Title: How To: Get Cheap Wii Points
Post by: BlackNMild2k1 on March 01, 2007, 07:24:32 AM
I was reading GAF and they were talking about how to get 2000 Wii Points for $15 everytime.
Quote The Best Buy Gamer Gift card trick works on Wii Points and MS points, so that's $5.00 off the $20.00 cards in store.
If you don't know how to do it, here's a rough rundown:
Go to Best Buy and look for the gift cards.
Find the "Gamers Gift Card" - it's in a CD Jewel case.
Put a few bucks on it. I usually do $10.00, but some put $5.00 or whatever.
Take the gift card out of the case. On the paper that the gift card is stuck to is a coupon for $5.00 off any game $19.99 or higher. Tear that out.
Go back and get the card you want, bring it to the register and give them the $5.00 off coupon. Pay the remaining balance with the amount on the gift card plus cash/credit.
I said I was gonna get some VC games and this is how I'm gonna finance those purchases. But you might as well just put $15.74* on the Gamers Gift Card and then just pay for the 2000 Wii points with that. no need for any other cash or credit.
$15.74 = that total for the purchase after tax is applied.
Quote Originally posted by: Dr. Zoidberg They ask "How Much" and I say the amount ($15.74 if I'm buying a $20 points card, for example). They will usually look at me funny due to the odd amount but they have never said anything. Then I say I want this item on the second transaction, they ring it up and say $20.99 (after tax). I open the GGC and give them the coupon. They apply it.. Then they say "The total is now.....$15.74.." I can see the realization dawn on their faces that I have just gamed the system. I hand them the gift card and walk out.
Why haven't we known about this before? This all seems too easy.

We live in a world where people buy consoles that rhyme with "pee".

I prefer to think of them as consoles that rhyme with "Run DMC," but to each his own.
(on topic) Nice trick, I'll have to try it sometime.

Where are you located, though, that you have free hanging Wii Points cards? All the stores around me have squat all for Wii points. Most have MS points, though.

Anyone know if they have these gamer cards in Canada?

Nice.
EDIT: according to their website they do have gamer cards in Canada. I'll try to find out if we get the coupons too.

For me the extra work and the gas do not make this work out for me.

for me it's the fact that my local Best Buy has never ever had any wii points.
Or wiimotes
Or nunchucks
Or classic controllers

I have been to many Best Buys in the Pacific Northwest. Only in one of them did I ever find these cards. I was told that each store has the choice of them being a regularly stocked item, which means, if you abuse it, they will stop carrying the cards. It's my only guess why I've only ever seen one card total.
Now that I'm in LA though, I'm definitely going to be looking around to see if any Best Buys around here have the cards, because 1/4 off of VC games is freaking sweet.

That's why any intelligent businessman won't include coupons with gift cards.

Well, most of the time you can't find games for under $20.00. That under $19.99 was supposed to prevent people from buying games on sale. This is brilliant though, and I will be using it very soon.
Another use for this by the way is to get $5.00 off virtual Console Controllers as well. You should be able to get them for the exact same price 15.74 or whatever it was.
It isn't the best of savings but it does help...and its like getting a NES game for 75 cents if you want to look at it that way.

Funny, 'round here 19.99€ IS a game on sale.

I also noticed that you can purchase the gift cards online, are these the same?

I've been running this scam for years now. The only drawback is that whatever it is that you want, Best Buy needs to have it in stock. My brother thought of it one day, and after it just seemed so obvious that I couldn't believe that I hadn't figured it out earlier. At this point I have easily saved enough money where I've gotten 2 $50 games for free.
