Title: What you think of the Change
Post by: Ceric on May 25, 2007, 07:25:42 AM
I'm going to start off.  Warning people warning.  I was literally away from the forums for a minute and the thing changed.

1)  I still think there needs to be a VC forum.
2)  The "General Gaming" forum is confusing.  It doesn't jump out and scream "non-Nintendo" like it should.
3)  Why did "Technical Discussion" get lumped into "General Gaming"?  It would make more sense to move "Wi-Fi Support" out of the "Wi-Fi Connection" section and lump it with that.

That is true.  Call it: "Technical and WiFi Discussion"

It's better... I still wish we just had better forum software.  Perhaps something that doesn't look like crap from WAP...

Technical discussion was mostly dead anyway.  VC discussion should go in Nintendo Home Console discussion.  At least that's how I feel about it.

What if they put classic Game Boy games for download?  Then we're screwed...

Its more active then Wifi Support is.  I really think those two should just be merged because Wifi support is technical discussion.

General Gaming and General Chat are too easily mixed up and should be renamed.

I love it. It's been a long time coming.

The only thing I'd like to see is General Gaming split into a current and retro areas.

And YES, we badly need new software. vBulletin is awesome. I mean, look, FuseTalk was last updated in 2002!

This "Simple Machine Forum" looks sweet using WAP...

We already have TG-16 and Genesis stuff.

We need an Ian Automatic reply forum. Instead of him posting messages in the main topics, we can just refer to this database and pick what best fits the situation out of 4 choices.

Personally I want an RSS Feed of the forums.  It save me a lot of time.

I can't complain. General gaming is too broad though. Really needs split.

I think there should be some necessary minimum post limit before you can post on the friend code forum.  Something like five, or something.  At least they can try to be part of the community to some extent before they play the community in the video games.
Title: RE: What you think of the Change

That's the worst idea ever.  All that will do is encourage newbies to spam the other boards with worthless posts in order to get the required minimum.

That's what I've been advocating.  We'll just have to see what we can do.

Thank you, the forum software has needed an update for quite some time.  If there is anything we as a community can do to help, please feel free to ask.

That doesn't look bad at all, and from the quick glances that I saw it has all the features that this forum software might be missing, except for quick and easy direct to post linking.

SMF has direct to post linking too.

SO does Fuse talk, but is it quick and easy, like the number of the post linkable in the corner, or something just as quick and easy?
Title: RE: What you think of the Change
Post by: Ceric on May 28, 2007, 12:07:54 PM
I personally like the current setup of the forums.  Thinking about it their isn't much that I would change.  I mean I like to add such features as:
  • Being able to see threads created by a user
  • Being able to see all the posts of a user
  • Better Search
  • RSS Feed/s (This is probably just me but if I could get a feed of a thread or forum that be nice)

Thinking about it even with all my complaining I don't think I really want things like:
  • Users being able to use different fonts
  • Users being able to use different color text
  • Embedding HTML

I personally can think of a few special cases where that would be cool, Media Create Data, but besides those it would make the whole thing disjoint and slightly hard to read.  I really like how clean these forums are do to the simplicity of the software.  Now I wouldn't mind being able to change the colors and font in my personal settings on how I view and read the forums.

    Here's my wishlist:

  • Option to turn off viewing of avatars. (sorry folks...)
  • Option to turn off signatures. (I hate signatures that are three times larger than that poster's average post.  Sorry again)
  • Auto scaling of attached images (I'm the big offender there, I guess... Sorry me)
  • Bold, Italics, Underlining and Spoilers being the only special font options.
  • Standard HTML code instead of crazy-board only codes.
  • Easy WAP Access.  I love being able to browse the net from the toilet at work.
  • The ability to ignore posters.  Not something I would use, but I think every board should have it.
  • Me as grand king ruler of all.
  • NO* YouTube (or such) video imbedding.  So many forums are going with this and I hate it.  If I want to look at your stupid video, I can click on a link.
  • Bring Back the Rat!
  • *edit* And how 'bout some code that actually makes a bulleted list when you use a command called 'bullet'?
  • Title: RE: What you think of the Change
Post by: Ceric on May 28, 2007, 04:11:43 PM
You don't like the List Item command?

Actually I'm sort of glad its like that because you don't get the space you get if you use bullet or num and just use li alone.

I definitely agree about the Video Embedding and the Auto-scaling of images if the exceed forums limit.
I will also add built-in Spell and Grammar checker in my wish list.
Title: RE:What you think of the Change
Post by: UncleBob on May 28, 2007, 04:15:41 PM
Well, when I press the little button that shows lines with bullets in front of them, I expect it to post a bulleted list.

Title: RE: What you think of the Change
Post by: Ceric on May 28, 2007, 04:18:25 PM
lol.  Yeah I hate that space and that seems to be all it really does.  Except num will allow you to switch the elements from bullets to numbers.  I think you could probably embed that in a num list and get some bullets lets see.

    1. Eliminate S-U-P-E-R and Seize control of Funhouse

      • Reason Why this is Needed

        1. As Proven before the Funhouse is truly the spot where all power is generated from to maintain NWR
        2. Because it would show a dominance unknown to man.

Yeah, I want grammar because of the whole there/their/they're thing.  Homophones and close homophones get me because I type as I talk.

      Not this kind of list...
I mean, what the heck is this list for anyway?
      The little picture shows bullets...
      the command is bullet...
But there's no bullets!  There's a lot of space though... Bullet holes?

Testing a theory sorry about the double post.

I think I see what you did there... I'm going to try something else...

Also, I'd like to see the auto quoting system limited to two quotes at most.  Granted, it might make some topics a little less fun..
*edit* No... my idea didn't work.
    *edit2* new idea...

Yeah, nested quotes should be limited to a certain number of indentations, at least.  I'd also like to see better profiles.  We could get rid of the friend code threads entirely if we were able to store our friend codes in our profiles and then query the forum for everyone who has a friend code posted for a certain game.

Just click the home link at the top of the page twice to make all post old, then just click it once a day to keep only the new post from the last day marked as (NEW!).

NO!!!! SUPER will decide what title you are entitled to. Or Bloodworth, or whatever other Mod comes up with something clever at the time. Unless there is another funhouse thread where the theme is to change each others titles;.

I like having titles assigned to us.  Even though I usually just harass a mod to change mine every so often.

Speaking of which, would a mod like to change this one to someone reflect that I am the real UncleBob (-nospace), just the mobile version.... Thanks!
