 Though the pilot program has been going on for some number of months now, Nintendo is finally promoting the testing of their "Nintendo Fan Network" at Safeco Field, home of the Nintendo-owned Seattle Mariners Major League Baseball team.    

After downloading a small application from a kiosk, the network lets baseball fans use their Nintendo DS to get a feed of real-time stats on the game. Additionally, fans can stream replays of the game off of television feeds that are not available on the stadium's own replay screen. A trivia-game keeps fans entertained when the baseball game isn't. Finally, the network also gives users the ability to order food and drinks, and have them delivered directly to their seat.    

The cost of using the network is $5 per game, or $30 for ten games. Nintendo is hoping to expand the network to other MLB stadiums in the future.

I saw posters for this when I recently went to a Mariners game. I had no clue that it existed, or what the heck it did, but it sounds kind of cool. Does the DS have the wireless range needed for such a system to work well? No doubt there must be many signal broadcast locations throughout the stadium.

I saw stuff about this last weekend at Safeco when the Blue Jays were in town.  I had not brought my DS to the game since I was planning on, you know, watching the baseball game.  Sure wish I brought the DS with me on the trip though.  I waited FOUR HOURS at the American border.

Although it isn't Nintendo related this sort of thing sounds more suited for cellphones than the DS.  Ideally the Seattle Mariners shouldn't want people paying more attention to their videogame system than the game.  It's best for the team that people find them entertaining.

are you kidding me?  baseball games are the slowest moving form of entertainment out there.... plenty of time to look down at a DS... usually there is absolutely nothing happening on the field of interest.... I tend to just people watch while I sip beer, this is a great idea I think

Being a Pirates fan, I hope to God this thing gets expanded.  You can only look at the buildings and watch the pierogi race so many times.

LOL. This reminds me of Nintendo using a button-less version of the DS as an interactive guide and aide in that poetry museum they're linked to.
