Here is what I think they are! and why!

So it's a link to your blog to hear what you think are the 8 "biggest Wii games of 2007"... while you aren't even listing them here to even try to mask that this is nothing more than a shameless and overt plug? That's just awesome.

Anyway, list fails for lack of Godzilla : Unleashed

Also, "Need wii need more." is a pretty lame "why" for Smash Bros... it deserves more say than that, hell all of them do.

My list in no particular order:

1. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
2. Mario Strikers Charged!
3. Battalion Wars 2
4. Super Mario Galaxy
5. Super Smash Bros. Brawl
6. Guitar Hero III
7. No More Heroes
8. Dewy's Adventure

-----------------------------------------

9. NiGHTS
10. Zak and Wiki
11. RE: UC
12. Endless Ocean
13. Wii Fit (if it happens this year)

My List and simple reasons why...also in no particular order.

1)Mario Strikers:  The first truly online Wii game.  (Pokemon doesn't count.)
2)Metroid Prime 3:  Finishes out a triology, but proves FPS controls can be accomplished on the Wii successfully.
3)Medal of Honor Heroes 2:  First third party online game FPS 32 players is big.  Hopefully it plays well.
4)Super Mario Galaxy:  It is a Mario game it will be big...Nintendo needs this game for Nintendo fans and gamers.
5)Smash Bros. Brawl:  Nintendo's fighting game always draws huge sales world wide.  Possible Online.
6)Battalion Wars 2:  Possibly online, but most importantly is a relatively new IP for Nintendo getting support.

Now the list gets hard.  Do you comment on Endless Ocean being the only extended audience game not released yet?  I do...but I also feel it is important to mention 3rd party titles coming out.

7)FIFA 2007:  I know why not Madden 2007?  I think simply because FIFA is truly going beyond just porting the game to the Wii...but creating new modes to play, has online, and creating the new casual gamer controls could be a huge success.  However if you like, you can replace FIFA here with Madden.

8)Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles:  More than any other game, developers will be looking at the success to this game to judge if mature titles can be sold on the Wii.  With Wii Zapper support Nintendo and Capcom both should have a great winner...lets hope it sells well so we can get more Resident Evil and Capcom games.

Honorable Mentions/ 9-12

9)Endless Ocean:  For what I mentioned above.
10) Godzilla:  It is a freaking Godzilla game and I love them.
11)Guilty Gear:  A 2D fighter is something important to have to fillout niche games and such.
12)Rayman Raving Rabbids 2:  The first sequel to the Wii?  How will it sell, what is the potential for series success?

sorry i didn't just list em here, i spent a lot of time messing with blogger code and image cropping, trust me, im not trying to spam my blog, im making nothing from doing that. I  also put it together last night at 2am, so the writing is meh. I understand what shyguy is saying, im still going to wait for the review before i pick up Alien Syndrom, but i had fun playing xmen with my friends so i have hopes for it, just a TAD bit more hope for that then i do Godzilla, thats why I didn't add Zilla.

Your list is a very good list, and I didn't mind clicking it to read it.

Honestly there weren't too many surprises on your list, but I would spend more time fleshing out your reasons.

Alien Syndrome may be great but just saying 4 player multiplayer won't do it for me...afterall there are several multiplayer games coming out this year.

I also question Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga.  Will it be  a great game that I want to play.  Yes...I never bought the other two.  But, it is still just a port of two older games...I can't put it on the biggest games of 07, because I don't see it having a huge impact on the market.  It will just be a fun game to play.

Which is why I threw in Medal of Honor and EA Sports...because they have a wide spread market appeal, online, and are 3rd party which is important.

In fact, almost all of my list includes multiplayer games, are Nintendo exclusive, or have exclusive content for Nintendo.

Ax Lego Star Wars and add Dewy's Adventures.  I really don't see what anyone saw in that series.  Maybe get rid of RE:UC and put Godzilla there.  I'm sort of torn on that one.  Also Zak and Wiky and Space Tycoon are Wild cards as well.

Is this a poll?

Aside from obvious first party games...

I think one game, a third party one most everyone is forgetting is My Sims... it's a very significant effort on EA's part and is there effort to expand their audience to japan and elsewhere. For example, I showed their trailer to someone who was "eh" on the sims and he loved the charm it had!

Other third party games you guys seem to be overlooking are the very important ports of DDR (without the mario retooling) and guitar hero 3. The sales of these franchises and their attraction to an expanded audience make them VERY significant games this fall, and very IMPORTANT to have on the Wii. Playing Air Guitar and Dancing are things that the Wii should be ALL ABOUT.

And of course... I have to give a shoutout for Boogie, for which I am tres excited!

Other games to watch include Capcom's third party games to see whether sales can convince them for further support, Majesco's Blast Works to see whether indie projects can leapfrog to a friendly Wii environment (see also: de Blob from THQ), Ubisoft's Word Coach as possibly the first example of a third party doing the "Brain Age" thing well, and Mario & Sonic to see if the mascots can survive Sega's infamous development teams. And of course, Alien Syndrome and Space Station Tycoon to see what smaller teams can accomplish on the Wii, and Dewy's Adventure to see if it can convince Konami to start supporting the Wii with more than one token dev team.

Also, No More Heroes. Don't forget this one. Please buy it in droves.

My 2 cents of what a Top 8 looks like for this Fall in the order that I crave them:

(1)  Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
(2)  Super Mario Galaxy
(3)  Zack and Wiki
(4)  Super Smash Bros. Brawl
(5)  Madden NFL '08
(6)  Battalion Wars 2
(7)  Rockstar's Table Tennis
(8)  Wii Fit (if Nintendo can pull it out by year's end...this game is the killer app for this generation...and would put Nintendo out in front for good if they can get it out by before the Holiday's.  If I'm Iwata, I'm having these guys work double time to get this game done.

Honorable Mention:
Guitar Hero 3, FIFA '08, Super Mario Strikers Charged, and that Endless Ocean game.

Winter can mean anytime between December and March, so it could be here in 07 still.

1. Super Smash Bros. Brawl
I've loved the SSB series since the moment I first played it, and SSBM turned that love into obsession. I can't wait to take on new characters with other new characters in all the new levels.

2. No More Heroes
Killer7 is my second favorite game of all time. And, being by Suda51, this game is shaping up to be a worthy successor to it, even if it's not a sequel.

3. Mario Strikers Charged
I never did buy the first Mario Strikers, but I have played it, and I absolutely love it. Online play and even more options make this a definite purchase for me.

4. Battalion Wars 2
I looked forward to this game for a while before its release, but due to financial issues, I didn't pick it up until it was ten dollars at Gamestop. Lucky thing, because it wasn't worth fifty. However, it was intensely fun. The addition of multiplayer combined with Wiimote aiming means I'll be picking this up as soon as possible.

5. Mario Galaxy
I'm still kind of reeling from the disappointment that was Super Mario Sunshine. But this seems to clean up in all the right places. I might not buy it at launch, but I'll definitely get it sometime.

Anyway, time to complete the cycle:

1. Super Smash Bros Brawl
- God damn I love this franchise. Melee is my favorite game of all time, so I have very high hopes for the next entry. My demand is feverish, considering how long it has been since the last.

2. Godzilla: Unleashed
- Toho fanboy, if it wasn't already apparent. Very eager to get some more multiplayer action in on the Wii, and have been highly anticipating this game ever sense the in game movies were released.

3. Mario Galaxy
- The planet aspect of this title simply fascinates me. Just watching the videos has always made me really crave the chance to just get behind the controller and test it out.

4 - Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
5 - Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
6 - Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

I wonder how many hours MP3 will be.
My Sims looks decent, but i doubt it will have any net play, making it almost as fun as watching fish.
Dewy looks pretty, but i wonder how deep it will be. reminds me of elebits which was fun, but not really engaging, no character development.
Zack and Wiki can be good as well, as long as its nice and long with a lot of challenges.
Bully should be awesome and so should ping pong.
I need a job =o(

I can think of 6 games I am definitely going to get in 2007

1. Super Smash Bros Brawl
2. Super Mario Galaxy
3. Metroid Prime 3
4. Guitar Hero III
5. DBZ: TB 3 (online and with Japanese VA's? sure why not!)
6. Guilty Gear XX Accent Core (I just love guilty gear, dunno if it will be out in 07 though, should be since it just came out in Japan)

Games I am interested in and will probably get rented:

Endless Ocean, Zack and Wiki, and No More Heros. Oh and BWII.

1. Super Mario Galaxy

I don't care if it makes me a commie, Galaxy is shaping up to be Game of the Year. The more I see the more I love, the return of costume powerups is great (fingers crossed for at least a cameo for the Tanooki suit). The gravity mechanic is interesting and fresh, they seem to have implemented one of the best parts of Sunshine: the straightforward get-to-the-goal warp zone levels, and to top it off looks spectacular and hopefully will shut up some people saying the Wii can't do good graphics (I know it won't, but I can dream).

2. Super Smash Bros. Brawl

While I don't think it's possible for the game to live up to the endless supply of hype, I do think it's going to be amazingly good and significantly better than the greatness that was Melee. The daily updates may not all be good, but the ones that are (like today's, I was just thinking the other day that it would be cool if you could damage someone by jumping on them like in the Mario games and here it is in a way that makes gameplay sense. I suppose I should make another wish and see if it comes true. How about a Mushroom Kingdom III in the vein of Mushroom Kingdom II in Brawl; desgined after Super Mario 3 with various enemies from that game).

3. Battalion Wars II

I had always meant to pick up the original, but before I did I saw the announcement for a Wii sequel and decided to wait. Several key improvements, such as naval units, the Wii remote controls being naturally better for certain strategy elements, and, here's the big one, online multiplayer. Being the second (and hopefully not last) first-party Wii game this year with Wi-Fi play (we shall never speak of Pokemon Battle Revolution again, and Strikers isn't on my list because it comes out in less than a week, I already have it pre-ordered and paid for).

4. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

The controls seem perfect in every preview I've read. That, along with what sounds like an epic and immersive story has me sold (literally, I just put down a preorder last night).

5. Guitar Hero III

I played the first two at a friend's house and knew immediately I needed the game. I would have bought it for the PS2, but then they announced this for the Wii so I put it off.

6. Geometry Wars: Galaxies

I've heard so much about how great the XBLA game is, and this heavily expanded version and it's Wii-specific controls excite me.

7. Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles

I just got RE4 and I absolutely love it. I almost passed it up completely as I wasn't a fan of the series, then everyone constantly calling it one of the best games ever made me try it. I'm glad I did, the game is amazing. I did not expect to like it anywhere close to how much I like it. I couldn't possibly play it on the GC, my first experience was with the Wii version and it has spoiled me in a way that I don't think I could aim with an analog stick again. Umbrella Chronicles will let me learn the backstory, and I've been itching for a light gun game. I don't know if it will work well with the Zapper, but I'll definitely shell out the $20 for the thing as long as the bundled game is a new Duck Hunt, preferably with the original included.

8. MySims

I am not ashamed to admit that I enjoy the PC Sims games, but most console offerings so far haven't been very good (though I really enjoyed The Urbz on the DS). This game is being built for the Wii, and looks good. Yeah, it's an Animal Crossing ripoff, but they chose a good game to ripoff, and Nintendo isn't giving us AC til next year, and it does one important (at least to me) thing that Animal Crossing doesn't: it lets the player actually build buildings. In fact it encourages and sometimes requires this, and the interface for it seems really interesting, something Nintendo should return the favor and rip off from EA for the Wii AC.

Honorable Mentions:

Fire Emblem, which would be on the list if I didn't have the GBA ones that I want to beat at least one of before I get the Wii one

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, which could be really good if Sega doesn't screw it up like they always do (at least we know Miyamoto has some role in it, overseeing and the like), motion controls can make these kinds of things more fun than button mashing ever could and if they do the hinted-at 1:1 fencing and it works its an instant must-buy

The Simpsons Game, I'm a huge fan of the series, and what I've read about the game suggests that it is genuinely funny with good writing; they didn't let the press play it at E3 so I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much

Space Station Tycoon, I love the genre, and the quirky sense of humor seems like it would make a fun game

LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga, I always meant to play these the first time around, and this looks to save me some money by putting them both in one

Madden NFL 08, Madden 07 was in my opinion the best example of Wii Controls at launch. EA seems to actually be trying with this, and has promised to tighten up the controls even more, add some Wii-specific modes, and it will be the first third-party online game for the Wii

Insanolord you could save even more money by not buying LEGO Star Wars.  Its a 3D platformer that looks really nice and has some comedy but, in general I found both the games to be not very good and one broke my PS2.  I lot of people disagree with me here, like NSMB.  I'm sure this game is a lot better Coop though.
Title: RE: 8 Biggest Wii games of 07
Post by: NWR_insanolord on July 26, 2007, 05:46:24 AM
I have no intention of just buying it; I would definitely rent it first. There's probably no way I'd get around to it anyway, I have a list with games I want between now and the end of the year, and I'm still adding to it, especially on the DS side, and I have 16 Wii games (plus Stirkers and Metroid that I've already pre-ordered) and about 10 on the DS sidel; I could have had a lot more honorable mentions but my post was long enough as it is.

HOORAY for third party love! You're my kind of Nintendo fan Insanolord!

And yeah, I can see why Lego Star Wars is lauded, because if you're a star wars fan and if you play co-op it's a pretty decent time. Without those extra benefits though...

I SOOO get what you're saying Insanolord. I've got a spreadsheet that I use to budget my game purchases and I've got *blanches* TWENTY SEVEN WII GAMES I'm looking to buy this fall! GOOD GRIEF!!!!

Yeah I seem to be a bit different from the normal Nintedo fan. I have 30+ each on DS and GameCube, and more than half on each are third-party, and 8 of my 12 (non Wii Sports) Wii games so far are 3rd party. 14 of the 23 releases for the rest of this year that are currently on my list are third-party. I have no idea where all this money is going to come from. At least I won't be able to put too much more into the Virtual Console, which I've already spent about $280 on because now I have only slightly higher than 100 blocks left on my Wii, so I can maybe funnel some of what would have gone to that into new stuff (this won't happen, there is no way to stop me from spending all my money on the VC).

Kairon, you mentioned how you use to live in Vancouver, BC. May I asked why you left?

Dad lost his job, but he was lucky enough to find a job in the U.S. (and a greencard! Yay! I'm an immigrant!)

All this Guitar Hero popularity makes me wish Nintendo would make another Daigasso! Band Brothers game, even if they don't release them in the U.S. I would just import it.  Heck give me another expansion cartridge.

For me...

1. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games - A historic crossover, three fantastic licences (Olympics, Mario, Sonic), tons of great characters, numerous events to choose from (over 20 according to Gamespot)
2. Super Smash Brothers Brawl - Looks epic and awesome from the trailers and the always-nifty daily updates. Could be the best fighting game of this generation, IMO.
3. Super Mario Galaxy - Hype really went up for me when I saw how much more Mario64-esque it was and less Sunshine-like. Could be a million-seller.
4. MySims - The depth of the creativity and customization features is just incredible. Couple that with a much more fun and cute look than regular Sims!
5. Madden NFL '08 - Online play, 22 Mini-Games, Mii features, telestrator plus all of the modes and awesome motion controls from '07 PLUS improved graphics.
6. Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga - I've played but do not own either game, and this looks awesome with motion controls, new levels and features plus improved graphics.
7. Rockstar Presents Table Tennis (2007?) - The 360 game looked awesome, and Table Tennis was always fun to watch in the Olympics. Should rock with motion controls.
8. Thrillville: Off the Rails - Always loved the Roller Coaster Tycoon games on PC and have waited for one for a Nintendo console. Not quite the same, naturally, but the new features and mini-games should really propel it to coolness.

Honorable Mentions:
Carnival Games (I know--but it has skeeball and I'm a sucker for those "dreaded" mini-game collections)
FIFA '08 (Soccer and Online Play!)
My Word Coach (My whole family loves word games and this should be interesting)
Namco Museum Remix (I've had an eye for this collection since it was announced)
NBA Live 08 (Online play and Basketball!)
Power Rangers: Super Legends (Has the ability to play as classic MMPR Rangers)
Smartypants (2007?) (A trivia game--cool)

If Mario & Sonic has the 1:1 fencing Miyamoto suggested, I'd have it in my 8, but not quite number 1. I think a million is a pretty low estimate, if Galaxy is as good as it seems it should do quite a bit better than that. My main question: do you have a link to where they confirmed Live to be online? In what I've read it wasn't talked about like they talk about it in Madden and FIFA, but since it's in that it seems likely, though I haven't seen it actually confirmed.

Look, a list!  Be quiet, or you may scare it away:

1. Super Mario Galaxy
2. Super Smash Bros. Brawl
3. Space Station Tycoon (although I need review confirmation of awesomeness before I commit)
4. BWii
5. Guilty Gear
6. Metroid Prime III
7. Zack and Wiki (Maybe...it's not exactly my kind of game)
8. Guitar Hero III

Honorable Mentions:
Rayman Raving Rabbids 2
Dewy's Adventure
Fire Emblem

No problem! Here you go. Here's a quote of the important portion from  IGN's Wii Site:

Quote

Where NBA Live 08 really sold us, however, was in the online portion of the package. Details are still pretty sparse due to the game's level of completion, but EA did share an interesting note with us. NBA Live 08 supports console vs. console play, which means up to eight players can go online and face off against each other. Since there are only two Wii systems connecting, EA treats it as a "team vs. team" situation, so you can play online with either one, two, three, or four controllers supported on each console. There were also rumblings that once connected, consoles could actually change players on each team; so you could go online with a group and then trade players pre-game and do a little mixed online competition. We'll wait to see that one in practice, but according to EA it's entirely plausible. Regardless, four-on-four online is confirmed, so get your teams ready, organize tournaments on the message boards, and kick a little butt via eight player online.

NBA Live 08 IGN Pre-E3 07 Preview

Hope that helps!

Very cool. I wonder if they'll add a way with the co-op so if say it's 3 on 3, the actual game will be 3 on 3, and you won't have to have any CPU controlled players, that would be great. Thanks for the response!

That sounds like something they'll save for the next NBA street.

Yeah I thought of that while I was typing it. It does seem like the EA thing to do, doesn't it. Oh well, I probably won't get around to Live anyway, and I'll have to stretch just to fit Madden in. I have to have Madden, it's the only way in which my Browns can have a successful season...

Your a Browns fan too huh?

My friend was up until this coming season. He hates Notre Dame and thus hates the Browns new quarterback (even if he doesn't start this season).
