Title: Bought-and-paid-for-Journalism...
Post by: Smash_Brother on April 25, 2007, 05:55:31 PM
An interesting read

Some PR people have taken game journalists to strip clubs and on some occasions, purchased prostitutes for them.

VERY FEW of the game "journalists" in the industry have journalism backgrounds and practically none of them have any ethics when it comes to their jobs and serving the reader's interest. They all say they do, but their actions are different. When Ubisoft holds a PR event in Hawaii and allows the staff of IGN to invite their wives and/or girlfriends, the end reader never gets to hear about that. And it's not on IGN's dime at all.

All I can say is "wow".

Well, one thing is certain. The NWR crew are not going to get some hoe action based on their recent reviews .

How do you know that? Maybe the NWR staff is just playing hard to get, reminding the big publishers why perks are important...

This might also explain the Dequello vs. Gonintendo thingy... Dequello must've seen RawMeatCowboy dancing topless at a PR get-together at a stripclub!

I think it's pretty obvious that NWR's sole purpose it to vie for freebies from gaming developers and publishers.  I mean, why get paid cash when you can get paid with strip clubs and happy endings?  Obviously, Sega and obviously Pangya's company* obviously weren't footing the obvious bills of these obvious things.  That's why the review system is switching to pictures of hookers - The less she's wearing, the higher the score, and the happier the ending the reviewer received before he or she finished the game.

*Too lazy to look up real facts, duh!

It's not bribery, it's lobbying!

You say, “Doesn’t this go on in every industry?” No. But even if it did, why do we tolerate bought-and-paid-for journalism?

Because thats all we've got.

They (journalists) collude with terrorists too, so this isn't too surprising but outrageous nonetheless.

I clicked the link and got the above message. Looks like they don't want to the truth to get out... Anybody save the text or something?

I think that after reading many 'professional' sites, this becomes painfully apparent. But it gives hope to other would-be journalists!

The link in the original article is still working for me. Maybe there was a bandwidth issue.

Or maybe, if you had previously clicked the link, it's still saved in your cache? Personally, I'm also getting this message:

Eh, its now doing it for me. I blame voodoo internet magic.

I was going to post that part of the article but the part that S_B posted is probably the best part. The rest is nothing new.
