Computer and Video Games recently spoke to a representative at Nintendo to get the company's thoughts on Sony's new HOME feature for the PS3, which allows players to create virtual homes that act as a hub for online content and multiplayer gaming. Brushing it off, they responded with the following:
"This is an example of Sony's "Mii-too" approach. But as Mr. Miyamoto states, Nintendo years ago considered and rejected the type of approach Sony is now taking."

"i sincerely think nintendo should come off thier high horse and say something sensible for once.. its run by a bunch of people that are starting to mentally degenerate, hence thier fetish for very childish games. The WII is for people who love it. what i dont understand is this bashing, making it seem as if only thier decisions are right for the gaming community. They repackage a gamecube with a motion sensing controller and call that innovative... yeah right!!! if the gaming community was under nintendo's leadership, i doubt we would experience any of the entertainment we get from the xbox360 and ps3."
In terms of this headline, though, I think Nintendo would have been better off not saying anything at all, or just stating they (Sony) seem to be taking the concept in a different direction.

Mii's are a fun little diversion, allowing people to make caricatures of themselves and others, and then, in return, these guys pop up in games and will be used for beauty contests. It's quick and easy to make someone, and everyone enjoys looking at them, because it is a caricature. With home, you dress a person and decorate a room. Sounds like a boring mix between an MMORPG and Animal Crossing, only with minimal content. On top of that, it seems to be a quick way to try to make a buck, with the purchasable everythings they'll have there. Nintendo would have probably turned this down because it isn't really that appealing, and for those who it does appeal to, they can play WWE RAW! or something where you can customize a real-looking wrestler like yourself. Seriously, this Home stuff looks boring and stupid.
I am curious as to how those who like MMO's think about Home. Does it interest you more than it interests me?
Edit: I just watched the trailer Sony gave. They mentioned buying clothes from the store, downloading furniture from the store, downloading movies from the store, and then talked about how it had unique ways to talk using emotes.
It also seems to have had billiards, bowling, and an arcade with simple-looking games.
So let's re-cap. You get to play Bowling, you get to play billiards, you get to play some cheapish arcade games made solely so they can talk about the feature, and you get to talk to people, like Live, only now you do it in a virtual lobby. Additionally, you can also get a room to "invite people into," and let them listen to music or watch video on a private screen. Sounds more like an expensive Myspace than an MMOG, now. If I wanted Myspace, I'd go to Myspace for free, and probably would end up seeing just as many adds. That's right, Sony is going to put advertisements into the thing also.
So is anyone actually excited about this, or did Sony decide to start giving the media money hats? I mean, I saw GameSpot's review of the Sony conference, and although Sony said nothing interesting, they seemed to be talking about how it was a whole new Sony, or rather, the old Sony, which, to me, it seemed like it was the same Sony we'd been seeing, just w/o the giant crabs.

Not really. I see this as Sony's counter to the Mii system. There's no doubt in my mind that HOME would have never come about if not for Nintendo having such huge success with Miis.
They created something in response that I wouldn't call a direct rip off of the Miis, which will probably appeal to a different audience then the Miis do... the kind who enjoy enjoy the Sims.

I agree with prior posters of Nintendo should have shut up though. But GDC would have been a good opportunity for Nintendo to show off what more Mii's can do. They really need to create games that incorporate Mii's more. I'd love to see them in everything. Just think, Mii's running around on the battlefields of Medal of Honor or something.

Also, Second Life is vastly overrated (though it has SOME uses for a very dedicated minority... i.e. Furries), and... well... Sony's "Home" concept simply strikes me as a convergence-synergy-multi-business-leverage-gasm with little else.

I make this prediction right now....for every single thing in this world will cost actual money. I don't understand why anyone would want this but granted, there are a lot of idiots out there and a lot of them will get into it. I could not get into this. It might be interesting for about 5 min. This will not become something great. The idea you have to "meet" at someones "house" along with games and stuff are in this world. I would say it might sound nice, but I don't think it will take off.

Considering the concept is newly unveiled, borrows parts from other games and is adding a lot of things to it, your comments are pretty shallow.
