Title: Fun with Numbers (General)
Post by: UncleBob on August 19, 2007, 11:28:37 AM
Well, as we all know, some large chain stores don't release their sales numbers (even on the individual store levels) for many reason. So, just for fun, I made up some numbers that might be very similar to the sales of a large retail store located in a small Midwestern state. Just thought it might be interesting to pretend what the sales for the last 52 weeks for the following systems were.
GBASP (all colors) - 60 GBm (all colors) - 61 Total GBA - 121
DS (all colors) - 160 GCN - 16 Wii -169
360 C - 8 360 P (all bundles) - 38 360 E - 3 Total 360 - 49
PSP C - 38 PSP E - 12 Total PSP - 50
PS3 20 gig - 13 PS3 60 gig - 32 Total PS3 - 42
PS2 (all colors) - 269
Just thought this might be kinda interesting. Now, in this interesting made up sales data that I made up, it's important to note that this doesn't count the fact that this made up store may possibly be continuously sold out of Wiis, sold out of PS3's during the launch period, sold out of DS's during last Christmas season, etc., etc... Also, the made up sales data may be off by a point or so, but it's pretty equally off by one, I'm sure.
Just thought I'd share.

Are you trying to say something or pick a fight? This isn't Funhouse.

In your opinion, how well would Wii software move in this hypothetical midwestern store?
Also, are you serious? GBA > PS3 + X360?

Ceric - no, I'm just playing with numbers. It's interesting to look at this data, but since stores do not give out this kind of information and if an employee was to, say, compile and post such information, they could be fired. So, since we don't have real information to work with, I'm just making up some numbers that I think represent what a small, midwestern store's sales data might be. But, again, it may be off by a point. Equally. Hypothetically.
Kairon - That would take a lot more... err... hypothesizing... I can say that, with my made up experience, of course, that PSP and PS3 software doesn't sell much at all. In this hypothetical store, Wii software probably moves better than most 360 software, except for when something like Madden comes out. GBA/GCN software doesn't move too much, because, honestly, my hypothetical store just doesn't carry that much anymore. DS and PS2 software pretty much top the charts. Hypothetically, of course.
I remember when the PS3/Wii were released. It was pretty easy to keep track of hypothetical sales, but I will make up that we didn't sell a single PS3 title during the launch week (not even Resistance!) but our Wii software sales were about 2:1, not including Wii Sports. Now I just made all that up though.
Anywhoo, Yeah, the GBA sales is pretty amazing (considering the hypothetical lack of GBA software carried by this made up store). The PS2 sales are pretty high as well, PS2 +4 > PSP + PS3 + 360 + GCN + GBA. Some one should fix up one of those fancy pie charts.
