Title: The Official "I WANT THIS MUSIC IN THE GAME" Thread
Post by: Bill Aurion on August 19, 2007, 04:34:37 PM
I've been listening to a lot of videogame music today, so I started thinking about what tracks I'd like to see in Brawl...For starters:
~ Wario Ware: Smooth Moves Final "Boss" Theme - Put this in with a crazy, randomizing Wario Ware stage and it'd be the best stage ever! ~ Star Wolf's Theme - I'd personally want this thrown into that Arwing Battle stage that I'm hoping for, but the theme is so epic that it needs to be in the game regardless! ~ Sami's Theme/Super Power Theme (Advance Wars) - Because I really, REALLY want Sami (and the awesome soundtrack) to get into the game... ~ Aerie Fortress (Jungle Beat) - Because it's the best theme from the game (and a rocking battle track too!)... ~ Pollyanna w/ vocals (Mother) - Anyone else have the Mother Vocal OST? Such a great song... ~ Dragon Roost Island (Wind Waker) ~ Dark World Theme (Link to the Past) - I can't believe this didn't make it into the last game...Seriously... ~ Venus Lighthouse (Golden Sun) - Aha, never happening, but... ;_;
Into potential 3rd party territory: ~ Final Fantasy character - Classic FF battle theme ~ Sonic - Green Hill Zone or Lava Reef Zone ~ Tales character - Fighting of the Spirit - There's seriously like a 0.000000001% chance of a Tales character making it into the game, but this is the best battle theme in any RPG ever... ;_;
Okay, I better not get too carried away...

Yeah, I don't see more than like maybe 2 or 3 of those having any chance of being in (of the Nintendo ones).

- Super Metroid Remix of sorts (throw in the Defender of the Galaxy theme with some brinstar covered in vegetation music and I'll be happy, oh and maybe the intro prologue music as well).
3rd Party
- Frog theme from Chrono Trigger <3

- Theme that plays when escaping Ganon's Tower in Ocarina of Time - Rainbow Road theme from Mario Kart 64 (personally, my favorite version) - Sheik's theme - Koopa Kids boss music from Super Mario Bros. 3
3rd Party Sonic: As long as it doesn't have lyrics. I swear, if "Seven Rings in Hand" makes it....... Final Fantasy: One Winged Angel... perfect battle music... except the guitar solo in the Advent Children version Castlevania: Too many to choose. My favorite series in terms of music.

Bill: "~ Dark World Theme (Link to the Past) - I can't believe this didn't make it into the last game...Seriously..."
Not to argue against one of my all time favorites (Dark World), but the Dark World Death Mountain (SNES) would likely be more fitting, especially in an adventure stage.

The music in Super Princess Peach on DS was pretty sweet, I hope they use a song from that for her stage.
For Sonic, I hope they old school it with Marble Zone, Chemical Plant Zone, or Oil Ocean Zone :3

I'm not really sure why that would fit any more than the standard Dark World theme...You could also set the stage in more possible environments (I'd personally choose the swamp or Dark Kakariko)...As for Adventure Mode, it's an interesting thing to note that we don't know whether it will have original music, remixed music, or a mix of both!

The Dark World theme would be great for alternate music on the Bridge of Eldin.
I'd dance for joy if the original Super Mario Kart battle music played on the Mario Kart stage.

I am so happy that I am not the only person who really liked the Dark World theme from LTTP.
Interesting note: I think that the Song of Storms is a redone version of the Dark World Theme, or is at the very least a spiritual sibling, although I have no proof to back that up except the make up of the two songs is similar in my head.
As for other songs I would like to see in SSBB:
Surface Runner from Meroid II (it is the first area music) Upper Brinstar from Super Metroid (the jungle area) Lower Norfar from Super Metroid/Magmoor Cavern from Metroid Prime Battle with Nightmare from Kirby's Adventure/Nightmare in Dreamland Hyrule Castle theme and Lost Woods theme from LTTP The Coneria stage music from the original StarFox The Viscount battle music and the V-system theme from Metal Combat (never happening) Cloud Carpet theme from F-Zero: Maximum Velocity The Bowser battle theme from SMW Tal Tal Heights from Link's Awakening
As far as Sonic is concerned, they better use mostly 16-bit era music. The only really good song from the 3D titles, in my opinion, was "Open Your Heart" in all of its cheesy glory.
My ideal Sonic music would be a medley consisting of the main theme, Green Hill Zone from Sonic1, Chemical Plant Zone from Part 2, Ice Cap Zone from Sonic 3, and either the Lava Reef Zone or Death Egg Zone form Sonic & Knuckles.
This is assuming that Sonic is in of course.

I am beginning to want an option to play MP3s from SD card, like Exite Truck, in SSBB. It would be so cool to be rocking to something from OCR, Xoc, Metroid Metal, or The Minibosses while playing this game.

Eh, just not hectic enough, and you couldn't just speed it up easily... IMO, the overworld theme in the original game didn't fit well either.
Of course they could always remix it like they did in the sample OoT songs on the site (which sounds good and "fits")

How about this... we need more Zelda compositions like the one showcased because there's just too much good music to select just one score.

Are you talking about Gourmet Race? Because that has kind of become his de facto theme, pretty much co-opting his old one from the first two Dream Land games.

No, the Gourmet Race hasn't replaced it, his original theme is still his official theme. The only game Gourmet Race was used for his theme was the remake of Adventure for the GBA, but that doesn't count since Adventure for the NES didn't use his theme either and played the normal boss battle music instead. Every other Kirby game (except 64) still uses his original theme, including Squeak Squad for the DS which was the most recent.

Really, I guess I must have not been paying attention . The last Kirby games I beat were Nightmare in Dream Land and Canvas Curse, both used Gourmet Race for Dedede, so I just figured they got rid of the old one, good to know it is still around.

I have only one real request, which is simply one of the greatest themes in any Nintendo video game:
The "Black Hole Theme" from Advance Wars 2.
If we are counting Anime, which I'm sure we aren't, though... then "Red Hot Battlefield" from Pokémon would be my other choice.

Dammit, whenever I think of a music piece, and am about to post it in this thread, I scroll up and realise that Bill has already requested it. It happened with Phendrana Drifts and Dragon Roost Island this time. You have good taste
I do have one other to recommend, though. It's Challenge of the Bloody Chain from F-Zero GX. The music suits F-Zero so well - it gets your blood pumping in a tight race.. Would be awesome for SSBB.
Oh, and also, it's very short, but I love the original Metroid Prime's intro theme. Before I first played the game, I just sat there watching the clips over and over with the music in the background, soaking it in.

Metroid - Brinstar (just use the one from Melee, it's awesome) Mother - Battle 1 (used during such battles as the lamp battle) EarthBound - THIS (so perfectly insane) EarthBound - Dungeon Man! Really, almost anything from EB, as long as they're better than the Mother/EB music in Melee. Didn't really like any of those remixes. DKC2 - Mine! DKC2 - Ship Deck 2 (the upbeat rag take on the first level's theme) SMB3 Akihabara Electric Circus - Waterfront (very awesome remix!)

That would definatly be a great song for this game. But since we're on the subject of F-Zero, I demand that Climb Up And Get The Last Chance from F-Zero X be included. Seriously, that song rocks so damn hard, it'd be a perfect fit for an F-Zero stage as well.

Well, actually, if you look at the screenshot from the Dojo for the Bridge of Eldin's music, one of the selections IS the Dark World.
See:
From what Sakurai said, it sounds like the music will be added from all different time frames from the series. For those who have enjoyed the games for years, and those who have perhaps only played them recently.

i'll be honest i havent read thru the entire thread but how can you not specifically mention the Giygas battle theme!?!?!???!?????! thats by far THE SINGlE BEST VIDEO GAME COMPOSITION I'VE EVER HEARD. plus its the only SNES game i know of that uses a double bass pedal in the drums making it the most metal song on SNES

from the lil 8bit melody to the heavy metal, hell i wouldnt mind the noise either, that whole battle was just awesome and the music helped make it that good!
Edit: checked starmen.net for a music link and the main song i was thinking of is titled "pokey means business," not sure if thats their title or an official one but who cares!? the song rocks and for those who dont know it, do yourself a favor:

The rockin' opening Giygas theme would be awesome if it was paired with a suitably matching stage. Like the devil's machine. Or Belch's factory. Or maybe a cave with one of those big sparkles that indicated a Your Sanctuary boss.
Also, I want New Junk City from Earthworm Jim. It could happen!

It would be awesome to get some Contra music in there! since the chamber of getting one of those Contra guys in the game are slim, it would be cool if snake had an alt costume where he has his shirt off. Players wouldn't make the connection right away... Until a flying eagle-item-capsule-thing comes floating by! you hit it and snake gets a spread shot or a laser or [\insert favorite Contra weapon here] and he gets to do those little summersault jumps. Thats when you realize Snake would make an awesome 3rd guy in Contra

I really could see something like this happening. Konami likes to put music from some of there classic series as easter eggs in other games. I'd imagine when doing the music for Snakes stage someone from Konami might have recommended the idea to Sakurai.

Super Mario Bros 2 (released in Japan as the non-Mario "Doki Doki Panic" and later as "Super Mario USA," so they have no excuse) has some great music, and I hope some of it gets remixed nicely for Brawl.
Also, has anyone been able to confirm how "My Music" works? Are their stage-specific songlists, or can you use any song on any stage? I wonder because of things like that "X tunnel theme" which isn't from any game likely to be otherwise represented... although it could easily fit a Star Fox stage.
Assuming songs can be taken from any Nintendo game, I'd like to see a medley of the menu themes from EBA and/or the Ouendan series. Especially that Ouendan theme chant.

It sounded like My Music has a stage-specific list to choose from...As for "X", it could be anywhere really...Possibly Star Fox or Mr. Game & Watch or even the Wario Ware stage...

X will appear in a Star Fox level. In case anyone doesn't know, X was actually a precursor to the Star Fox series. It was developed by Argonaut and by the same people that would go on to develope the first Star Fox as well. Just like how Star Fox was ment to show off 3D in Super Nintendo games, X was used to show off 3D in Game Boy games.
Because of this strong connection between X and Star Fox there's no doubt the song will be in a Star Fox stage, most likely Lylat Cruise since X was about traveling through space as well.

One of the songs for the Mario Circuit level is called "Mario Tennis / Mario Golf." The theme song from the N64 Mario Golf was one of my favorite bits of game music ever, so that's awesome. People will be happy to see that the Dark World theme from LttP is in there. Lots of good songs.

And to break down the final soundtrack:
135 remixes (WOW) 38 original tracks 102 direct-to-disc tracks (30 of which are from Melee)
(The tally doesn't add up because I left off the WarioWare sound effect samples as well as the victory themes for each franchise...)
Absolutely incredible...

GREATEST SOUNDTRACK EVER!!!
Word just can't describe how incredible the music is. Just thinking about how they were able to make a soundtrack this amazing just blows my mind.
Except for the terrible selection of Sonic music. Sega deserves to be charged with war crimes for putting their mark of crappyness on this soundtrack. If I was Sakurai I would have pimp slapped whoever the representative from Sega was that offered this music and told him to come back with a list of music that's actually good.

This game is like OCremix, if everyone at OCremix was also a professional video game composer. The Tetris Theme is fantastic.

I am a bit disappointed that there's nothing from Galaxy (Assuming I'm not blind and missing it in that list). You'd think the Galaxy team could've sent over a track or two to plop in there, even if it was kinda late in Brawl's production...
That said, MAN, that's a lot of tracks.

Ironically, the one track from Jungle Beat that is in the game is the track RIGHT BEFORE Aerie Fortress... =(

What are you talking about? The narration at the beginning of the two Metroid songs is awesomely cheesy!

Interesting.
When I post, it posts at my local time, which is 4:52 AM.
However, I made those posts after IceCold/Homsar/Bill.
Odd.
Doubly weird because it says I'm the last post in the thread, but I'm technically not.

It simple, the servers clock when out of sync with the real world for about an hour making post made during that time have an off time stamp until a mod fixed it. Since the clock was a few hours ahead, the posts appears before the posts with off time stamps, and the "last to post" data probably doesn't look at it by time but by the last person to send "post data" showing who really posted last.
