Title: Virtual Console Fridays: September 14, 2007

Japanese titles are now available... temporarily and at a price. Updated with upcoming games.

Recently, two Japanese titles, Super Mario Bros. 2 (The Lost Levels) and Mario's Super Picross popped up on the OFLC's website.  Just two weeks later, they are available for download in Europe and Australia.

It doesn't appear that Nintendo put any effort in localizing the games as Mario's Super Picross comes with a warning that it contains Japanese text.  The game also comes with a premium price of 900 Wii points.  The Lost Levels costs 600 points. Even more troublesome is the fact that Super Mario Bros. 2 will only be available for download until the end of September.

After a big set of Genesis games last week, the system is taking a break, with no new releases.  Turbografx gets one release, Neutopia II, which arrived in North America earlier this week.

Nintendo Australia described this week's launches as part of Mario Week, honoring the beginning of the Hanabi Festival in Japan.  Next week will be Ninja Week with two NES games, Ninja Gaiden and the Japanese game, Ninja JaJaMaru-Kun.  Following after that is Sci-Fi week with releases of Gradius III for SNES and the long-awaited Japanese arcade shooter, Sin and Punishment.

If you download Mario 2 now, then after the end of September you run out of space and have to delete it, can you still re-download it?

Oh, and perhaps a better question: what the hell is the point of limiting the time when you can buy it?

Hey, if they're willing to put warnings saying that the games in Japanese this means ANY Japan only game has a chance now.

Hopefully they'll take a chance on the Fire Emblem's then.  If Nintendo's not going to even bother translating the games then they should have no problem releasing any of those games over here then.

Yeah, this concept of limited time only is NOT a good thing.

Jesus, that kind of crap can ruin the whole Virtual Console.

Goddamn it! >.> I still want translations! Even though I can somewhat understand, but still, would be nice to know what they are really saying. For now, jeez.

Maybe someone who wants everyone who wants it to download it ASAP, so they can quickly get an idea of the number of people who are interested in this type of thing.

Or it might be a lie to make people buy faster instead of hesitating? Perhaps soon they'll say that due to "overwhelming demand" they had to keep it available?

Or maybe NoE was worried that they might be doing something right and decided to screw it up immediately.

Perhaps the untranslated versions are limited time only.  They could translate them and then give people who downloaded the "Limited" edition the option to re-download the updated/translated version or keep their cooler "original" version.

Naw, that's too much hope.
