Title: Pokemon mmo
Post by: ThePerm on December 21, 2006, 06:15:00 PM
Ok for years everyone has wanted this thing, and all we get is some sort of coliseum or coliseum online. Heres what I think Nintendo should do. Have Square/Enix make it. Why because FF does well, add pokemon too it and some massive advertising. I think it would do well.

Pokemaniacs(the generation that were kids) are ages 16-20. IT WILL BE BIG

my idea, post this thread on ever message board. Eventually it will get talked about so much it will happen.

The real problem here is Nintendo's reluctance to allow any sort of lobby system in their games.

No I never ever want Square-Enix to touch the franchise, it's fine as it is. It's more of a strategy game than an RPG to me.

Well I had been thinking the same thing for quite a while, so I believe it would be brilliant if that happened.

Pokemon Stadium/Colliseum all sucked. Been waiting for a true Pokemon RPG for a long time (along with a lot of people) and I just don't understand why Nintendo don't do it. Get Sqaure Enix on it, they'll do a damn fine job!!

TRUE POKEMON RPG

SquareEnix can leave altogether before they even have the chance to sully Pokémon's good name. And I don't know how you could type such an atrocious idea alongside such a good one.

I have refused to even touch a Pokemon game until they make a true RPG out of it, preferrably something online enabled, MMO even.

I am sure that I would LOVE Pokemon, but I just can't stand AT ALL the new Pokemon they have after 151. Pokemon Blue and Red are definitely the franchise's high point. Nothing beats good ole' Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur.

What's leaf green? is it original 150/151?

Leaf Green is a remake of the original Blue (was called Green in Japan).

I want a GB style Pokemon game for Wii, with online trading and matches.  I don't want just a colloseum game, but an actually GB RPG style game.

Yep me too. I want GameFreaks to do it.  The ironic part is that the base formula is perfect for with no tweaking. Hear that Nintendo?  No tweaking.  Well leveling should be harder.

and maybe having more that 4 moves total, maybe only 4 available at one time like GB versions, but with the Wii a level 99 pokemon can actually have every move it has learned through leveling and evolving, and that by going into a menu you can switch out what moves you want to have in battle, (maybe you can only do this in certain places to make the game the same challenge)  Sometimes it's a hair puller in deciding to get/take a new move when you don't want to give up a old one, this way you have the move and you can decide whether you use it or not, it's yours.)

Yeah.  I could see keeping the 4 move limit in battle but I think it should be more like the show where as you still have access to all the moves they learned but they just can only use 4 in battle.

err, i want my pokemon to be able to learn all moves, i want voice control via microphone attachment

and make the opriginal pokemon the most common and the other ones hard to find in the mmo world.

imagine
push the remote forward, a pokeball flies  on the screen, you yell "pikachu i choose you!"

your being attacked by a nidoking, he charges for you, "pikachu quick attack" nidoking becomes confused "pikachu head butt" nidoking looks stunned but uses surf, waves fill the area "pikachu jump"
"now thundbolt!!"

We had a discussion like this in the Gamecube board a while back. Where their were a lot of good ideas. (To keep it free use in game advertising tied to bill boards like in the manga, sponsoring different cups etc.)

And its true that all of the pieces are there Nintendo just doesn't want to touch two things, the possiblity of pay-to-play, and the interaction thing which they have no control over.

But you know making a deal with Sega or Square to use their network to host such a endevor might not be that bad as long as Nintendo has QA control over it. (Because what company in their right mind would turn down having an almost garenteed blockbuster on their hand were millions of copies would be sold on day one.)

You make my soul cry.  You should go play pokemon before you start calling for changes be made.  Nidoking is a ground pokemon.  Electric moves like thuderbolt have no effect on a ground pokemon (see how that is genius and makes logical sense).  A pikachu could never beat a Nidoking... Ever.  Quite frankly a pikachu can barely beat anything which is why the tv show is filth.

Also while I'm ranting, IGN needs to STFU.  Every game that comes out they complain that pokemon don't make noises, refering to the stupid cute garbage that happens in the tv show where they repeat their names.  Each pokemon have a species specific cry that they've used in every single game.

Mario is right Pokemon (GB versions) is perfect the way it is, except for them seperating every generation but that it could be argued is independent of gameplay.

It could. With Surf + Light Ball! Or by getting in a quick evasive attack and getting lucky.

Oh boy, another one of these. Jumping from 2D to 3D is like nothing for a Pokemon game.  Aside from the look(and now one day wii motion controles) There is really nothing to change but the look, it plays exactly the same. A full 3D world could really make the game come to life even more so than the DS and GB versions, but thats about it.

The Stadium games were awesome, no one knew how bad they stunk befor they had to fight a Bronza or a Bromer. I hated the Gamecube ones, because they were the Gameboy RPG's done very poorly. And the Stadiums that were  used to really test your skills, there were so few compared to the N64 games.

When you play Pokemon competitively the Stadium type set up from the N64 games are all you need. If you want the adventure, play the handheld versions.  Though it is nice to have both, thats for sure.

I think the way PBR is set up, that is almost perfect for online Pokemon. But I do understand the want for some type of lobby system to interact with other players. If that was added to D/P or PBR it would be perfect in my book.

Hey!  Ruby and Sapphire might have been crummy, but Gold and Silver had a lotta great new Pokes!  Crobat alone made it a must-buy for me.  And personally, I'd take Totodile/Feraligator over the original three starters.

What I don't get is that this is such a no-brainer, why wouldn't Nintendo think of it?

Also, how about just a freaking massive Nintendo MMORPG, the characters available to players would be based from Nintendo character, i.e you can make an italian plumber, or a gigantice ape, but they wouldn't be exacly Mario, or Donkey Kong, instead the "real" nintendo chars could be NPC's and maybe during special events, a game mod would become the actual character and have them do stuff, take part in a massive quest to protect the Nintendo kingdom, or protect an idea from being stolen by sony *hem hem* .

Why not Nintendo? I ask you Why not?

The strangest thing about this, is I don't remember the catalyst, but I remember Reggie(back when he was "just" the marketing guy) saying that Nintendo read message boards and smaller sites to see what people wanted of them. There has always been a call for this to be done, so to borrow a line from Scary Movie/I Know What  You Did Last Summer: "WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!!"  "WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!!"

in Scary Movie Guy on top of roof: "What am i waiting for?" guy jumps from roof "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH"

You know what else was a sure fire franchise for online?

Star Wars.

Star Wars Freaking Galaxies.

I can't believe y'all treating mmo's as something you can throw money at and then be done. MMO's are nightmare's to do right on that sort of scale...

Leave Pokemon alone and go ruin some other franchise! (like Firefly, for example...)

You're so right... an MMO is a nightmare to make, and since Nintendo knowsnothing (el-oh-el) about making good games, they of all people shouldn't try at all.

Nintendo knowsnothing (el-oh-el) about making mass networked games. Hasn't AC, Pokémon, friend codes and Wii Connect 24 taught us that!?!?

It's been sulleyed many times. Pokemon Channel.... seriously, what the hell was that?

Pokemon has basically been the same game since Red/Blue. It could use something new.

Star Wars Galaxies was actually pretty good when it first came out, but they they kept tweeking it and it turned into utter trash. There are millions of MMO ideas and franchises that could be huge hits, but for some reason developers always screw up even though the average fan knows exactly how to make the game better. From SW Galaxies, to a Pokemon MMO, to a pirate/buccaneer MMO (or even that World War 2 Online MMO), there are tons and tons of ideas and ways to make the games/make the games better and for some reason they either stay the same or make them worse.

Who are these companies hiring?

There's something else all the Pokemon games have in common, they all contain the word Pokemon.
