Title: 3rd Revision Wiimote Wrist Strap: CONFIRMED!
Post by: Smash_Brother on February 03, 2007, 03:43:11 PM
I recently purchased three addiitonal Wiis for friends who needed them and, of course, registered them with Nintendo for the new straps.
However, what I got back was unexpected:
That's right: revision 3 of the Wiimote strap.
Notice the rounded head instead of the Wii shape like on the first two? Also, the choker point not only has a small raised grip on it but it is IMMENSELY tighter than the original two. If you always have the problem where your strap loosens during play, believe me when I say that this sucker won't be slipping anytime soon.
From the sounds of it, Nintendo was trying to produce these fast enough to get them out the door and as such resulted in a different factory line developing them.
It's a shame they don't carry the Wii look or logo because the choker actually does its job by keeping the strap tight, unlike versions 1 and 2 which the choker just slides away, allowing the strap to loosen.

Totally ugly. They ruin the whole "notched box" motif the Wii has got runnin' (which I cataloged in my FAQ, which I am in the process of updating).

Go Nintendo has actually reported on this. They believed that the story was a fake and that the straps were actually third party ones, but this confirms it.
Supposedly this new version of the strap doesn't have the Nintendo and Wii logos engraved on the plastic parts.
Glad to know that these new straps hold tighter than the older ones. They always get too lose and need to re-adjust them.

This sounds really great, I've been quite annoyed by the wrist strap's innabillity to stay tight and have opted to keep the wrist strap off while I'm not standing up.
I haven't ordered my replacement wrist straps yet, where can I find the link to get them?

They're just generic straps. I don't know how long production of these will continue, maybe just till the "replace the old style" is over.

Trouble is, there's no guarantee you'll get revision 3 instead of 2. The first time I sent in, I got rev2s. It wasn't until this second time ordering replacements that I got rev3s.
It's a shame they look different, as the grip of the choker is something I'd opt to have, though I guess it's not THAT big of a deal.

I have one attached to my wiimote right now, so they're definitely not fake. And I agree about the choker. My old strap is perfectly fine but this one works so much better I use it. However ugly it is.

Bah, I still use the rev1 version and they're fine to me. I received the replacement ones (so rev2) not too long ago and, to my surprise, they shipped 8 of them!!!! (I asked for 4)

I wish I could get a replacement strap, the NoE website says my Wii serial is used or invalid...

I just noticed that the third strap looks EXACTLY like the one on my Fujifilm digital camera (except white). I'd take a picture of it, but I can't get it off.

It looks like the DS strap too. However I've never really seen the need for straps in the first place. If you're like, eight or older, you should have enough control in your motor functions to avoid releasing remotes and controllers towards expensive home equipment at high velocities.
(Says the man who always uses his Wii wrist strap and enforces this policy on his friends when they play as well.)

When I got my 4 replacement straps for my 2 controllers I used one of the extras for my DS
I never noticed that the Wii shaped head of strap before! Nintendo is pretty slick at designing things.
