Title: I smell a PS3 price drop
Post by: S-U-P-E-R on June 14, 2007, 03:36:33 AM
I haven't heard anything official, but I noticed one store in Tokyo here was selling new ones for about 2000 yen less, and that's the one that comes with the Casino Royale blu-ray. If a store is taking initiative dropping the price... hmm.
I'm actually going to buy a used one this weekend unless they've all disappeared (LOL UNLIKELY) for around 300 USD. I don't see how Sony can possibly hold out on a price drop any longer. Maybe they're waiting for an event to announce it at?

Maybe individual retailers are silently dumping the stock off. Giving the PS3 the silent treatment of sorts.

I was sort of hoping that there be more inventory then demand out there so I could get one for cheap...

Well, I imagine those Japanese video game stores are small and don't have much shelf space to begin with, and then you factor in a system like the PS3 which is enormous and it isn't really selling that great. Wouldn't it make sense that they'd want to clear it so they can make more room for more DS games?

Where have you been? There have been reports of stores dropping the PS3 price in Japan a month or two after launch.

I thought PS3 was on an open pricing plan in Japan?

Isn't 2,000 Yen like $15? That's not much of a price drop.

$16 to be exact... but yep, pretty trival price drop considering the price of the system.

Yeah, I though SCEJ has been considering drops there for a long time. At any rate, I'd wait to get one until there is an official drop, or if that doesn't happen, pick up the used one right before you return to Cattank, Montana.

Reports, sure, but this is the first time I've seen it with my own eyes.

I waited out all of May in case there was going to be a price drop then.

At a local indy game store their special is that if you buy a PS3 you can get a free PS3 game of your choice since the management admitted to me the reason why they are doing that is because their distributor sell PS3s to them for $435 dollars (60GB unit) which isn't bad at all since even if the PS3 dropped 100 dollars you wouldn't be saving that much since whats the point of a system if your not getting a game with it?

The promotion is for $400, but the ad discounts the TV [read the whole thing] so that it ends up being a $600 "savings" (IF the TV's weren't overpriced to start)

Wow that just sounds like a horrible deal.
Ok, lets make a deal for people.
Spend $2,100.00 pretax and get a $400.00 off for a game system that costs $599.99 So you are actually still spending $199.99 for the PS3.
So I still am spending 2,299.99 for a nice TV, a crappy movie, a crappy game, and a PS3 that has nothing worth watching on it yet...and will probably get a real price drop within the year.
