Title: Nintendo / Nexon working on Wii project
Post by: Hocotate on January 03, 2007, 01:53:25 PM
Quote - Nintendo announced a partnership with the South Korean MMORPG developer Nexon, to work on a new Wii project. Nexon created the popular MMORPG Maple Story for PC in the past.
I hope this hasn't been mentioned before, I didn't see a thread on it. Anyone have any ideas what this new Wii project might be?

Well if it's game related, I would guess an MMORPG (Animal Crossing perhaps?), since that only makes sense. You don't want a developer who makes RPG's trying their luck at a FPS (although, that would be cool).
If it's software related, then maybe a new feature to the Mii channel where you can take your Mii's online and meet other Mii's; maybe swap files, or images, or maybe even chat with them. I don't know, something like that would be cool.

I hyaven't played maple story, but I think that it's basically a flash based sidescrolling MMO grindfest.
I'd hope for Nexon to be working on a similar, limited online scope, casual-oriented project. I can almost guarantee that it won't be hardcore in the western/japanese sense of the word.

MapleStory... I remember that game. Got my account a few weeks after Bera was released and played it for about a year. I lost interest, but it was great fun while it lasted.
Anyway, Nexon/Wizet (Wizet created MS, Nexon merely sponsored it) is supposed to release MapleStory DS sometime in the coming years, although many people suspect that it'll be a sidescrolling RPG rather than a MMORPG.
Anyway, my little blurb on Nexon: Nexon created/sponsored numerous other games such as BnB (an online bomberman clone), some online racing game I remember hearing about somewhere, a FPS called WarRock, and too many MMORPGs to name. I dunno how well most of these games did, although Nexon is making plenty of money and the two games I've played became increasingly popular in the time frame of my playing. Most games and pretty much everything about them are marketed as "casual," right down to their cute website (except for a few of the MMORPGs that have a 3D, fantasy-based, slightly more mature look to them), although from the two games I've played, BnB and MS, you really need to know how to play before you start (in BnB, you'll probably get owned too many times that you'll probably quit if you play too many times before reading up on some tactics and in MS, it's way too easy to "screw up" your character unless you at least loosely follow a guide/build).

I used to play a game called Shattered Galaxy from Nexon. It was pretty fun, they changed ownerships and I haven't played much sense.

I would mind a brand new IP developed by Nintendo for MMORPG! I honestly don't think any of their existing franchise work too well. Except for Animal Crossing of course.

Woah, you had to download maplestory to play it on the PC... I was hoping it was flash based but... blah.
Oh, it's been announced for the DS, btw.
