Title: Warhawk? Talk about no hype.
Post by: GoldenPhoenix on August 27, 2007, 07:01:07 PM
I didn't find it out until now that Warhawk for PS3 is due tomorrow! There are 0 reviews for the game. Should be interesting to see how one of Sony's big 3 (Lair and Heavenly Sword being the other two) turns out.

I saw this game at PAX. I didn't even bother.

Were people running into walls trying to control it?

Sony really must be brain dead, they are releasing Lair as well this week (Thursday).

dragons vs. flying machines
but hey, you can't get bad scores if no one reviews your game!

Nah, there are reviews of the game, but they suck (about as bad as Lair)... =)

Lair comes out on the 4th of september, next week. And Warhawk doesn't need much hype, there aren't that many ps3 owners and the ones that are already know which games are coming out, so no big deal. Also you should listen to the podcast(s) from ign where one developer from warhawk was there to answer questions and whatnot, and I must say this that as a developer that guy is awesome, I sure wouldn't mind having his mentality developing for a Nintendo system.
Special Note: If anyone one hasn't noticed GP has been on a bitching spree, beware, those claws are not sharp but they still do damage...heil to the borg queen.

Actually Caliban check out ebgame's release schedule, it is coming out this week. Also I think I'll pass on having horribly generic Sony developers working for Nintendo. Heck even 1up.com said that the game wasn't even $40 worth, and you know how pro Sony they are.

I downloaded warhawk last night... unlike Heavenly Sword, it definately lives up to it's hype! It's alot different than I was thinking it would be. It's alot like battlefield 1949 but with a 3rd person camera for running around. IGN gave it an 8.8 and I agree with that rating. It's fun as hell! I haven't enjoyed getting my ass handed to me online in a long time. Much more fun than Resistance's online mode.

It is sad, but this game may prove how desparate PS3 owners really are! I find it kind of funny that PSM gave it a 6.5.

This is the first game that next-gen has had that promises to have reviews as wildly varying as Wii game reviews. Is the PS3 catching up to the Wii?

Haha, from what I've read the game isn't really even a full game it is more of a budget title (Heck it is priced that way), so I have a feeling the reviews vary because they are rating it on cost vs benefit. Still odd that the official playstation magazine is the one to give it the lowest score! Anyway I will probably get it because of the price, maybe I can get some quick fun out of it (Wouldn't be too hard to get more fun out of Warhawk then I did out of Resistance). Then again with all the truly great games coming out for most of the systems (Excluding PS3) I may just want to move on.

Warhawk has no hype because it's no big deal. The only reason it got any major attention was because Sony wanted to demonstrate the motion control of the Sixaxis but had nothing else. Sony pretended the Ridge Racer 7 (which apparently is just a port of Ridge Racer 6) was a big title too but there was no hype because no one cared.
The PS3 gives me this Atari 5200 vibe. It's the followup to a huge console but no one cares and the older console seems to remain more popular. All the big "Playstation brand" games since the PS3 came out are all on the PS2.

Ouch a scathing critique by Ian that is directed at Sony not Nintendo! woohoo.

I'm actually pretty saddened that Sony is killing traditional arcade flight gaming with Warhawk. It looked like it could've shaped up to be an absolutely epic single player action shooter. But turning it into a Battlefied clone... /sigh

It seems to be more of a Battlefield wannabe or a budget Battlefield. The Battlefield series has become quite good lately (Not to mention the mod community does amazing things with it).

Actually GP, the US Playstation site has it at September 4th, and what I based my first reply was on the delay that was anounced by Factor 5/Sony themselves where they delayed to the 4th of September and that anouncement was weeks ago. Whether he is a generic developer or not I cannot say, but what I can say is that you didn't even give a him a chance by hearing what he has to say or what is his gaming philosophy is. I couldn't care less on what 1Up says, when they fail to be objective in regards to Nintendo games they fail too for the other systems, then they are made of fail altogether. People still bought the $59.99US Shadowrun for the 360...and Warhawk has way more content than Shadowrun has had since its release.
Just to make sure that anyone that reads this and thinks that I'm some Sony fanboy, I don't own a PS3, I got a PS2-slim this year, and when I get a PS3 I will also get a 360...so there, I'm no Sony fanboy.

The fact still remains that Lair is more than likely releasing this week, I knew about the delay but from the most current reports it is coming out Thursday (at least shipping then). I've seen Warhawk (heck I'm probably going to download it) but Nintendo does not need some rinky dink guy who gave a good presentation on Warhawk or gaming philosophy. Nintendo is just fine without taking cues from Sony developers. Also I don't really care so much about the 1up review (who usually are more pro Sony BTW), as I am about the official magazine giving the game a low score. It sounds like a budget title, not like that is a bad thing (at least they have priced it like that unlike some other, oh, ALIEN game out there). ALso shadowrun was a huge rip off as well and I'd much rather play Warhawk over it.

Nintendo already has enough of a good gaming mentality, don't need to pollute it with a mainstream guy! So stop twisting my words by saying I twisted your words which were twisted.
Oh yeah it is pretty interesting, the game is only 800mbs, that is pretty small for a game now days. Heck most demos are around that! Oh well I'm downloading it as we speak.

Well I'm not surprised and surprised at the same moment, I'm not surprised since warhawk is an online only game. I'm surprised since a lot of developers tend to bloat their data sizes due to the blu-ray capacity hell Ninja Theory bragged that the sound took up 10GB in the game which to me is just rediculous.

Well, they probably were told pretty early that the game would be download-only and decided to not make it large as a result.

Ok...I really don't get it. How can a game with only 5 maps and 4 different play modes get such high scores from reviewers.
Basically it sounds to me like a game that just combines good airborne, tank, and land battle together in a multiplayer experience...but with little to no variety.
I am beginning to think that graphics and online gameplay has the ability to blind reviewers into believing anything is great.
However, the Wii always gets knocked around...even good games...for not having great graphics or online.
But after the high reviews I expect Battalion Wars 2 to be getting high scores.

I played some Warhawk today, my friend brought his PS3 to play on my HDTV because he doesn't have one yet, it was fun but, and there's a big but, it took me quite a while to get used to the dual-analog style of play and even worse when it comes to aiming when I have been playing alot of MP3C, I was really getting frustrated at the aiming but nevertheless it was fun and even more because both of us were playing online and we were just goofing around every once in while.

Well I would recommend buying it online unless you really want the headset, for 39.99 I think it is worth it. Just expect a fun, yet limited experience.

I can see it being fun that way, also I agree totally with the controls. Wii has spoiled me to traditional analog controls, where aiming has been harder than ever to get used to with the analog sticks.

Thanks. Yeah I'm thinking I'll get the hard copy, as I do need a headset... but any Blue-Tooth headset works right? I'll order it online if I can find another headset for cheaper I guess.

When I first heard of Warhawk I thought it be interesting as a Single Player game. Then I later heard they stripped the single player portion of it and I'm no longer interested. Now I'm going to watch the Wall E trailer again.
I will also say that 800MB is small for a PS3 game where the demos seem to be around a gig.
Edit: Wow that review makes it sound like it stuck everything else and through the gameplay out the window. Which gave it the low score.

So, is 0/3 in terms of trying for a megahit a good thing?
Also, it looks like Sony has found a good use for all those not-exactly-flying-off-the-shelves PS3s, as well as saving themselves a lot of money.

I played some last night with a friend from another board, and without his help I would still have no idea what I was doing. Once I got the hang of it however, I started to have some fun. I've also noticed a severe lack of communication during games. It's like the amount of players online is so large that no one feels comfortable talking to all of those strangers or something. Very different to Gears Of War where with only four to a team everyone is relaying instructions/requests back and forth.
I'm UltraMav on PSN if anyone wants to play.
