Title: Is Twilight Princess too long?
Post by: redalert33 on December 27, 2006, 02:26:39 AM
Hey everyone....long time reader, first time poster. So, seriously is it just me or is Zelda too long? Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Zelda -- the gameplay, story, magic; everything about it; but there can be such a thing as a game being too long. I mean, I've got 25 hours into it and I've just finished the 4th dungeon....that's not even half-way. Trust me, it's a minor complaint when everything else about the game is simply awesome. I think it's just that there are so many games I want to play, that I'm getting impatient by spending sooooo much time on it. What does everyone else think?

yes, games in general I think are too long, but there are always room for exception. I got Zelda but haven't play it yet, but I like to ask if the game have any time killer fluff added to it that is not necessary. Think Windwaker Triforce quest.

You can hammer through Zelda in around 25-30 hours.
Not too long in my book, since you can save at any time and play at your own pace.

hell no, if anything the last two Zeldas were too short, i dont agree with playing short games 12-70 hr for me

I disagree. I love the length of TP. I beat it in just under 60 hours and am glad it took that long. That was w/ sidequests and collecting things. I am a fan of long games. I hate short games I find they are a waste of a purchase. I rented Call of Duty 3 and beat it by the next day on HARD. Bring on the long games!

I think long games have it place, but there are a lot of appeal to short games too. Also short games tend to have higher replay value. How many times can you play thru a 70 hr adventure? Then compare how many times, someone can play thru resident evil 4 or even Gear of War.

I could do speed runs on Eternal Darkness in about 6 hours. I could play that one again and again for some reason...

For the type of game that it is, I would have preferred it to be slightly longer. Taking out all of the side quests, and diversions, I probably only spent 25 hours on the main objectives. Of course, the travelling is less time-consuming than Wind Waker, so more of the time was actually spent playing, and not getting from A to B. Still, there was quite a bit of that, too.
I do like short games, as well, but for what are supposed to be epic adventures, I prefer something a little longer.

I know that once me and my nephew RE 4 for the first time we would do speed runs more than once in a week. And once you get the infinite bullet weapons, the game becomes very easy and fast to beat.

I've played 25+ hours and I haven't even started the 4th dungeon yet! I'm currently having fun walking around and trying to discover hidden stuff. Zelda = the longer the better in my opinion!

I'll play a game as long as it compels me to do so. With Twilight Princess, that's currently 41 hours with no end in sight. I may have to find everything the game has to offer.
Super Metroid and the GBA Metroids are all very short games, but I've logged at least 50 hours into each of them because I find them to be the most replayable games ever made.

I thought it was. Once I finished Snowpeak Ruins I was about ready to be finished with the game. A lot of the length of Twilight Princess lies in getting lost, fetch quests, and collecting things. All those things, in addition to the large but largely empty overworld, make the game deceptively bigger and longer than it actually is. All in all, it's an amazing game; there are just a bunch of little things that bogged it down.

Zelda games are pretty much the only ones that I get around to finishing ... I just don't have enough time for much else. Zelda is my one exception.

I think it's just about right. I'm going to finish it with about 65 hours under my belt, but I've been trying to play the sidequests and such.

Too long? More like too short (not that it really is).

Well after putting in about 25 hrs (I'm taking my time) I am quite happy with the length of the game, yeah I just recently finished the 4th dungeon but it has been a great experience. The game has so much variety, some of it we have never seen before in a Zelda game that helps to mix up the pacing and action in the game. Not only that but when you have to find something in those so called "fetch" quests it is actually FUN and well designed unlike the Wind Waker triforce quest. My main fears about the length centered mainly around it being able to maintain a steady pace without feeling like stuff was tacked on and so far that fear has been shattered. Then again it could change later on but from what I hear it maintains that consistency.

For 50 smackers plus tax no game is ever too long for me. Least of all a LoZ title.

I don't know what's wrong with y'all, but I've already put over 100 hours into my copy of Zelda and I haven't beat it yet.

Too long? Hell NO.... In a way I'm just so egar to pass it and see what happens next I wish I could "hurry it all up". Having said that I am taking it really slowly and getting the most out of it.
I love the fact that I am going to be putting more than 70 hours into it by the time I'm finished. The more Zelda the better! Loving every minute, sometimes I find myself getting frustrated if I get lost or stuck in videogames, but not TP, I'm just loving it all!!
And replay value... I still play through Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask all the time, and they were 2 generations ago (Wind Waker too)... So I think I'll be revisiting this game once done.

I tend to revisit Wind Waker more than I have Ocarina of Time. I think it's because of how short WW is in comparison. I can just sit down and start plowing through and before I know it, BAM I'm finished. If Twilight Princess really is THAT long than oddly enough it will probably discourage my replaying it as often as I have WW. But my overall fulfillment with TP will be higher if the in-game is seriously larger than WW's.

I didnt find everything, but I got to the end credits at about 33 hours. It certainly feels that they were running out of ideas near the end of the game, but I still find it more enjoyable than Wind Waker, simply because theres more things to do at a pace that does not take forever to go from point A to B.
