Even the Gamecube wasn't THIS pathetic. I mean, the GC didn't have as many games, nor as many *great games* as PS2 or Xbox, but it did have some awesome multiplayer games like Smash Bros. which meant very little dust collectage.

oh come on guys. PS3 will keep on truckin. I just picked one up yesterday and so far I can't be happier with it. At least unlike Xbox owners, i'm resonably sure that my system will still be working in a month...

I believe the PS3 will have a better second year than first, and eventually will catch on in the market.
The only problem is that the uphill battle it will face when it finally begins to catch on (after another or several price cuts) will be too great to overcome. And it will be pushing hard into next generation territory before it makes a huge impact on the market.
The best the PS3 can do next year is what the Wii has done THIS year...but by then the Xbox 360 and Wii will have already surpassed that. Who knows where the Wii will be late this year and into next year. Afterall, the Wii has been selling without games for awhile. Now that great games are coming out throughout the year it is going to be madness.
Blu-Ray is the wildcard. Sony bet that they could make Blu-Ray popular and the format of choice by including it in the PS3. And with retailers that worked. Retailers are backing more and more on Blu-Ray and not HD-DVD, and I am willing to bet the retailers faith in the PS3 and Sony brand name helped. But the consumers haven't chosen the PS3 or Blu-Ray yet really. And it is leading many analyists to predict that unless Blu-ray becomes market dominate that the PS3 will not become the leader again. It is a catch 22, because Blu-Ray was banking on the PS3's success to become popular, and now the PS3 is banking on the success of Blu-Ray to become popular.

Now that I doubt, unless the price drops to the level of the 360 by next year... and considering Sony recently dropped the price... only to raise it right back up again with more features, this doesn't seem to be a large priority of their's. All signs point to them still trying to recoup costs the best they can off of a system that they are still losing money on by the truck loads.
The price will drop, it has to, but not fast enough for me to see it "catching on".

The PS3 will be third this generation, there is no avoiding that at this stage.

The best the PS3 can do next year is what the 360 has done this year, IMO. I don't see it selling as well as Wii is right now.
There is no doubt in my mind that PS3 sales will pick up; however, there is also no doubt on my part that their market share is going to bleed even further as both the Wii and 360 will continue to out pace the PS3.

PS3 needs more than a price drop, it needs some good games as well, and so far it hasn't delivered much in that area.

There's lots of good games. I don't own or have any interest in owning an Xbox360 so all the cross platform games are perfect for me. Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, call of duty, rainbow 6: vegas, darkness, etc. Not to mention Resistance, and the upcoming slew of exclusive and cross platform games.

Not mention that a few of those games are pulled off better on 360, my point is that there really is not much reason to own a PS3 unless you want a bluray player.
