Title: No Wii at Best Buy... or anywhere!
Post by: DGibb on January 09, 2007, 05:42:55 PM
I have been trying in vain to find a Wii for myself since Christmas.  My fiancee and I received over $550 in Best Buy bucks for Christmas from various family members, and we really want to blow it on a Wii.  However, though I call my four closest Best Buy at the appropriate times tuned to their UPS shipments, we have had no luck.

They have not gotten any in since Christmas except for one store.  Three of the locations do not even show them as "On Order."  I know they are not lying to me; I used to work for one of the stores and they showed me the screens that show a line of zeros for both the in stock and on order columns.

I am not trying to whine about 'poor me, can't spend my money,' but isn't Nintendo supposed to have made more than enough of these?  I thought I read they had a more than adequate supply for the holidays (which, in my opinion includes January: the month of returns and gift card purchases).  Can someone enlighten me?

By the way, I've been reading these forums for over a year and a half, I have no idea why I haven't made a login until now...

check out itrackr.com

I was able to score a Wii for my little cousin yesterday.

The Wii is going to be tough to find all throughout January, a lot of people are in the same boat as you.  They have post holiday gift cards that are waiting to be used.  Demand for the system is incredibly high, and I don't expect the Wii to be easy to find until at least March.

First off, welcome! I hope you keep posting for a while..

I live in Calgary, and a day or so after Christmas there was a notice on their site saying that they were going to have "limited stock" available on December 29th. I lined up at 4 in the morning, and was 9th (21 systems available). Before that I had been calling everywhere with no success.

So over here, most of the retailers have been getting them since Christmas - you could try checking Best Buy online, but I'm sure they'll get some shipments in soon.

Where do you live by the way?

Yeah Wal-Mart did themselve a disservice by selling those "Gift Cards/Rain Checks", so that will keep Wal-Mart busy and else where others are looking for it because of their experiences with those who have had it and brought it to show off. So Nintendo will have supply problems because of the demand that was created.

I've got my Wii, but I would really like to get at least one more Wiimote.  They seem to be just as hard to find as the consoles themselves, while the classic controller is now easy to find.  It makes me wander if something about making the Wiimote is what is holding up Wii production.   It would make sense since that is where the new technology is.

Best Buy in my area expressly told me no Wii on Sunday -- they come in by UPS and not for their ad.  Also, BestBuy.com isn't selling the hardware, it says that due to limited stock, it is not offered at this time.

Darnit.

Well I just check my local Best Buy (in NJ) a hour ago and they haven't gotting any systems in since a week and a half and they say their going to get some in by the end of the week or very early next week so keep an eye out.

"but isn't Nintendo supposed to have made more than enough of these"

4 million units sold in less then 2 month V. ~8 million 360 sold in more than a year is pretty good, it just that everyone and their mother wants a wii
