Title: Wiimote Sticker Template
Post by: capamerica on January 24, 2007, 07:36:58 AM
I spent the last week (or so) putting together skins for all my Wiimotes. I like having my controllers look different from each other and since it doesn't seem like we'll have multi-colored Wiimotes any time soon I decided to do this.
Since I'm such a nice guy, I've decided to share my template with all of you ^_^
The files is a 300dpi Photoshop File, I have it set up so it give you the most crisp and clean printout. All you need to do is find a picture you like, copy and paste it into the template, align it so it looks correct and then print it out. I've included a couple examples in the file so you can see how I put them together.
I've tried a few different printable stickers and I found that "Water-proof inkjet vinyl" (printable bumper stickers) works the best. I've been using Papilio Paper which seems to work best for me. They stick very well on the wiimotes and the ink doesn't rub off on my hands after playing Wii Sports or Super Swing Golf for a hour.
The most pain in the butt part is the cutting them out, a exacto knife is really the best way to do it, it takes me about 10mins to cut one out.
Well now that this is done, now on to the Classic Controller, Nunchuck, and the Wii itself.

I wonder if HP or anybody will make specific Wiimote skin stickers, like they do for iPod and crap.

they might work on a wiiglove, but they might be a bit small.

Wow, dude, impressive.
Did you build bleed into these? That'd make cutting them out a bit less nerve-wracking.
I'm seriously tempted to try this out RIGHT NOW.

VOILA Thanks Cap~! Im gonna make some more, I have a question tho. The PSD says the size of the wiimote skins are to be ginormous, I realize that this is to make sure clarity of the pics you choose dont get pixelated. I just for some reason do not understand how to do this. Lets say I go into Office Max / Copy max, hand them the file, and the appropriate paper and say, print this for me. What are the steps I need to make? I did a print preview and the controllers are HUGE they do not look appropriate wiimote sized.

Oh and also Im worried about the ink issue as well, do you think it wise to laminate it as well?

When you go and print out the template it prints to a normal 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper, It only looks bigger on the computer since its has a higher dpi resolution.
The laminate idea is interesting, but I'm not sure it would work since wouldn't the sticker be laminated between two pieces of laminate?

I dont know I was just going off of what that HP site said and they reccomended lamination. You are referring to getting something laminated via machine (2 sided) But you could always buy the single sheets of lamination and just laminate one side, it would be a lot of work tho because I can imagine cutting out would be a pain, but I might just try it out.
I want to keep making sheets of these XD I am addicted to making them, they are SO easy thanks to Cap's PSD Thanks again Cap.
Edit: Oh god lol XD I just looked at my Felicia skin again . . . . The A button and + button are in some odd places . . . . That honestly wasnt meant to be that way. . . .
Oh and if anyone wants the psd files to any of the wii mote skins I am making or requests I'll send them your way .

No, you can buy self laminating sheets (they are just like clear sticker sheets) and just apply one sheet to the printed side of the sticker (before you cut the design out and peel off the back of the sticker.
oh, never mind

The papilio paper mentioned in the first post...is that the readhesible stuff? I wouldn't want to put anything permanent on my controllers. My NES controllers are screwed up thanks to Nintendo Power's permanent controller stickers, which were just that...stickers.

You should do a set with each one of the Four Swords links being a controller. Plus a Mario Soccer game, name alludes me, set as well.

@ JonLeung When I was doing my tests to find what worked best I picked up both the permanent and removeable version of the papilio paper. Both seem to be removeable and they don't leave much (if any) residue behind. If your conserned I would go with the removeable stickers just to be on the safe side.

Has anyone made a NES-style one with this template, or is that too overdone?
