Title: Real Time Mafia
Post by: wandering on February 28, 2007, 02:06:31 AM
Would anyone be interested in playing a game of mafia....in real time? I've found some neat software that we can use for this purpose. I was thinking we might play Monday, March 5th at 10:00pm EST (the day shift-key's game was going to start.) But if you'd prefer a different date/time, please, speak.
If you're interested, here's what you need to do:
- Go to volity.net - Download and install Gamut. - Register a volity account. - Go to volity's werewolf page (werewolf = mafia.) Log in. Find where the game I've scheduled is listed, under "Upcoming games". Click the button, beside the listing, that says "Add yourself". - When it comes time for the game, open Gamut. A message should pop up inviting you to the game.
(If you don't want to sign-up in advance, you can skip the last two steps, and just join the game when the time comes. Go to the werewolf page and look for "Join an existing game".)
And that's it. I've never done this before, so I don't know how long the game will take...but I'd plan on it being an hour or so.

Isn't mafia real time anyway?

Um, well, perhaps. I guess you could say this is compressed time mafia. The point is, this game will more closely resemble how mafia is played in real life.

Sounds like an interesting premise, but I won't be able to make that day/time.
In order to be able to complete the game in a reasonable amount of time you probably want to limit the game to no more than eight or ten people.

Yes, you just need the Java Runtime Environment. If you have the OSS version of Freespire then you need to download the package from java.sun.com. If you got the version with the proprietary software then it should be included. Download the plain Jar and you should be fine.
Sounds like an interesting concept, but I won't be able to guinea-pig myself out for this one. Let me know how it goes.

I don't think that will be a problem. Unless 3 more people sign up, we won't even have enough to play....
