides to sue Nintendo.

Just to throw it out there; I too have a GCN Ascii Keyboard, and it was plenty helpful back when I actually played PSO.

Yeah - since it's mostly impossible and unrealistic to expect Nintendo to test their firmware updates on every type of Wii Mod, it's a "just in case" thing...

I should have played PSO or something...

Also I'd like to redact my statement: NOA and NCL are probably not trying to brick consoles on purpose, NOE most likely does. Just a hunch based on them breaking Freeloader compatibility all the time.

Yes UncleBob you should have played PSO. Nintendo should convince Sega to update the graphics some and ax the licensing fee and release a compilation of PSO 1-3 plus and add new things to all the episodes. Maybe even convince them to get rid of some of the duplicate bosses. I buy that in a hear beat and no one would hear from me again for about a month maybe 2.

Yes, one of my saves that I had 100 hours on the memory card started to go flaky and I tried to copy it over but, you can't copy those files. I was surprised. I really love to recover all that.

If they ever do re-release PSO Episode I, II, and III for the Wii they should add Episode 4/Blue Burst just to make it complete.
I have been wanting to try PSU but I have not had a system capable of running it, seeing as how it does run on the PS2, maybe we will get a version of that eventually.

So the web browser now makes an even more annoying noise when typing after this update.
Also, is anyone else noticing the āiā (info) icon from the menu tab even when hidden?

I agree with KDR. It's usually a bunch of mindless button mashing.
Title: RE: New Firmware Update! (3.1U)
Post by: KDR_11k on October 15, 2007, 10:38:09 PM
I don't think it's that mindless since you do have to keep dodging but it's very monotonous and repetitive.
Title: RE: New Firmware Update! (3.1U)
Post by: Ceric on October 16, 2007, 02:41:00 AM
*Shrug* I'll agree it can be mindless but I don't know what it is but I never get tired of it even though it is mostly just kill Monster rinse and repeat. It might be how they have a rythm(sp?) system with the attacks, the dodging, and the way to can very things up. Not to mention the low level strategy that is in there with the whole long-, short-, mid-range choices.

I didn't se a reason to. The update doesn't really do anything objectible to the two.

I asked because the Internet Channel update apparently wants to take up another 200-ish blocks of space... does the old one get deleted or domething after the update is downloaded?

I think the USB keyboard support may be nintendo's answer for online communication for Wi-Fi enabled games
just give us voice and have it over with

Hi,
I appreciate your taking the time to share your comments with us regarding the ASCII Keyboard Controller for the Nintendo GameCube. While I haven't heard of any plans to make this controller compatible with the Wii console, I will be happy to pass along your e-mail to the appropriate department for further review. If we get any updated information on this subject, we'll be sure to post the news to our website (www.nintendo.com), so please check back from time to time.
