Title: Cut Off during Cut scenes...
Post by: Lynsanity on December 13, 2006, 04:13:22 AM
I got my component cables yesterday, and decided to switch to 16:9 480 progressive.  Everything was fine with Marvel Ultimate Alliance, but Red Steel has problems during the cut scenes.  I am noticing picture cut off on the bottom and top of the screen.  It looks as if the picture is in 4:3 and just made bigger for 16:9.  The end result is part of the picture being sliced off the bottom and top.

During the game it seems ok.  The cut scenes are bad, as I can not read many of the lower lines of dialog.  Has any one else experienced this?

I had the bottom of the text cut off in Red Steel in 16:9 and 4:3 mode. I think it's just a glitch.

Yep - it's a problem with Red Steel. I think what going on is that the developers/UbiSoft never considered that "overscan" would be an issue with most TVs and maxed-out the real estate used for the cut-scene subtitles. I'm wondering if this would still be an issue with a 16:9, flat panel (LCD/Plasma) display and component cables since, in theory, the fixed pixel accuracy of an LCD or Plasma screen is not supposed to overscan non-broadcast images.

I thought it was rather sloppy, myself.  You'd think they would've caught that in testing.  Kind of hard to miss cut-off subtitles in cut scenes, IMO.

After waiting for a couple hours in line just to play a few minutes of Red Steel on one of the bigger screens at E3, I had higher hopes for this game.

The French guy from UbiSoft (then again there's probably several) who you see in a few videos and once in Nintendo Power, who worked on the game, walked me through the demo stage but cut off my playing of it since the line was "getting long."  It was already long, long before I finally got up there!  >_<  Maybe they just like to cut things off.  Oh, wait, sword-fighting in this game doesn't have any of that.  Maybe they're compensating for that.  "Let's cut off some subtitles.  In the cut scenes."  >_>

Ubisoft is good at not testing games.

"but sir, this and that part of the game are crap."

"SHIP IT NOW, DAMMIT"

I didn't have the text cut off, but the game was rushed so it doesn't surprise me.

I had the left and right sides of my screen cut off using the composite cables, but component fixed that right up

I thought this thread was going to be about how you can pause during the cutscenes of any game by simply pressing the home button.

I was really looking forward to red steel too, disappointment seems to be its subtitle though.

Red Steel: Disappointment only for Nintendo Wii

The Nintendo setup on the WiiPlay tour had this exact same problem. They were using component, LCD and widescreen mode and no other game suffered.

Not true. While that works, most of the time - there are some games (like "Red Steel"), which give the home icon inside of a red circle with a line through it when it can't be paused.

You can't use Home to pause during certain parts of Madden 07, or during any cut scenes in Call of Duty 3. On a side note, I rented Red Steel, and while I just beat the first level so far, I don't see what the complaints are. The framerate kind of sucks, and the comic book cut scenes are lame, but the gameplay is pretty rock solid if you ask me. I guess I'm just not far enough into it.

Sometimes the Wii-mote loses sight of it position on the sensor bar and you spin around, doing a 360 degree turn, until the Wii-mote sees the sensor bar again. The thing about it is, it happens completely at random and a lot of people seem to think that because it is a random thing it's actually a bug with the game's control set-up, which I don't doubt since this is the only game I've seen this happen to.
