Title: Gamecube outsold Xbox 360 by over 26:1 last month

Of course both systems are basically officially DEAD, but the Xbox is much "deader" than the Gamecube, at least in the US. I don't know how long the sales have been going on like this for these two consoles, but it might be possible for the Gamecube to close the gap by a little bit, at least in NA. Nintendo could potentially end up #2 for the last generation, but it's very doubtful. Maybe with a $49 pricetag for the GCN.

Looks like my gamefaqs numbers were wrong (yeah, I'm shocked too...)

They're not 100% confirmed, but they should be pretty close. Last month in the US - Gamecube = 33,806, Xbox = 833. That's 40.58:1 for Gamecube. If they sold ~35k for the rest of the year (which they won't even come close to doing), they'd sell another 4.2 million, which I believe would put Gamecube at #2 worldwide for the previous generation, at least if this Wikipedia article is somewhat accurate - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_video_game_consoles_%28sixth_generation%29#Consoles

And you need to get rid of the 360 from the title of the thread. So, disappointing to find out it was only the original XBOX.

The XBOX would sell more if Microsoft hadn't stopped making them.  I get asked about it at least once a week....

is nintendo still making GCN's or do they still have like a pile of them in a warehouse like they used to do?  IMO i don't think the xbox would sell even if they were still in production since it doesn't have any new games for itself either.

The GameCube hasn't had any new games for like, a year and a half or so and it still sells.

Seriously though, I can't say that the original XBOX would sell well, or even enough to justify keeping it in production, but I know it would sell *some* if it were still being made.

The only stated source so far, though, is the GameFaqs message boards... I'd love for these to be correct, but until a see a good source cited I'm going to stay pretty pessimistic about them.

Well apparently, my gamefaqs-quoted numbers are wrong (gasp!), but the Wii managed to sell 5,000 more than the previous number, and PS3 sold 44,000 LESS...also, XBox 360 sold 77,000 MORE. http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4775&Itemid=2
