Title: Gradius - The original...
Post by: ShreddersDojo on January 16, 2007, 02:37:35 AM
I vaugley remember having loads of trouble on the first level right at the volcano stage... and unless I have the shield, I never make it past it.

I also have not yet made it past the third level with those damned Island head carvings that shoot glowing donuts out of their mouths.  I don't ever remember beating the game in my youth, and i think i never made it past this level.

How are the other gradius games?  the only other one I've played was the GBA version that came out....but nothing beats the original classic..

Where's the Gradius love?

I've only played up to the SNES, and have never played the Arcade versions, but I am a big fan of Gradius.

I'd suggest Life Force for the NES as soon as it becomes available on the NES, it was my introduction into the Gradius series and deffinitly my favorite. I hope Nintendo can manage to bring Gradius 4 and 5 onto the Wii's VC, I heard those were pretty good.

The Darius series is also great, the music on the SNES game, "Darius Twins" is something else.

I also liked Life Force a lot, and played it several times. It was also my introduction to Gradius, and seemed a lot easier.  Or maybe because I often played 2-player simultaneous (I forget if Gradius even had that) with the 30 lives code.

I'm not really sure WHY Darius Twin was the first Super NES game I rented...it just seemed like an odd choice...but I remember that the game was hard until you realize the best way to survive is to always have that shield.  Or something like that.
