Title: So, what TV shows do you guys watch?
Post by: nickmitch on March 02, 2007, 03:14:43 AM
Like, if someone were to make a bar and arcade (for a school project for example), which shows would be good to advertise on?

Also, I'd like to get to know you guys better, especially you newer guys.

Sunday: The Simpsons, The Dead Zone (during the summer)
Monday: 24, Heroes, The Closer (during the summer)
Tuesday: House, M.D., Eureka (during the summer)
Wednesday: Bones, Medium (most times)

There isn't anything on the rest of the week that floats my boat, so to speak, so I either read or play a game.

One Piece, but man the english dub bugs me so much sometimes.
Family Guy, Simpsons, Spongebob, Fairly Odd Parents, Married with Children.

With those 6 shows I get a healthy amount of laughter every single day.

On Monday I watch Prison Break and 24.  Originally Prison Break was just a "tide-me-over" for 24 but this season of 24 has been pretty weak so Prison Break has actually become the more anticipated show.

Thursday I watch My Name is Earl and The Office.  The Office is my favourite show on TV right now but in the last episodes Earl has just been on and has often been the funnier show.  But that's no knock on The Office.  Earl being funnier is a major achievement.

Aside from that all I watch is hockey, usually just the Canuck games and the odd other sport here and there.

I'll say it feels incredibly liberating to actually have TV shows I routinely watch again.  During that time where Survivor and Who Wants to be a Millionaire were huge every show was either a reality or game show and there was nothing I found interesting on TV.  Even wrestling, which I used to watch religiously, had taken a dive after WWF become the only game in town and become WWE (I since have stopped watching it).  For years 24 was all I watched.  Earl and Office are the first comedies I've watched since Seinfeld and it's great to have something funny to look forward to again.

Stuff i'm watching right now: Heroes, Lost, Stargate Atlantis, Skins (sometimes), Bonkers, Hotel Babylon. I tried to sit down and watch Primeval but can't get into it.
My friends came around with Noah's Arc on DVD and even though it's not my thing, it's still incredibly funny. For most people, purely because of it's nature/setting, they won't watch it.

I'm just gonna list. (s) next to a show means sometimes. (p) means season pass on TiVo.

Family Guy (p)
Simpsons (s)
Survivor
Amazing Race (s)
Heroes (p)
Rome (p)
Dexter (p)
Big Love (p)
Sopranos (p)
Attack of the Show*
Future Weapons
Weeds (p)
ER

Anime:
Busou Renkin
Kiba
Naruto
Bleach
Kekkaishi

* AOTS needs explainin it's a show on G4 about mostly technology, and video games with some current events thrown in. I have a season pass for it, but I end up deleting a lot of episodes long before they are over because I lose interest. I have the season pass for the episode (usually only 1 or 2 a week) where I am entertained for a full hour. Plus one of the hosts (Olivia Munn) is hot and always wears very very revealing shirts.

Edit: I forgot two shows

Heroes, Lost and Simpsons are pretty much all I watch when they air. Everything else, (Office, Battlestar Galactica, Deadwood, Entourage, Scrubs, Veronica Mars and other stuff I'm sure I'm forgetting) I watch in a week's span on DVD. I would watch more of those shows when they air, but I'm usually at work during prime time and I don't have cable. Also, watching TV on DVD is way better. No waiting a week to find out what happens next, no commercials, I can watch whenever I want, the quality is better, etc.

And to all you people saying you watch the Office, you should give 30 Rock a viewing. It's awesome.

Many of my favourites have been covered, but I have to add in Corner Gas, Hockey Night in Canada and This Hour has 22 Minutes, which most of you probably don't watch.. occasionally The Hour and some CBC Newsworld Documentaries (The Passionate Eye, Fifth Estate etc) also.

I like following the shift in trends of the TV industry.. right now continuous dramas seem to be the in thing as opposed to periods where sitcoms or reality shows ruled. Speaking of which, I'm a big sitcom fan, and I'm glad that most of them have moved away from the traditional laugh-track ones. RIP, Arrested Development.

I left a few shows off my list, and I would have added them in earlier, but I was at work.

Shows that are in my "Trial Period":
30 Rock <--So far sooo funny, I've seen 1 1/2 eps.
The Black Donnelly's <--- only the pilot ep. so far, but interesting

Shows that I'm waiting to check out:
The Riches <--on FX
The Winner <--On Fox, looks stupid, and I just want to make sure that it is.

Can we all agree that the Simpsons has been really sucking lately? Like, the past few (well, more than few) seasons have sucked heavily. The jokes aren't funny anymore, and Lisa is really annoying. Also, the episode where Sideshow Bob goes to Italy and raises a family, but his son is somehow older than Maggie. Seriously, what was up with that?

the office, but that's only on once a week; i usually keep up with an assortment of cable news, minus the stupid shows like greta van sustern and that crazy lawyer witch on CNN. I like colbert report and the daily show, and used to like the first season of Lost, but my attention span slips easily hence this short list

Come on! No one watches Fairly Odd Parents or Spongebob befor the 4th season? Both those cartoons are amazing!

And yeah Simpsons has been going down hill for a little while now. I am friends with one of the artists through my wu shu school, and she tells me about new episodes, the movie, and everything! I just dont have the heart to tell her the show has been steadily getting crappier. The jokes just seem so forced now, just like the 4th spongebob season! It seems like the characters(in both shows) are saying things that they are told to say, rather than what they would want to say. I just don't believe them any more.

Did anyone watch that awesome spider-man show on MTV about 2 years ago?

I don't think the new Simpsons are as bad as everyone says. Sure, they're not nearly as good as they once were, but I still laugh. I will be there opening night for the movie.

I thought the Simpsons got pretty old back almost 7 or 8 years ago!

I'm actually looking forward to those too both, but The Riches might be a problem, as it comes on Monday, at 10pm.  Already Monday is clogged because of 24 and Heroes, but we usually watch Heroes at 10 after watching 24.

I think that The Sipmsons, Family Guy, and Spomgebob, all share the same fate. They started off so strongly, that they can no longer top themselves.

I've totally given up on Spongebob, but I still watch the other 2 because they are still funny, just not instant classics like their older episodes. I still catch Spongebob sometimes but I only watch if its episode I've already seen. Fairly Odd Parents was alright but I got tired of it. I also used to watch Blues Clues, but I don't like the new guy. Long Live Steve!

I thought I would list some old cartoons I used to watch starting with one of my all time favorites, but in no particular order after that.

Centurions
G.I Joe
Captain Planet
Johnny Quest
Batman (every single kind ever, including the live action show with spandex Robin *POW* lol)
X-Men
Spiderman (same as Batman, including the short lived live action show)
Transformers(all kinds)
Masters of the Universe
Super Friends
Justice League (all kinds)
Thundercats
King Arthur( I can't remember if that was the name, but that's what it was about)
Smurfs
Snorks
Care Bears
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
(I also forgot to list Aqua Teen Hunger Force in my first post)
Then there are two that I loved that I can't remember the names of;

1. It was set in space and humans were fighting against these alien creatures and against space pirates. They used these bad-ass exo-skeletons to fight. I remember in the last season I saw they found this alien like lab or something where the aliens were being bred. I remember the last episode I saw they teamed up with the Space Pirates to try and take out the aliens for good. Then the captain gave a little monologue at the end saying, "maybe someday there will be an enemy so strong, we'll have to join forces with the aliens" not an exact quote but we're talking like 12 years ago, but that stuck with me because I always wondered about what kind of enemy would come next.

2. The other show was on Cartoon Network way back in the day but it was more popular to my knowledge. They even made an appearance on Family Guy. It was with pre-historic warriors, they had a pterodactyl, and triceratop for allies, along with these two blob like creatures. It was a man, his (hot if I remember correctly) wife, and their son.

edit: mistakes fixed

Damn you must be smokin' some goood sh!t. That the only way I could imagine an adult sitting through something as elementary as Blues Clues, is in a stoned blood shot stare, entertained that you also saw the red crayon sitting on the blue table, all while eating an oversized bowl of fruity pebbles.

I used to watch Sponge Bob and I used to find it absolutely hilarious, but I haven't watched it in a while, especially since I forced myself to sit through the movie and didn't really find it funny.3

As far as all those other cartoons, I used to watch almost all of those two, but I don't know the last two you described.

And cartoons that I still watch evcery now and then:
ATHF, Morel Orel, FG, AD, Futurama, Inuyasha(maybe I sould just say that I let [adult swim] play until something I really don't like comes on, or something better comes on a different channel).

I also forgot to mention that I occaionally watch Law & Order: CI & SVU

"Can we all agree that the Simpsons has been really sucking lately?"

Yesterday my brother wanted to watch the episode where Homer gets accused of sexual harassment.  I couldn't remember what season it was so I looked it up online so I'm not farting through all my DVDs.  I had no idea there are 18 seasons of the show.  There are so many seasons now that the era of Simpsons that I like is in fact a minority.  I used to say "I like the Simpsons except..." but now it be more accurate to say "I hate the Simpsons except...".  Time flies.

I own Seasons 1 to 7 on DVD and that is all The Simpsons I need.  Season 1 is a little weak since they hadn't quite got into the groove yet and 7 is starting to slide with annoying episodes like Lisa becoming a vegetarian.  Season 8 and beyond I actually find frustrating and annoying to watch.  It just isn't funny to me at all.  The characters are different then the ones I became attached to in the earlier seasons.  A lot of people still watched the show then and it took years until people I knew finally thought I wasn't a weirdo for hating the Simpsons.  I think the show prior to that point had a different style of humour and I just didn't find the "new style" funny.  People who do don't get why I don't like the show because the stuff I point out is stuff they find hilarious.  Different people find different things funny I guess.

I stopped watching for good during the horse episode.  Once Homer went to the land of the jockeys I turned the TV off.  It was so horrible I didn't even feel like watching the rest of the episode.  Since then I periodically tune in to see if things have improved but just watching for a few minutes shows me that the same unfunny annoying style is still there.  So there's no point in watching ever again.  This just isn't the Simpsons I'm a fan of.

Though at the very least when I say that Seasons 3 to 6 were absolutely amazing almost everyone agrees, including younger fans you might not even have been BORN yet when those episodes first aired.  Regardless of when one thinks the show jumped the shark or if one thinks the show has always been great the general opinion of what time period was the best is near universal.  So even if I find over half of the Simpsons entire run to be unfunny at least what Simpsons material I do find funny is funny to everyone.

Everyone likes the Stonecutters episode.  EVERYONE.
