Title: Wii went back up...
Post by: Smash_Brother on June 04, 2007, 08:46:48 AM
Check ebay and type in Wii: they're selling for ~$350 with another $35 shipping right now. What the HELL?!
I feel like an idiot for selling three I had recently and only getting $310 with $20 shipping because I was afraid they'd become plentiful.
Is there any reason Wiis would have shot up in demand yet again?

That is strange i checked it last in about mid March and it at a little below $300 dollars i guess they are slowly going up. At least they are staying popular.

Just everyday fluctuation I suppose?

I think their eBay value is related to the current stalk market prices in Animal Crossing.

Dammit, UP/ARO/nintendo_star, give it up already.

That's not him. UP/ARO/etc. never used an avatar, and this guy has a comcast email address, which would be harder to create extra from. He's also had his account for several days, it seems, as his postcount is .08 posts per day.

the ebay prices shot up to take advantage of the peeps who failed to snag a wii this past Memorial Day sales weekend.

that would make sense

So that means people were expecting to get a Wii on Memorial Day, and held off from purchasing on eBay for then? How long would that have affected the price before-hand?
Actually, it may be a wise idea to stock up on Wiis now, and eBay them in late November, early December...

yea then the prices will be really high just because the release date for brawl will probably be soon if they really want to get it out during 2007

Patchkid15, Smash_Brother is paranoid in thinking that you are here only to end up promoting some product after you gain our trust and friendship.
If you aren't, then Smash needs to read more Sherlock Holmes.
If you are, well, let's not dwell on that...
Smash could just take you to court. We'll have to assign you a defense attorney.
Um, on topic: I have a buddy who actually bought a Wii off of Ebay, for $350. He just had to have for Christmas. I told him he was crazy cause it wouldn't be long before they could be found in stores everywhere.
I was wrong and he's been happy with his Wii.

Have you had your Ninja fix today? What? NO!?!?! Then buy Konami's Legend of the Mystical Ninja for the Wii VC games console to suit ALL your Ninja needs! It certainly got MY yin and yang in order!!!

Oh Konami, yeah, they are reaaaaaaal great. Hey, thanks for all the Gamecube support. Could I please have another Disney sports game? How about another TMNT game? Sure, they may give us fans Castlevania on the DS but what else? More Yu-Gi-Oh? That's great.
If you want to play a really awesome ninja game and by a company that actually tries to support a system, I suggest Izuna: Legend of the Unemployed Ninja. Hey look. The talkback thread of the Nintendo World Report review of the game just happens to by around. Right here And it comes with an awesome customer testimony about the game. So, why don't we spend our dollars on a real company that actually tries to create innovative things on a Nintendo sytem and actually cares about the fanbase.
Thank you, Atlus. Thank you for caring.

I don't like to double post but then I realized it ups my post count. Plus, it keeps the spirit of my first post in tact and doesn't switch gears. Unlike this second post. So, switching gears:
Hey Shecky, if you want a witness for the Patchkid15 trial, feel free to call me for the defense. I have some evidence I could provide to add further proof to damage Smash_Brother's UP/ARE/Nintnedo_Star/Elementos theory.

"Is there any reason Wiis would have shot up"
Well since it's been out fot awhile sometimes these things just happen, without control.

Oh yeah, Atlus cares. They care so much, they took the thousands of years old game engine of Rogue (found in an Egyptian tomb, probably) and slapped a shallow "story" about ninjas on it. Ninjas who don't do a single ninja-like activity. If you really want a ninja game from a company that cares about ninjas, which, face it, is more important than Gamecube support, then look no further than Ninja Five-0, also from Konami. It stars a ninja named Joe, who is also a detective, and he swings around with a grappling hook and kills people. There is no better setup for a game possible in this universe. No doubt the surge in Wii ebay prices is the result of the excitement caused by the rumor I am just now making up of a new Ninja Five-0 game for Wii.
Alternatively, the Wii prices shot up at about the same time the release date of Metroid Prime 3 was announced, didn't they?

I don't go to trial without an assured victory.
This new kid just had all the same signs as UP: 2 line signature and egregious grammar and spelling.

Oh, come on... The lack of 3rd party support is just as much Nintendo's fault.

Nintendo had several ways to ensure the large third parties would be successful on the GC. One of them was to 'loan' their IP to them, and it worked well enough. Konami knew this, and they could have done something about it, but they chose not to. I appreciate their support on the DS, but their GC support could have been much better and still have profited.

Nintendo published most of those games thus made most of the money. How does that prove anything except that Nintendo IPs sell well on Nintendo hardware? That doesn't assure 3rd parties that their own games will perform well. Nintendo didn't give anyone a reason to believe GCN was a better choice than PS2. It just was and that was that.
When Sony took the market by storm, Nintendo let them take it... by making dipsh*t decisions. It's kind of what Sony is doing now. Of course, Gamecube support in general could have been better. The thing is that there was no real reason to choose GCN over PS2. Then, Nintendo did almost everything to make the most unappealing console ever, learning surprisingly little from N64. I don't blame Konami, or any 3rd party publisher, at all shafting Gamecube. It was easier to make money on PS2. Perhaps they could release the same game on GCN and sell just as much, but why? Why not just release it on Playstation 2? And at least you sell with the potential that maybe you'll sell more due to a higher user base.
Nintendo used to say that they weren't competing with Sony and Microsoft, but their system did the same thing as the other consoles did... sometimes worse. With Wii, they're actually doing something different. Now they have something to entice developers with; they have multiple reasons why publishers should support them and more importantly, why publishers should support them over Sony and Microsoft. Plus, it doesn't hurt that Wii is selling like crazy. Nintendo has still made mistakes... but they've made fewer mistakes than their competitors, just as Sony has made fewer mistakes than competitors in the previous 2 generations.

Well said, and I can't emphasize enough how the Wii is DEFINITELY competing with all systems and all forms of competition for your entertainment dollar.
Technically, the Wii is in competition with alcohol, drugs and even prostitutes (male or female) for the entertainment dollar of their customers. Anything which isn't a business or living expense that classifies as "extraneous expenditure" is another option people could spend their money on instead of the Wii and games.
