Title: Framed map: The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past - Light World
Post by: JonLeung on October 02, 2007, 01:13:55 PM

Well, I finally got it done.  I decided to follow along with UncleBob's idea of getting a map printed and so I got printed the first map of VGMaps.com, The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past's Light World!  It's 50 cm x 50 cm.

I chose this basic white Ribba frame from IKEA, 'cause just in case I do decide to print Alex Foster's Dark World map, I can get a matching frame that's black for it, and then put them next to each other or maybe on opposite sides of the same room.

Here's another shot...

The original map can be found on my site here:

That is incredibly awesome. Also, your site has cost me many hours of my time in the past

Pretty hardcore, I'd say.

Nice.

You should have made it one of those changing holograms, so that when you change the angle of perception, it becomes the dark world and you become a bunny.[/spoilers]

That's sweet.  Much neater than mine.

If you don't mind me asking, what was the final cost?

I could see this and the Dark World Map together being quite a beautiful art piece for a wall.  but if you were doing both, you would probably want it smaller, so that you can put it better on just one wall.

Another interesting thing would be to frame more rectangular vertical strips.  Light world, Dark World, Light World, Dark.  Or even Light World, Dark World, Dark World, Light World.

Almost too much, but hey, I need to splurge on something now and then.

Since the Canadian dollar and American dollar are practically the same now, these figures will probably have more meaning now (than back in the day when a thousand Canuck bucks was like one American dollar).

The frame came from IKEA, and was $19.99 ($21.19 after tax).

The print came from Riley's, and was a whopping $54.92.  Can't remember if that included tax or not.  $17 of that was some stupid "digital processing fee", probably because I submitted my order via the Internet.  I guess you have to pay for convenience, but I thought it was a little excessive.

And then there's the time I spent putting the original map together, which, considering it was my first map, took longer than it would take me now.

Even though the Dark World wasn't made by me, I'm considering making a correction to it (a cave under a rock isn't on there) and doing a palette colour check, but then I'll be asking for it in a black frame for Christmas.  :P

It is a shame that Death Mountain breaks the continuity of the map. Still, this is awesome stuff. I thought about doing something similar with Super Mario Bros. 1-1 in the past, but without the frame--it would be far too long.

If only the printing was not so expensive, I would definitely do this myself. Maybe with Super Mario World or Link's Awakening.

You can get 20"x30" poster prints at Wal*Mart for like, $16 - on Photo Paper and all.  You could always adjust the image so that it has a bunch of white space on one edge to make it print correctly.

A SMB 1-1 map would look pretty cool... framed.

Yes, the map would look pretty cool, but it's quite long.

Custom Frame, of course...

You could print the wallpaper compilation of all the areas in Super Mario Bros....  Ian Albert has those, and of course that's in a more standard-proportioned rectangle.

Personally would have done it Black and the Dark World White for the Ying-Yang of it all.  Though it is pretty cool.  I do wish printing was cheaper.
