Title: What did Metroid Prime and Fusion get from Famitsu?
Post by: Gamefreak on March 16, 2003, 08:44:22 AM
What did Prime get? I know it's out already in Japan. Not sure about fusion but if it's out what did it get? I really hope Prime does well in Japan, they have been missing out on a great series (Japan didn't even notice Super Metroid..).

I heard it sold around 40 thousand at launch and got pretty average scores.

Japan DID notice Super Metroid and as a result it sold over a million copies there.

Actually, Super Metroid didn't sell over a million copies in Japan- maybe worldwide, but not Japan specifically. The-MagicBox has a list of all the platinum games in Japan:

Super Metroid's US sales compared to japanese sales are like the US sales of Ocarina of Time or Super Mario 64 compared to japanese sales...

Personally, (I am going to take flak for this I am sure), but I think the game is deserving of such a fate.  I bought the game out of hype, but I still haven't finished it.  I just got bored with it after a while, and played Resident Evil 0 instead (A much better game), as I had bought the two games on the same day.

Now don't get me wrong.  I still think the game is deserving of praise, as it is a genre defining game, and is executed with perfection.  However, the game simply bores me....  I don't know why.  I can't keep my interest in it long enough to play it more than an hour or so.

I bought prime and zero at the same time too. I've finished prime, but i didn't finish zero.

Both of these games have serious problems.

Despite being one of the best games i've ever played, Prime is just too boring.

and the drop/pickup system totally ruined re0. I just realized that a spend more time just carrying items around making trips back and forth to bring all my stuff to the next are than i spend actually playing the game. Other than that its a good game from what i've seen. I might beat it someday, but I just can't take it any more for now.

Hehe... I didn't bother doing that.  I just kept little piles of stuff I needed here and there.  It would sometimes backfire and I would have to walk a million freaking miles to pickup the shotgun I left at the beginning of the game.... but it wasn't that bad.  The only thing that I kept having to go back for because I didn't think I would need it again is the hookshot...  That thing should be abolished I tell ya.

Actually, I did sometimes just leave big items behind permanently though.  There was one time I got trapped in the bathroom by a Marcus Zombie...  I emptied the last of my shotgun shells in him, dropped the shotgun, picked up a couple of green herbs on the floor, and ran.  I never went back into the room again, and the shotgun remains there to this day.

The game is seriously a 10/10 in my books though, slight gameplay problems be damned.  It's my favorite Resident Evil.

"and played Resident Evil 0 instead (A much better game)"

Say rather you enjyoed RE0 more, because there's no way RE0 is better amde than Metroid Prime. Even if you thought it was boring, which is perfectly fine, you have to admit it was very well made but just wasn't interesting to you. I got kinda bored with Pikmin and Animal Crossing, but both are MUCH better made than JKII for my Gamecube, which I've played much more.

Sorry, my wording was indeed in error.  Technically, Metroid Prime is an almost perfect game.  Resident Evil 0 does indeed have some gameplay flaws, but nothing serious IMO.

I agree, Prime is brutally boring. I cant stand all the scanning, its like reading the damn paper, and I do enough of that at work.

I also think this game was sold and pegged as great by many simply on hype.
