Title: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: nickmitch on August 25, 2007, 03:02:22 PM
*WARNING*
If you keep up with the anime as it's released in Japan, then there will be spoilers, so stop reading now. This thread is intended for the manga readers because Sakura killing Sasori is taking too damn long. See? I just spoiled that whole fight. Congrats.

Anyway. HUGE bomb dropped this past issue. I was incredibly surprised. It was rumored for quite some time, and I assumed it myself, but it's great to finally have it confirmed. Also, Itachi vs. Sasuke is finally happening. Thank jeebus.

I personally find it more interesting that Pain looks a hell of a lot like Naruto, so I wonder how that will pan out...

And the Itachi/Sasuke fight will end abruptly without finishing (if it even starts), because drawing out things to the ends of the Earth is what shonen series like Naruto is about... =3

Looking forward more to the eventual Kakashi VS Tobi fight!

Probably the best manga ever.

I LOVE the "Well there's Kakashi . . ." - "That's a given" line for when they discuss the next hokage.

Edit: also Jiraya is going to die which is sad =( I hope Tsunade dies so that we can have Kakashi as hokage.

"Probably the best manga ever."

The twists are too predictable and the fighting is pretty boring, so I can't agree with this, but thankfully the negatives are made up by some great character personalities and character interaction, which I consider to be the most important aspect of a manga...

"Edit: also Jiraya is going to die which is sad =("

Let's face it, by the time all is said and done with, a LOT of major characters are going to be dead... =)

Bill you lost some face by saying the twists are predictable (some are but not all) and that the fighting is boring (good recovery on the compliments but still) . . . I dunno man I personally feel Naruto is the best manga ever written at this point in time.

Also I meant this particular manga was the best one but I shoulda phrased it as chapter sorry lol. Still I think Naruto is the best ever.

Sorry, I just hate how shonen manga takes a fight and drags it on for a dozen chapters... =3

Yeah, then the fight gets predictable, too.  However, I don't generally read manga, either, so I'm not really one to talk.  I have read a lot of Bleach and Naruto, just because I'm impatient.

Bleach is terrible, I stopped following bleach a long time ago . . .

Huh? I read the last issue, what was so special about it?

They finally said that the fourth was Naruto's father. It was about time, too. Also, Tobi having the Sharingan was a HUGE surprise out of no where. That was the least predictable twist in the whole series. He always came off as sort of incompetent, so it was out of nowhere. But other than that, I agree with Bill. The twists are easy to see, and fights are predictable. The problem with them is that you have two characters fighting to the death, and one is expendable, like Sasuke vs Deidara. I was pretty upset when they reused the same idea from when Kakashi fought Kakuzu. (ie, using Sharingan to see earth style seals and then using Chidori.)

"Tobi having the Sharingan was a HUGE surprise out of no where. That was the least predictable twist in the whole series."

Nah, it was pretty predictable...  Remember Obito Uchiha? (Kakashi's former teammate)  Now watch as I take Tobi's name:  Tobitobitobitobito...Notice something? ='D
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: nickmitch on August 26, 2007, 06:23:01 AM
Yeah, once I saw that he had the Sharingan, I just figured it'd be him. I didn't notice the name thing though, good job on that one. Plus, it's his left eye.

EDIT: not acronym, the other thing. . .anagram! that's it. The way you explain it make the other 'o' seem negligible.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: Mashiro on August 26, 2007, 06:24:39 AM
The whole obito/tobi complex is interesting and I agree I knew he would have a sharingan bit I wasn't expecting him to be ANOTHER Uchiha and not Obito.

I don't see the fights as predictable like you guys do. Maybe in the outcome kinda but not in the execution.

The fights are generally well written and more than just "I'm stronger than him so I can win" sorrta thing and usually involves a big thought process to beat the enemy. That's why I like Naruto so much.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: Bill Aurion on August 26, 2007, 06:27:12 AM
Well some fights are decent enough, like Shikamaru's fight...But Naruto's fight against Kakuzu felt really rushed...A member of Akatsuki falling for a Bunshin switch-a-roo?  Meh!
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: nickmitch on August 26, 2007, 06:27:55 AM
For me, though, it's the fact that he has one eye. Obito gave Kakashi his left and he has his right showing. (Did I say left in my last post? Oh well, I'm not editing it again.)
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: nickmitch on August 26, 2007, 06:29:28 AM
Well, the main part of that fight was to show off Naruto's new Jutsu, and I think it got the job done in that aspect. But, you're right. The fight could've been more thought out like Shikimaru's fight.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: Mashiro on August 26, 2007, 06:34:17 AM
But Naruto doesn't have Shikamaru's smarts . . .
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.

They've already established that Naruto is pretty tactical while in a fight as far back as when he fought Neji, so that's not a good excuse!

On another subject, one thing I just realized is that Pain not only looks like Naruto, but happens to be from a water-based country like Naruto's mother is...Seems like family of some sort for sure...

Well Naruto is tactical at times but . . . he isn't Shikamaru smart. Naruto as a ninja and a character just needs to become better . . . Naruto just sucks as a ninja and brute force isn't always going to win. I would love to see him learn some taijitsu and some more techniques. Which I am sure he will sometime in the future but for now he is still meh.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: that Baby guy on August 26, 2007, 07:50:55 AM
It's simple:  Shikamaru fights his battles like a game of chess.  He's planned out three, four, five, or ten moves ahead.  He knows his opponent, knows all their options, and he forms strategies and counters to this.

Naruto goes into battle with a deluxe bag of tricks.  He decides things on the spot, and can notice and exploit immediate weaknesses and mistakes.  He's an instinctive fighter, but he's got excellent instinct.  He doesn't form a game plan for his fight, but he's able to execute any ability he wants to, because he's planned out the best way to perform his tricks as individual moves.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: Mashiro on August 26, 2007, 07:53:17 AM
Yeah but Naruto's deluxe bag of tricks has kinda dwindled as time has gone on
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: nickmitch on August 26, 2007, 10:49:21 AM
Yeah, Naruto keeps learning new, more powerful Jutsu based off Rasengan. I mean, he learned Rasengan, stepped that up to Odama Rasenga and then Fuuton Rasengan Shuriken. He needs more regular Jutsu to fight with and preferably another element. Water is a good possibility.

Also, I agree with Bill. Pain has to be related to Naruto. I think he might be his grandfather or at least uncle.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: Athrun Zala on August 27, 2007, 06:36:42 AM
the Tobi = Obito thing has been rumored since FOHEVAH, but I really doubt it's him since, you know, he was crushed by a giant rock... (if he is though, we totally need a Tobi-Kakashi fight...)

glad that we are finally getting to the Sasuke-Itachi fight... and that the 4th = Naruto's father was finally confirmed...

and it'd be really interesting if Naruto and Pain are relatives of some sort...
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: nickmitch on August 27, 2007, 06:50:30 AM
Well, he still could've survived the rock thing. The problem is that the evidence for the rumor is overwhelming. Names, aside, he has the Sharingan and a mask with a single eye hole. Also, there's the dark, spikey hair. If Tobi uses some fire type jutsu, then there's no way it couldn't be him. It's also possible that Tobi is some how connected to Obito, but who knows?
Also, when will the anime cover the Kakashi Gaiden story? They should've done that already because it discusses Kakashi's father who was mentioned when they arrived in the Sand Villiage. This must've been kind of confusing to anime viewers who aren't manga readers. I seriously demand an ova, movie or something.

*Bump*
I'll try to bump this thread after I read the week's issue, but I'll probably wait because I'm lazy and in college. Anyway, it looks like Sasuke is uncharacteristically going to fight with Hebi. I figured they'd be engaged in something else for Sauske and Itatchi to have a nice one-on-one. It's still possible for this.
Also, Pain seems fully aware of Jiraya's infiltration. They'll probably start fighting in a few issues. I think the two fights will be sort of simultaneous, but not really. So, the question is: Is Jiraya's death really impending? And what will happen between Itatchi and Sauske? Also, the frog house trap was pretty neat looking.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.

Kinda a boring manga this week but I feel Jiraya will die . . . it's time for another character death.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: Bill Aurion on September 03, 2007, 08:15:31 AM
Jiraiya will "die," but not really...I personally would rather see Tsunade and Jiraiya dying in each other's arms...
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.

How can you not really die?

Do you mean like he's left for dead then comes back at a later point?
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: nickmitch on September 03, 2007, 09:23:36 AM
He could be injured beyond recovery.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: Bill Aurion on September 03, 2007, 11:55:18 AM
I mean like, the manga will imply that he's dead, and all the characters will think he's dead, but he's really not... =)

Ok, interesting issue this week. We got some info on Pain. We know now approximately just how badass he is. Also, as a nice tidbit, we learn the origin of the name "Sanin." Pretty nice. Discuss.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: Mashiro on September 08, 2007, 05:42:51 AM
After this week . . . Jiraiya is so freaking dead. How in gods name can he beat Pain?

I loved how they put in the whole origin of the "Sannin" title . . . but yeah I don't even know what to expect next.

At first I thought Jiraiya would have a decent shot against pain but now I don't know. Also, Fumma clan? New blood line clan? Must . . . know. . . more.

Pain is the leader of Akatsuki, so everyone should have expected him to be amazingly powerful... =)
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: Mashiro on September 08, 2007, 06:16:15 AM
I expected him to be amazingly powerful but not like . . . better than the 4th powerful lol which is what he seems to be.

Though I shouldn't write of Jiraiya just yet, seeing as how we never saw him go all out at this point.

Jiraiya will lose, and Naruto will eventually fight and defeat Pain, showing his progress over the series and how he's surpassed the prior generations (just like what his win over Kakazu symbolized...)
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: nickmitch on September 08, 2007, 09:18:49 AM
Yeah, I can see this as the cue for a new arc. Jiraya's side of the story will probably end with his death. Then, after a (hopefully) climatic fight between Sasuke and Itatchi, the mission will end, resulting in a regrouping in Konaha, where Naruto will learn of Jiraya's death and proceed to try to defeat Pain. I'm just a bit curious as to how the stories will blend in. We've got some good conflicts in the works: Itatchi vs. Sasuke, Jiraya vs. Pain Kakashi vs. Tobi, Suigetsu vs. Kisame, etc.

What if that isn't how it happens?  What if they hypnotize Jiraiya, Tsunade goes to find out what happens, she eats something poisonous that she, as a medical ninja, has never before heard of, and then Yamato is somehow able to find all this out?  Then, what if Tobi kills the rest of the Akasumaraiasiias, and he gets killed by the people of the Village Hidden in the Rain?

What then!?

I dunno. I'd like to see them befriend each other again. Have it so that their story ends differently than Orochimaru and Jiraya. However, I would love to see them duke it out one last time, just to see who is stronger at the end of the series. I particularly would think that after defeating Itatchi, Sasuke would move on to his second goal: rebuilding his clan. I assume Karin would help him because A) She's sciencey, right? and B) She totally has the hots for Sasuke. (But then, who doesn't?)

I would hope / assume that would happen as well as Sasuke really has no reason to become the "final boss" for Naruto.

A fight at the end where they fight just to see who is stronger (in a similar way as to how S-cry-ed ended) would make far more sense.

Another nice issue this week. It definitely felt forboding of Jiraya's  death. We got to learn a little bit more about Minato (albeit, not too much). One thing I would like to know is what Naruto's mom thought of this or if she was already dead while it was happening. The story seems to be getting to the good part. Tobi standing on the Madara statue was pretty foreshadowing. Hopefully he'll have a nice showdown with Kakashi. Also, it's now presumable that Madara summoned the Kyuubi. It did ask Sasuke about him when they spoke. We were also teased at the fact that Naruto is ALOT stronger than he could've potentially have been before. If Pain kills Jiraya, I could see Naruto recieving the other half of the chakra and beating him.

Yeah this last chapter was definitely cool, information wise, no battles, but it was awesome how all that info was poured, and that frog summoning was wierd and cool at the same time haha, even the frog was wierd.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: Bill Aurion on September 15, 2007, 03:41:26 PM
Maybe I never paid attention in prior chapters, but it was pretty neat to learn that the two figures at the Valley of the End are Madara and the First...
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: nickmitch on September 15, 2007, 07:59:30 PM
I'm pretty sure that Kakashi noted the significance of the statue, but not the names. Looking back, you can really see the meaning behind the Naruto/Susuke climax of Part I. I just hope we get more of that back story.

Another week, another bump. Sorry, it's late this week, but I had some issues over the weekend. Anyhoo, let's not let trivial matters stop us, shall we?
So, we now know that Jiraya is somehow connected to Konan and Pain. Pain called him "sensei," so could this mean that there's something more to Pain looking like Naruto and the Fourth? Also, it seems that Pain has 6 different bodies. They most likely have different abilities, any speculations? Also, Naruto and co. seem to be hot on Sasuke's trail now! Will they catch him before he gets to Itachi? In any case, excite shall ensue in the next issue.
Discuss.

So, umm. . .after last week's thrilling discussion, we find some new info this week. It was a pretty good issue despite being mostly a flashback and not mentioning Sasuke. I liked the twist at the end. Next week will probably be more flashbacks, so hopefully we'll see more of Pain's abilities.

What twist was there at the end? We already knew one of those kids was going to turn out to be Pain.
I just want to know what kind of powers his wacky eyes give him.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: nickmitch on October 03, 2007, 11:22:50 AM
Well, I thought that it'd be the spikey haired kid who was pretty much the leader of the three kids, but it was the one with the long, black hair. The other kid looked more like Pain's other body.

Another week, another manga. The flashbacks should be over until we get to find out exactly what happened to those three before they formed Akatsuki. But until then, just what DID happen? Aaaand will this finally be Jiraya's end? Discuss.

I'm a bit lost on the complete lack of compassion that Konan and Pain have for Jiraiya considering it LOOKS like they parted on good terms, so I'm hoping that will be answered sometime soon... =)
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: nickmitch on October 06, 2007, 03:59:24 PM
I assume that something pretty bad happened to them once he left, leaving them feeling unprepared and then resentful towards Jiraya. Or, maybe they're just so cold that they'll kill off any outsider, friend or otherwise.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: Caliban on October 06, 2007, 04:02:39 PM
And what the hell can those eyes (the rinnengan) do that make them so powerful.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: Mashiro on October 06, 2007, 08:18:22 PM
I am kinda angered at how stupid this makes Jiraya . . . if you REALLY think about it here's what happend:

1) Jiraiya discovers kid who has RIN'NENGAN the most POWERFUL of all the eye blood lines . . .
2) Jiraiya trains said kid with the most god like of all eye blood lines
3) Jiraiya LEAVES said kid in foreign country where he knows he will face many hardships . . .

wait . .. WHAT. Is Jiraiya insane? For once I AGREE with Oorochimaru in that he should have just killed him. Hell, when you say that the Rin'nengan is said to be from like demons themselves or something, wouldn't you think it smart to either slay the kid from the opposing village with it or I dunno STAY WITH HIM AND MAKE SURE HE DOESN'T GROW UP TO BECOME A MANIAC?

I dunno one or the other seemed way better than the "Welp . . . see ya!" he did . . . ::Sighs::
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: nickmitch on October 07, 2007, 06:39:40 AM
Well, Jiraya was still pretty immature in those days (like he's improved, amirite?), so he definitely didn't think that one through. He would have done better to bring him back to the leaf village, if anything. What ever the Rin'negan can do, it sure must be power considering what he's done with it over the years.

So, this week was pretty ok. Still some questions left though. How did Yahiko die? etc. We finally got Pain's full plan. We knew that he was gonna use the tailed beasts to sell as weapons, but now we know that it's with the intent of purging the entire planet. The summons were pretty sweet. We got some good comic relief. Let's hope for a good fight. It'll probably be Jiraya's last.

Discuss.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: Caliban on October 13, 2007, 02:41:22 PM
Pain's motivation is lame, he's got the power to create and destroy ninjutsu itself, he can revolutionize it, yet all he wants is to put the responsibility on others for his own depressing goals.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: nickmitch on October 13, 2007, 03:16:07 PM
Yeah, truthfully, he's an interesting character, but not a very good one. He's too "destroy the world" typical, especially for manga/anime.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: Caliban on October 14, 2007, 02:53:33 PM
He has interesting powers, but he's too emo for my liking, heck he even looks like an emo with all those piercings and whatnot.
The thing that gets me is that Jiraiya might have to sacrifice himself for such a jerk, killing off such a cool character is really going to annoy me.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: nickmitch on October 14, 2007, 03:05:26 PM
Me too. I REALLY liked Jiraya as a character, and I'll miss him when he's gone. If there's one thing that I wish, it's that he goes out either killing Pain or causing him to use some extremely desperate measures, like using the 1-3 tails for a small version of his ultimate jutsu.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: nickmitch on October 19, 2007, 01:27:52 PM
So, Jiraya busted out some new at the end of this week's issue. Also, Pain seems to only do summonings, but what does Jiraya suspect that it means? Also, will Jiraya's new abilities be enough to gain him victory?
Discuss.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: Caliban on October 19, 2007, 04:07:01 PM
I think it's because Pain doesn't have a "real" body anymore, so each body he uses has a specific use, then again Jiraiya doesn't know about this. Then again, Pain might not like touching other people because he thinks he's a divinity. I don't know, he's wierd.
Jiraiya might just have a slight chance of winning, hopefully whatever it is that comes out of the shadow I hope we get to see some badass moves.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: nickmitch on October 27, 2007, 02:46:12 PM
So, Jiraya's 'Hermit Mode' made quick work of Pain's Chameleon-like summon. A good chunk of the issue was an almost worthless flashback. Also, what's the deal with Pain's new summon?

I liked the flashbacks and the hermit mode was insane. My friend thinks the summon is Naruto parents or something . . . all I know is Jiraiya is gonna be in for a rough fight.

I don't think they're his parents, I mean, Jiraiya is pretty young in the flashbacks, I think, and, of course, the toads aren't people, and can't give birth to people, I'd wager.  Besides, we know that the fourth and some rain woman are Naruto's parents.

However, the person that giant toad was talking about was probably Naruto, not Pain.  After all, why would it be Pain when Pain isn't truly the head honcho?

Well, it could be Pain, but here's why I think it's not: Jiraya's not making a decision. In the flash back (which, albeit cool for looking in to Jiraya's past) the sage says that Jiraya would make a decision about him. He considers that he's just made the decision to kill Pain, but he was planing on doing that before discovering his identity anyway. However, he did already make the decision to train Pain in his youth. This also wouldn't make sense because the prophecy was about his pupil, which Pain wouldn't've been, if he just decided to take Orochimaru's advice. On the other hand, Pain's goals seem to be about world peace, but will most likely lead to the end of the world. This cross road compares to the prophecy, but could very well be a lead in.

we doin't really know that...

I think that Pain's summon is either an Edo Tensei variation, or two of his other bodies...

Well, the manga skipped a week as my heart skipped a beat when I found out. Anyway, Jiraya came out swinging with some cool, new jutsu. However, Pain seems to be on his game. What will Jiraya do and what's the deal with these clones anyway?!?

Not really Mashiro, if Jiraiya also creates clones he can still have a chance, although I think that if Naruto ever develops his cloning technique to a high level then even he could beat Pain on this battle situation.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: nickmitch on November 09, 2007, 04:28:06 PM
I can see where the clones would be able to distract Pain enough so that Jiraya can land some blows. However, it's kind of hard to see Jiraya winning. I'm sure that Hermit mode was a HUGE ace up his sleve and Pain has a few tricks in his own hat.

Post by: Mashiro on November 10, 2007, 03:49:45 AM
I just feel like hes screwed because his like ultimate attacks were easily countered. I'm sure JIraiya has more tricks up his sleeves but it just doesn't look good at this point.

I can see what you guys are saying, I too think that Jiraiya doesn't have much of a chance.
But there's something about Pain's strategy that makes me think that it can be beatable just like the perfect defense from Neji, and Gaara. That's how I see Pain's strategy, for every situation he can use a variety of perfect defenses, first it was invisibility coupled with a summoned beast, now he has a 360 degree battlefield vision in combination with 2 human summonings.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: nickmitch on November 10, 2007, 04:42:48 PM
I agree. It seems to me that if Jiraya were to engage all three individuals, then Pain's advantage is lost. His powers only work when one's fighting and the other two are watching. Seems like an obvious weakness.

So, this week was Jiraya's comeback. He seems to have Pain on the ropes, and with next week potentially ending the fight, can he still win?

Jiraya had Pain down for the count, but Pain came back with a vengeance. Jiraya is left in a tight situation, but can he survive? Can he win?

Well . . . I read the RAW and I thought "Damn Jiraiya is in trouble . . ." but having read the much better quality translation and seeing his arm got completely destroyed after that rebuttal attack from Pain, I now think "Damn Jiraiya really is gonna die".

A one armed Jiraiya against 6 "Pains" can't possible win. It's sad but like I originally felt this is going to be the hermits last stand. I just hope Tsunade comes to his aide, dies and then Kakashi becomes Hokage.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: nickmitch on November 24, 2007, 04:49:42 AM
I don't know. I kind of feel like Kakashi still belongs in the field. I'd rater Tsunade stay as Hokage for a while, but I know that Jiraya's death will be very troubling to her. But, yeah, with Jiraya's arm gone, I don't think he'll make it. This issue did a good job of making you think that Jiraya won, if only for a brief moment.

Show down time! Jiraya takes his last stand against "god;" Naruto and the Leaf ninja team confront Tobi (who might be a ghost); Suigetsu challenges Kisame and Sasuke finally faces off against Itatchi. The sh!t is finally starting to hit the fan, folks. What'll happen next week??

Oh yeah, what an awesome cliffhanger chapter, sh!t is definitely going to hit the fan. Jiraiya dies, even though I don't want him to. Tobi reveals himself to Kakashi as Tobito or whatever his name is...lets call him the uchiha cyclops. Sasuke will win. Suigetsu wins. Pain is still annoying.

I still get the feeling from Itachi that he's really not out for his brother's blood...In fact, I feel as if Itachi kept Sasuke alive so he could train and in the end be killed by him...A morbid family love would be the best way to describe it, I guess...
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: nickmitch on November 30, 2007, 10:36:08 PM
I get that same feeling. Itachi is too damn powerful. He knew that know one without the sharingan would be able to kill him, so he just made it somebody's one goal in life to kill him (aside from the whole rebuilding the clan thing).

So, Sasuke vs Itachi will finally happen... and it took Kishimoto only almost 400 chapters :/

anyways, I hope that the fight is interesting...

and looking forward to the Tobi vs Team Kakashi/Team Kurenai (hope Team Gai fights as well! XD)

Uh, what about Pain? He has the most powerful eyes, Itachi could have easily asked Pain to kill him if he was so inclined to be dead, it would have made Sasuke's life alot easier and we wouldn't have gone through with Sasuke whine about his brother...oh wait, then Sasuke would obviously want revenge because pain killed the one that he was supposed to kill, and then both Sasuke (sacrificed himself) and Pain die in combat and then there's no unnecessary Jiraiya death that we will surely witness.

Well, perhaps you can think of it like this...Itachi killed off the Uchiha clan except for his brother...He hopes for his brother to grow strong (yes, this is the wrong way to go at this, but Itachi does not appear to be of sound mind in the first place) and kill him, thus creating Sasuke as a new strong sprout for a new Uchiha clan...Think of it as a means of artificial selection...And as I said, a morbid family love... =)

He probably hates Pain too, or maybe assumed he was strong than him because he didn't know that he had the rinnegan. But, if he hated Pain, then he could have figured that making Sasuke stronger than himself, Sasuki could kill Pain as well.

I bet pain can transfer his soul to other bodies, just like Orochimaru, but with the exception that Pain can also copy his own soul into different bodies.

Seems almost like Pain conducts an attack on the psyche of his opponent (some sort of mental jutsu?) considering all of his forms are shinobi that Jiraiya has met in the past...

The stage has been set for two big fights in the on coming issues. The leaf team vs Tobi and (finally) the showdown between Sasuke and Itachi will (hopefully) start next week. Also, what's the deal with that code? Jiraya seems satisfied with his death. Also MADARA??? O_o

It was a weak chapter this week, in the sense that there were no answers given but even more questions were raised.
Madara must be Tobi, just my suspicion.
Why is it that a rinnengan user have to answer to orders given by Madara, is Madara that strong even though he's just a Sharingan user.
Kishimoto delayed, yet again, the Sasuke Vs. Itachi fight in quite a weak manner, I say.

I was surprised by it. It's great to know that Madara is still alive, but I don't think the mangekyou is the ultimate sharingan, what about kakashi's mangekyou.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: nickmitch on January 19, 2008, 10:51:37 AM
Well, I think Itatchi implied that the Mangekyou isn't the most powerful since Madara made the Kyubi his "pet" with his eyes. Was anyone else not really surprised that they were fighting entirely in genjutsu? I feel like I saw that little twist coming. I also want to see how Sasuke's transformation measures up to Itatchi's Mangekyou.
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: nickmitch on January 27, 2008, 10:58:02 AM
HOLY COW!!! So, we finally know Itatchi's true motives. We've learned a great deal about the history of Madara, the history of The Hidden Leaf as well as the Uchiha Clan and Akatsuki. And now, the final fight between the "last" of the Uchiha is finally, fully underway. Who will win? And how does this elaborate story tie in to Pain? And what about Tobi?

awesomeness... Itachi's motive was kinda unexpected, and loving the fact that great sacrifices have to be made in order to fully unlock the Sharingan...

also, we were shown a new Mangekyou variation... maybe there are more than those three?

Damn these illusions! So, the entire fight just now was Itachi's Tsukuyomi, and Sasuke seems to have bested it. Now, Itatchi is (hopefully) using his last resort. It certainly has to be one of his most powerful techniques and (again, hopefully) the last of his Sharingan. Will Sasuke be able to overcome again? Will he have a reserved sharingan ability just for this occasion? Or will Itatchi get his wish?

Discuss.

It's a lame fight I say, just because it's all genjutsu, and no taijutsu whatsoever. Bring back Rock Lee.

Post by: nickmitch on February 08, 2008, 07:24:41 PM
Amen to that, brother. I just can't stand this "The fight's over! OH WAIT! It's sooooo not!" story that's been playing out. It makes sense for this fight, but I'm ready to get it over with at this point. We've gotten, what, like 3-4 false starts already? It's time to call it a day.

Post by: Toruresu on February 09, 2008, 09:08:07 AM
Jeez, for a few pages I was happy that Sasuke got balanced by being blinded, but nooo, more Genjutsu.

Let's see if Amaterasu can beat Sasuke's Curse Mark transformation...

Can anyone explain to me if we've actually seen Amaterasu? Was that the black flame he used on chapter 144?
Title: RE: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: nickmitch on February 09, 2008, 09:14:24 AM
Well, the ending narrative implies that it's something we haven't seen before. So, I'm going to assume no. Also, being blind would cripple Sasuke more than balance him. I mean, he would be completely blind as opposed to partially blind, like his brother.

So Amaterasu was the Black Flame!  ;D

I still think that Sasuke shouldnt beat Itachi, looks like if he beats Amaterasu, Itachi has nothing left.

But come on, if Sasuke gets the Mangekyu Sharingan, he might be able to controll the Nine-Tails, where does that leave Naruto?
Title: Re: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: Caliban on February 15, 2008, 11:30:08 PM
The chapter wasn't conclusive. It doesn't say or show who won. At least it got physical and I was more entertained by that rather than the genjutsu battles.
Title: Re: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: nickmitch on February 16, 2008, 09:06:29 AM
So, the "big reveal" was finding out what exactly Ametseru was. I guess we'll see next issue if Sasuke can pull off a win. It seems that using this technique causes Itachi's eye to bleed, and his vision has already been blurred. By then end of the fight, he should have binded himself. The question just remains if Sasuke can/will take Itatchi's own eyes for hiself.
Title: Re: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: Caliban on February 17, 2008, 05:44:48 AM
Now that would be awesome, if Sasuke really did that to his brother.
Title: Re: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: Toruresu on February 18, 2008, 03:59:29 AM
No, I don't think it would. It would make Sasuke a whole lot stronger than Naruto plus the ability to control the Nine-Tails.

I would think that would make Itachi's eyes worthless...

SO! Both Itachi and Sasuke seem to be fresh out of chakra; however, Sasuke seems to has one last jutsu up his sleeve. What is it? Will it work? And what was up with his eyes in that last frame?

I dunno. I felt that it was more that "Itatchi missed." It was more like Sasuke was actually able to avoid and dodge, but at the same time, it was too anticlimatic. The issue came down to Itachi's last resort failing with ease. I was fairly disappointed.

Wow. I looked at the first post from Aug 25 and was shocked at how long it's been since I thought this fight was going to happen. Anyway, I'll be spending the rest of the weekend cleaning, traveling and all the while thinking of endings that are less climatic. I might need all of Spring Break for this.

Haven't updated this in a minute. Well, Itatchi's still dead and now Tobi has kidnapped Sasuke. Apparently, Tobi (or Madara) knows everything about Itatchi, who has implanted all of his eye techniques in Sasuke. I was actually hoping for more info about Itatchi this week, but I guess it'll be another 2 weeks before that happens.

Between gifts, secret codes, team ups, mission(s) and training, there's some good reason to bump this thread. I personally think the old frog is either dumb or not saying anything for some reason. I'm just glad that Naruto is finally getting some (more) training. Maybe, now he'll be up to Sasuke's level. Speaking of which, he and his crew have changed their name to Hawk. Awesome. The NEW goal is to destroy the Leaf. Also, Sausuke has a new Sharingan! He totally used it! It was kind of cool.

Let's chat.

Jiraiya was killed in a big battle. If Kakashi dies I think that would be such disrespect for the character. Asuma was not that important to begin with, so it's fine if he died that way.

And where the heck is Rock Lee. Gimme more Rock Lee.

QFT

I really wanna see him get in this fight against one of the many faces of Pain.

But yeah, Asuma was significant to his team, but not really to Naruto.  So, I hoping that Kakashi's death (no spoilers here) would be more impactful to Naruto's development.

Also, WTF, Danzou??  You jackass!

I just want to know what he's up to.  He's basically fucked the Leaf by preventing Naruto from getting back.  Well, maybe not fucked completely, but still.  What exactly is his motivation?  Protecting the 9-Tailed Fox?  Keeping Naruto out of the fight to save his life?  Or is there malice there?

You could see it that way, or you could see that Konohamaru may be a genius ninja. His Rasengan was pretty small, but it was still a Rasengan. Also, this talks of Naruto and his 'teaching skills'. Rasengan is still a top rank Jutsu, but Konohamaru is the grandson of the 3rd Hokage. Maybe setting up for another time jump? *shrugs*

Actually, looking at the bone pieces around him, I could see how the skeleton would be materializing and then attaching itself to the chakra.  I wonder what Bill makes of this. . .

Also, the position of the jaw bone would suggest the same.

So, now we're getting Pain's origin story.  The weird thing is that losing his parents was bad, but his dog dying threw him over the edge?
Title: Re: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: Caliban on April 24, 2009, 10:26:57 PM
Actually the death of his parents ignited the rinnengan, but the death of his companion dog did not, so it just makes his origin story a bit less lame.

I just want the story to go on past Pain because he just seems like cannon fodder to me even though he will have the pivotal role to make Naruto greater than he already is.

I can't wait for a Sasuke Vs Naruto battle. Although I think that we're going to see a battle between Sasuke and Madara first, even though I think that a Sasuke/Naruto Vs Madara would be that much better.

If Eichiro Oda from One Piece had written Naruto? Naruto would be 10 times better. At least Masashi Kishimoto isn't like Tite Kubo (Bleach) where he's been stalling the story for quite a few too many chapters.
Title: Re: Official Naruto Manga Thread.
Post by: nickmitch on April 25, 2009, 01:07:14 AM
Yeah, the problem with Bleach is that there's way too many fights going on at once, and one fight could easily take 10 issues before returning to the dozen other fights.  Plus, the same plot devices keep getting used.  "I actually can transform to be stronger than you thought I was!!"  or "Let's just jump the scene to the part where the good guy has used his/her full strength and is somehow still losing to the bad guy who has barely broken a sweat but then transforms just for the hell of it."

Surprisingly there isn't a big One Piece community in North-America, or Europe when compared to other animes. In Japan it is huge though. All in all, how can you not like a series that introduces a character that is a walking skeleton, that eats, poops, and likes to ask women "can I see your panties?" ;)
Title: Re: Official Naruto Manga Thread.

They watered it down way too much.  It got worse when the fights started getting brutal, so the editing process went in to over time to keep it 'family friendly.'  It took out a lot of the charm.

I would say that since Kakashi has the left eye from Obito, then Danzou has the right eye from Obito.

Tobi is Madara, but we have yet to know why he only has one eye, and I'm guessing it has to do something with how the First Hokage beat him.
