Title: Splinter Cell: Double Agent...
Post by: Smash_Brother on January 10, 2007, 06:34:43 PM
Haven't played much of the single player, but the multiplayer is a blast. You team up to do various moves, like standing on each other's shoulders to reach a camera, the "human ladder" or flinging your buddy across a chasm. Then there's capturing a guard and having the other player "persuade" him to talk.

Also, I've heard endless b*tching about the controls in this game from reviewers, but out of all the games I've played in which the Wii controls were shoehorned in (Zelda included), this one makes it the least obvious. All of the motions feel very smooth and natural and the aiming with the Wiimote is, again, a far better alternative to an analogue stick.

Honestly, I got this through gamefly expecting a total sh*tfest but I've been pleasantly surprised about the game. Anyone else tried this yet? I think it's worth a rent for the multiplayer alone.

Cool, I've been thinking about giving this a rental. Do the multiplayer levels need to be unlocked or do they come up at certain points in the single player game?

They're unlocked right from the start and are a completely different campaign which requires cooperation to succeed.

Also, I just have to mention the jokes which arise every time we interrogate a captured guard. We imagine the dialogue going something like this:

Agent Red: Tell us everything.
Guard: I'll never tell you anything!
Agent Blue (deep southern drawl): Well, wouldja look at that, Red. He don't wanna TALK!
Red: That's right. Y'all know what THAT means?
Blue: Yup, time to make him SQUEAL!!!
Guard: Wait! Please, I'll tell you EVERYTHING!!!!
Red: Sorry, boy. THAT ship has sailed.

Ah, looks like your Wii arrived home safe and sound and is working properly.

I'm surprised that you are enjoying the game, SB. If I am not mistaken you weren't that big of a fan of the first SC game.

Yeah, the reviewers were having a field day about how bad the controls were in SC.

Didn't someone at NWR renamed the game "Splinter Cell: Double annoyance"?

After playing Red Steel, every other control scheme looks gold?

Like I said, Zelda's felt more shoehorned in than these do.

Someone here also said that Marvel: UA was a good fit for the Wii controls when I don't think anything could be further from the truth.

Any FPS is a bad fit for dual analog.

I picked Splinter Cell: Double Agent up for $30 on the Gamestop sale. I am enjoying the coop, but the controls are less than perfect. The graphics and lack of wii pointer in the menus both show classic "Rushed-Wii-Port-itis" but the game is solid overall if you enjoy stealth.

You should look for the Bob and Steve videos they show on X-Play. They're pretty funny and make good use of the Splinter Cell co-op modes.

I own and enjoyed the 360 version and rented this hoping it would put a different cool spin on the gameplay and that they would go nicely hand in hand.

Man, I'm sorry but the Wii version is just awful. It was already difficult to look at, but the controls really top it off.

I'd highly recommend giving it a miss.

I finally beat Splinter Cell Double Agent. If it wasn't so rushed I would probably give it a full thumbs up.  As it stands, there a numerous little glitches in the graphics, the gameplay (one level my sc20k would just start firing as soon as I aimed it) plus it locked up twice. I say pick it up at $20 only if you are a fan of the series. I will post a reader review.
