Question:

I have my second day of class today which happens to land on 11-2 central time.  Do you think it would be worth it to skip my 2nd day of class to watch the streaming video.  Will Ign have it up tonight so I can watch it?  Also my internet has been very VERY glitchy and slow with flash video.  So maybe I should take that into consideration?

Darkheart:  Don't skip class for this one.  If it was last years I say oh yeah.  This year.  Isn't going to be nearly as exciting and you said you connection was glitchy to boot so you probably be better served watching it later when its not truly streamed.

Now thats a lie .  If any previous E3s indicate, the streaming press will be shown followed up by reporters everywhere posting news updates and whatnot all day.  The video file of the conference usually doesnt hit the web until late at night :/  Oh well I guess thats me being spoiled with instant gratification from the Web

I hope the Nintendo conference doesn't fall into the same trap as the 360 one.  E3 is just to late.  I think thats why we aren't all that excited.  By now must developers have announced their rest of the year offerings and were are going out of the traditional drought and free time.

Apparently, the software that they use doesn't have a mac version. It says you can e-mail them to get what I assume is some sort of beta for a mac version, but I'd rather just find somewhere else.

Title: RE: Nintendo E³ 07 Press Conference MegaThread
Post by: Ian Sane on July 11, 2007, 06:28:06 AM
Is Wii Fit the new Miyamoto game?  A damn excercise game.  Hey all the games that are worth a damn this E3 are sequels and aside from Mario Kart (which everyone knew was coming eventually) none of them are new!  No we're not neglecting hardcore gamers.  Not at all.

When I want to excercise I get on my damn bike.  I play games when I DON'T want to excercise.  What's next?  Wii Work?  Wii School?  Wii Chores?  This is pretty much the E3 I expected from Nintendo.  They very blatantly don't give two sh!ts about the people that made them a success in the first place if they can get the mainstream money.  They've become EA.

The problem is I still want to get a Wii for the handful of games I want for it, but I don't want anything else revealed thus far.  At this rate I'll be lucky to find five games I really want but these will be five games I REALLY want.  Nintendo are f*cking evil geniuses.  They know exactly the bare minimum attention they have to give to their old fans to get a purchase.

Pac-Man Vs. is no longer the least interesting game to get the most focus at a Nintendo conference.

I didn't hear anything about SSB Brawl being online.  Should we assume that mean it isn't?  If it isn't I'm not that interested.  It's really just "more SSB" without it.  I'd probably buy it used years later when it's cheap.  The fact that they mentioned Mario Kart being online suggests that if SSB was as well they would have said so.

I thought it was a so-so show, but that's what I was expecting.

Wii Fit sounds interesting (couldn't see the video feed) and was a good conclusion...it has the potential to keep the system selling out for another year.

The brief Mario Kart announcement was nice.

Everything else was pretty much known or not that interesting.  I guess the Wii Zapper is cool....maybe there was a lot of silent game footage that I just didn't get to see, but I was hoping for more of that.

All that said, I think Nintnedo has rightfully stopped talking about games years in advance.  Focus on this year's games, tell us about Animal Crossing and whatever next year.

[carrying from Kairon's post, the Wii fitness board could be implemented as  ]

and drum pedals,
and a spinning sidestep dodge in a FPSlasher
and probably a method of controlling a marble-madness type puzzler
and this will make the next WarioWii title absolutely dazzling

WiiFit supports multiple players, it just isn't strong enough to support them all at the same time, at least, it isn't if they're Reggie's size.

Yeah, it seems one player at a time, but that's not a bad thing, IMO.  They should let multiple people workout if you want to buy more Wii dance pads.

I'm pretty sure Reg and Shiggy were on two different units.  They used the same Balance Boards that the fitness trainers used eariler - which semmed to be connected to different Wii units as well.

Additionally, there didn't seem to be anything showing the opponent's score on your screen - which, if it were some kind of LAN, you'd think that would be there.
Title: RE: Nintendo E³ 07 Press Conference MegaThread
Post by: Michael8983 on July 11, 2007, 07:16:12 AM
Just watch Wii Fitness out-sell Mario, Metroid, and Brawl combined. Don't underestimate the non-gamers and their big wallets.
I thought for sure we'd get an official announcement of a Wii Sports 2 or Wii Music though. I mean either would be a guaranteed HUGE seller among non-gamers who seem to love any game with the word "Wii" in the title.

I'm all for a new Warioware using the Balance Board but I'd rather not see it integrated into FPSs and other traditional titles. I mean there's nothing wrong with SITTING DOWN and playing a video game.

Title: RE: Nintendo E³ 07 Press Conference MegaThread
Post by: Stimutacs Addict on July 11, 2007, 07:28:36 AM
but you could play sitting down and just use them as pedals to take cover around corners

EXAMPLE: you are walking along the side of a building and plan on taking a right at the corner. apply some weight to the right side of the board and continue holding pressure. this will keep you close to the wall, mkay? when you want
to peek out, put your left foot down gently( like really gently if you drive an automobile you can relate )
to swing out swiftly, put some weight into it. your character will swing out
to release from the wall, lift your right toe/heel and you're free to go.

EDIT2: when i sit down and play to win, i always lean forward. i suppose then if they offered strafing through left/right foot pressure in an fps, i'd be all over that

well, there's a new Spiderman game coming out... Nintendo should nag Activison to add that option, because, you know, would be AWESOME...

Okay, I just downloaded and re-watched the WiiFit video.  It does not show *any* two player modes.

In fact, it shows a bit where one guy is playing the dance/step game while his wife (?) is standing beside him dancing about for no good reason.

WiiFit=Single Player?

Yeah the WiiFit Pad has tons of options and in game uses.

1)Realistic Snowboard/Skateboard controls.
2)FPS additional controls.  Like put pressure to peak around corners.
3)Dance Pad
4)In combination with Wii Sports 2 something to allow manipulation of players and such.
5)Track and Field type games
6)Racing Gas and Brake controls
7)Mech robot controls along with the Wiimote and nunchuk.

ect, ect...

People that look at WiiFit and don't see the potential for great games saddens me because they have no imagination.

I'm glad somebody mentioned this.  WiiFit and everything is nice and cool.  Mario Kart Wii, that's cool.  But this game.  Seriously.  This is the game that will push Wii up into the upper echelons with previous Nintendo consoles.  I cannot express how purely excited I am for this game.  It seems like the game I've been waiting for all my life.  This sounds weird, but I've actually always wanted to play a game where you move across tiny individual planets (even before I read Le Petit Prince; I have a strange obsession with them), and aside from that pure conceptual notion all the details are incredible.  My heart leapt when I saw Mario crossing the moving platforms with the geometric shapes cut out of them.  It's a game I've envisioned playing since childhood, and it's finally here.  I can't wait to sit down early one morning and spend all day playing it.

So you busted a nut as well huh?

Anyway, Time Crisis IV better come out for the Wii now. They don't have to make any hardware for this to work perfectly. Come'on just announce it already!

"People that look at WiiFit and don't see the potential for great games saddens me because they have no imagination."

Maybe Nintendo could have debuted the pad with a cooler game.  Those ideas you mentioned are cool as hell but Nintendo's big idea is an exercise game.  If they debuted it with something like you mentioned I would be incredibly excited.  Actually my apathy towards the remote and the touchscreen is similar.  Both times Nintendo failed to really wow me with their first idea which kind of suggests that maybe they can't come up with something better.  The analog stick however immediately won me over because the first game they showed for it was this unbelieably amazing game that just blew my mind.

Though the issue is whether Nintendo can't think of something better or this is just what they've chosen to make.

I  hope I've notice I'm overusing a lot that word, which just isn't a good thing that they reveal some trailer of some actual game in these days, like they did past E3 with Brawl, which wasn't shown at the conference.

Oh, I guess the new trailers of Mario Galaxy, Endless Ocean, Prime 3, and Fire Emblem don't count?

endless ocean? that diving game? I have to see that, I was really interested on that game since it was first shown!

Its not that bee mario wasn't awesome, because he really was, but the rest was underwhelming and I can't like at all that Metroid and Brawl seem secondary to a fitness sim for Nintendo, not that I don't see why this is the case.

I was exactly like you mantidor, except a generation ago. Let's hope that Galaxy isn't for you what Sunshine was to me.

Edit: Oh wait, you're not complaining about Mario. Silly me.

Also I forgot this E3 isn't the show it used to be, so companies will only put their biggest guns, leaving no room for those little gems past E3s had.

How so?

E3 was made smaller, but only in who gets invited. In fact, it's more likely that they'll have more games since their are less people (thus allowing everyone to play every game).

I guess you are right...

Also I think Kairon misunderstood me, I did like Galaxy, I loved it, but it was the only thing I loved. I think my english failed me again.

edit: bah you and your ninja edits.

edit 2: ok add to Galaxy Endless Ocean, that was amazing!

"I can't like at all that Metroid and Brawl seem secondary to a fitness sim for Nintendo"

You know, maybe if the games were mediocre I could see your point, but Galaxy, Prime 3, and Brawl are all gunning to be the best of their prospective series...

(And before some Metroid fan bites my head off, I mean the Prime series of course...)

Just my opinion of the press conference:

1. I was not a fan of Super Mario Sunshine (though I'm considering buying it again just to have), but Super Mario Galaxy looks to totally crush it in every possible way. The more I see of it, the more excited I get. True sequel to Mario 64 indeed.

2. I'll probably buy Wii Fit. I don't think it should have been Nintendo's big reveal of the show, but I like the idea and it has potential in other games. I can just imagine using it as gas/brake pedals along with the steering wheel in Mario Kart. I know my mom would love it and isn't that the whole point?

It's the price that makes me skeptical. I would buy it, but I don't know if the non-gamer will bite strictly because of the likely more than $50 price tag.

3. No new DS model? The game collector inside me is a little upset because I know a redesign is coming since this is Nintendo. The regular gamer, though, is perfectly fine with this.

4. No hard drive for Wii? I'm not terribly upset about it. I really just want to know how Nintendo is going to address the the internal memory restrictions. I expect Wii Ware to be big and I already know some people who are running out of the 512MB.

5. A lot of emphasis on expensive peripherals that no one really needs. That was one thing I was concerned with when Nintendo announced the Wii remote and mentioned add-ons. I'm still waiting for the camera... and a Mario Artist Wii series.

It was an okay press conference. Nothing too amazing.

Yeah, I'm buying Wii Fit but it certainly will be pricey for the non-gamer crowd. I think it'll be testing the limits of their price flexibility. Wii Sports is selling big in Japan for $40, but this is America, this is Exercising, and this'll likely cost more.

Wii Fit will be huge, its going to push systems more than brain age did for DS.

Brain Age was $20. That's the big difference.

But in the States people always want the next new big thing that'll make then lose weight. Sure its not like one of those pills everyone wants as an easy solution but it can become the new yoga or taibo: a fad work out thats fun to do so people won't be intimidated to try it.

papers and news shows always talk about the “wii diet” and the people that went out and bought a wii for themselves and/or their kids to lose weight will want to buy this. They spent $250 on the wii itself, is it really hard to imagine them spending another $50?

It only seems like alot to pay cuz we're gamers, the non-gamers won't see it that way

Man, you're the only one who almost wants this game as much as I do. I would trade away every single game coming up for the Wii just for Super Mario Galaxy.. I'm a certified Mario platformer whore, but just looking at those videos gives me that feeling that only Super Mario Bros and Super Mario 64 have given me before.

Just replace Super Mario Bros, with SMB3 and I'd agree!

Well, I've said it before.. SMB is my favourite game of all time for sentimental reasons, followed by SM64, but if you take the emotion out of it, I might concede that SMB3 is the best Mario game ever.

It is kind of odd how emotion plays into things, personally I never had much emotional attachment to SMB, it is a great revolutionary game that I did enjoy but it PALES in comparison to the magic I got from SMB3.

BTW, lol @ Reggies claim that the Wii was sold out worldwide for the whole time. On the same day I saw an offer where you'd get a free Wii with some cellphone contract. Wiis were a bit short during the first few weeks but now there's piles of them everywhere.

Uh...what?

In New York *at least on long island* all the places such as target, gamestop, best buy, etc are always sold out of Wiis.

Whenever I got to buy a game or other item while I'm at the store I ask them how goes the Wii sales and they say it's just insane how it's still selling out. Soooo maybe it's not like that everywhere but Wii is still insanely hard to get here.
