Title: Anyone here have talent?
Post by: Smash_Brother on July 25, 2007, 05:30:21 AM
No, not THAT kind of talent. Put your pants back on.
Anyone here particularly good at drawing concept art for freaky looking alien-types, specifically flying ones?
I don't know if anyone does this as a hobby, but if you have anything you could either scan or direct me to, I'd definitely appreciate it.
Why do I need this? I have a 3D modeler buddy who finds having concept art before he models something helps leaps and bounds for creating stuff like this and he needs to make some.

Any parameters on these freaky looking flying alien types? If he's doing this for a game or cartoon, I would think he would want a consistency of style too match the enviroment and the rest.

I can juggle!
And I can play the Euphonium.
And conduct.
And I can act.
I'm not that bad at video games, either.
Oh, you don't want my talent? Ok... I guess I'll just move along

I'd think that anything flying and freaky looking would suffice, but insect-like would be a plus.

Haven't seen much that flies in the game.

That's because the Wii can't handle flying bugs. Guess you'll just have to wait for the PS3 port.

I almost made a comment about how most people here probably weren't wearing pants to begin with.

If I have a moment in the day I might see what I can do, but seeing how I am:
-Currently Making my flash schmup game entitled Project L.O.L -Working on a 30 second 3d animation short -Designing my own Website -Working on a video game design document's artwork
I might not but I get bored in the day from doing so much hw so perhaps I can whip something up. Are we talking about cute aliens or Gritty ones like from Alien.

What about a space pirate? They're freaky but they fight dirty

Space Pirates fly? Well, I guess a few do in Metroid Prime, but with the help with a rocket pack.
Edit: Here's a quickie. About 45 minutes went into it:
If this helps you, I have a favor for you to help me
That's well done, for sure, but I was looking for something that looks less civilized and humanoid. He could probably use that for one design in particular, but right now, we need bug types which are more "monstrous". Like zerg, the alien from Alien, something generally unsettling to look at (the more unsettling the better).
What did you need, by the way?

Showed it to the modeler: he loves it. If you can complete it, I'd appreciate it.

To continue with the "talent" theme, anyone here ever worked with the Torque Gaming Engine before or have any solid experience with it?

Let me guess, you will be looking for musicians and programmers in the future.

I'm a makeshift musician, so no.
But Torque experience generally denotes some manner of programming experience.

The creature known by some as the furball of death may look harmless - but don't be fooled! He's as deadly as he is pink. Should he ever set his beady eyes upon you, your death will surely follow soon after.

I'm going to have my 3D modeler turn that into something hideous. Just you watch.

here is another shot of Furball of Death
Title: RE:Anyone here have talent?

Woke up this morning and decided to take a crack at it...
Keep in mind its crappy as all hell.
I call it:
The creature was inspired by "Mothra", a giant Moth that appeared on SB's backyard a couple of summers ago.
Its an electric type Pokemon, I mean alien creature. The tips of the wings shoot electricity bolts. The lines and the blue dots are random bits of energy flowing throughout the wings.
It doesn't beat Furball of Death, that's for sure.

Here is my take on a flying terrifying alien sort of creature, done in Flash. Sorry if its not realistic I have been experimenting in this style for the past few months.

I love it! Don't even worry about it not being realistic, concept art doesn't need to look real it just needs to show an idea. Just look at the art work we see for Pixar movies they never look any where near realistic to what we see in the movies. Also you saw what I did with the furball of death.
Anyway, great work I love the style. Keep it up.
