because every fps before it had a wacky shield-regenerating grenade-throwing aspect to gameplay

I have always found Halo's gameplay to be too slow in movement and aiming for the quick run and gun FPS it tries to be. You can kill be so quickly in the game, that it needs to be faster.
I am fond of Unreal Tournaments, TimeSplitters, Perfect Dark...which is quicker in movements, speed, and makes the game about reaction time as much about who has the best weapons.
I am still waiting for the first truly great Wii first person shooter. It hasn't been designed yet...but when it is (and features online play) the Wii will have a masterpiece on its hands.

Oh whoops, the one actually-new thing is also the most retarded addition to FPSers ever...I don't know a single person who likes playing with overshields on...

I doubt you get to play with other people when you're on house arrest for getting party vanned

Bill, overshields are the power ups that make your shields really strong temporarily. GIT UR FAKTS STRAIGHT.

I hate the way that NO MATTER WHAT, everyone only ever plays Blood Gulch and Zanzibar. Zanzibar must be the worst map I've ever seen.

I think they're fun but totally overplayed. I really like lockdown because of all the fun tricks and traps you can pull off on it :3

Awww, Zanzibar is my favorite!
But yeah, can't stand Coagulation, particularly when playing with tanks...So annoying...

I've always wanted to try that, the one thing that I always wanted changed on FPS was the health system, however I guess that this shield thing is meant to make the game more realistic so you can be killed with one shot, developers forget that usually realism leads to boredom.
I remember a really old FPS called scarab if I'm not mistaken, that seemed more like a flash game honestly, in which you had a shield that you could rotate around you, it was clumsy but the idea had great potential if they could implement the controls better, I liked it.

I agree with everything that has been said about Hallo. It's a very poopy game series. I wouldn't be sad if they stopped making them...

But is crappy game series got get sequels what will we be able to complain about. We need series that are over hyped to continue to exist so that we internet nerds can exist.
I say let the Mortal Kombat, Halo, Banjo & Kazooie, Madden, All World War 2 FPS, Grand Theft Autos, and Movie tie-in games continue to be made.
We need them so what we understand what really great game design is about.
(Note: I don't like Halo, but I am partial joking about Halo being a horrible series...it is just overrated.)

Oh my gah, I hear Halo is totally broken. People/pedophiles who use flawless strategy still end up losing. Clearly, non-gamers whom like unstrategic games like Halo are too shamed and shouldn't be allowed to breathe!!

I was over at a mates place around the time that the Halo 3 beta went live (a little over two hours ago now), so we went to find out if it was available (via Crackdown, we're not that cool to get it another way).
No dice.
Checked out the Bungie site. Spent less than a minute to find out there was a problem and then spent an hour laughing at the people getting angry on the forums at the fact that the game wasn't out yet.
I'm not sure whether that's an example of irrational hate or love of Halo but its certainly tragic.
