Title: Excite Truck haters: STFU!
Post by: Smash_Brother on December 11, 2006, 01:43:24 AM
Seriously, rent it, play the tutorial and get a few good hours under your belt before you rag on this game. It gets dramatically better once you understand all of the different methods you can use to accrue stars, how to perfect turbo jumps and how to ensure that you win in collisions.

There's something you can get from enough play time with this game at home that you just can't get at a demo kiosk...

The most underrated launch game of the Wii was Excite Truck, hands down.

I haven't had a chance to rent it yet as i'm still busy with zelda and hooked on wiisports.  Looks like lots of fun though.

I wouldn't go that far, but Excite Truck is much better than I had initially thought (based on my experience playing it for 15 or 20 minutes at a Wii demo kiosk a week prior to launch).

Excite Truck is AWESOME.  I love F-Zero GX with all my heart, but I went back to playing it the other day and instantly felt the urge to go back to playing MOAR BIG DAMN TRUCKS!

I go that far too.  I am not a big racer fan and this game blew me away.  No more stupid analog stick and the extreme fast pace are great.  SUPER TRUCK SMASH

Excite Truck rules! Seriously, this game is no sh!tty tech demo like everyone says. It has huge replayability on star earning alone. I just unlocked Super Excite Mode which holds a whole new challenge, and new levels, and from what I hear if you complete Super Excite with all S grades it unlocks a mirror mode.

Get on Excite Truck if you haven't yet, it is a ton of fun.

Not to mention that the multiplayer is one of the most balanced and dare I say, epic, I've ever seen in a racing game...I had my cousin putting up quite a challenge within an hour and a half of him first getting his hands on the game...

I got to put MotorStorm PS3 and ExciteTruck Wii into direct comparison and i have to say ExciteTruck is a heck of a lot more fun, although MotorStorm was only the demo.  MotorStorm's original trailers are pretty decieving but MotorStorm's graphics are still pretty top notch, only problem is the game wasn't much fun.

ExciteTruck FTW!

I have played a lot of Excite Truck in the demo stores, and I am not going to rent it, because I am hoping to get it for Christmas.  I hate realistic racing games.  I want my racing games to be focused on arcade fun with depth.

My favorite racing games include:

Mario Kart
Excite series (Bike, 64, Truck)
F-Zero series

I figure it's better to revive a thread on a game rather than create a new one saying the same thing.

I got Excite Truck for Christmas.  I've played it extensively (I've unlocked Super Excite), both by myself and with friends.
I love this game.
Seriously, as far as single player goes, it's the most fun I've ever had playing a racing game.  This includes F-Zero GX.  F-Zero seems put together better, but Excite Truck is definitely more fun and thrilling to me.
But that's not to say it isn't challenging.  I've only just gotten to the hardest part of the game (Super Excite, I'm still only at bronze) and I've already had some difficulty with it.  The challenge is tough and rewarding without being tedious (like F-Zero's story mode).
Two player is lots of fun, too, but I've had better multiplayer racing game experiences.  Namely Mario Kart.

So yeah.  I'd pay fifty dollars for it, if I hadn't gotten it as a gift.  Definitely worth a rent, and I highly consider it for purchase.  Give it more than an hour, though.  Once you really get the steering and stunts down, things get that much better.

I just have one question.

What Excite Truck haters? Everyone here seems to love the game or at least find it a slightly above average racer. I'm a huge racing game fan myself but only of arcade style racers. I won't have anything much to do with any game that claims "realism" as a benefit. Reality sucks ass. That's why I play games in the first place. And just as the first Burnout game surprised me with it's greatness so has this game. Excite Truck is the real deal if you're seriously into arcade-style, super fast racing games. It's just PURE fun. It's the best racing experience I've had since MK: DD without a doubt.

I got the game for Christmas...and holy cow it is a great arcade racer.  Probably one of the best I have ever played...if not the best.  I personally only like arcade racers too.  Realistic racers, don't feel realistic and to claim to be simulations they just make the game pretty darn unplayable.

Excite Truck has so much strategy to it in the single player game that you just can't help but want to play it more and more.  Unfortunately the multi-player races are almost unplayable.  I am hoping for a sequel with online play and more tricks.  We have an awesome Spin, I think a flip needs to be added, doing the same technique for implementing the trick.

I am usually not a big racer fan.  Other than mario kart the last real racer that I owned was F-Zero for the SNES.  But I found myself addicted to this game after I got it for christmas.  I just unlocked super excite mode, and I can't come close to beating the gate challenge mode on normal excite.  I love the over the top nature of the game, with big air and truck smashes.  At first, and in the demo, I really sucked it up.  But once I got to playing and got used to the tight controls, I got a lot better. Now I play courses over and over just so I can find new ways throught he course and new ways to get big air.  One of the scotland tracks(probably in platinum) has a POW powerup that I haven't been able to get and use without crashing into a wall, so there is still a lot of improvment for me to do.

In the early days before the launch, there were a lot of impressions of people who had played the game at a Gamestop and came away not enjoying it much, hence why I insist that people rent the game to get a more solid impression of it as the game doesn't really come together until after you've done the tutorials.

Yeah, to appreciate the experience, you really need to do the tutorials or at least have someone explain so you can pull off some really great jumps and chain a lot of boosts together.

When I was playing yesterday I started slowing down just to try and get into some accidents with my sister.  They made for entertaining replays.  She became the queen of drifting...she managed to win one race thanks to 66 drift points.

How odd. I played it at GameStop the day the demo kiosk went up and after one race I flat out KNEW I had to have this game as soon as I got my Wii. I don't get why anyone would need to get "in depth" with any racing game to figure out if it's for them or not. But maybe they just really wanted to play Wii Sports instead and were just taking their frustrations out on Excite Truck.

I played SB's copy. I have to admit that when I first played it, I wasn't all that impressed with it and in fact I was beginning to get annoyed by it. It wasn't till I played through the tutorial that I finally got into the swing of things and started having fun.

I've yet to fully play it so my opinion on it is still up in the air, but it is leaning towards the good.
Title: RE: Excite Truck haters: for the love of Reggie, RENT IT!
Post by: NWR_pap64 on January 13, 2007, 01:18:13 PM
Sorry for bumping this, but after thinking about it I regret not spending enough play time with Excite truck.

Like I mentioned, SB brought his copy along with the Wii and I ended up playing very little of it. This was because:
1. Wii sports enthralled the entire family and was easier to play and show off than ET (Seriously, the game does have a bit of a learning curve)
2. I helped SB beat Elebits most of the time
3. I got Zelda and me and SB were hooked on it
4. We usually had something better to do (SB had to check up on work, we had places to see and movies to watch).

Like I mentioned in my earlier post, when I first played it I was annoyed at how loose and floaty the controls felt. Seriously, even if you turn slight left your car goes ALL the way left. And the physics are floaty as hell (not really the game's fault, since all arcade racers have floaty physics). So I was beginning to get annoyed by it.

But like SB mention, doing the tutorial makes a huge difference. Once I was done with the tutorial I was about to get in the groove of things and the game started to get fun.

But alas, due to the circumstances I mentioned I didn't spend enough time with the game, leaving my opinion of the game in the dark.

I was annoyed by it, then started to like it and...that's where it ends.

Once I get my Wii, I will try to see if I can play it some more. I'll either rent it, buy it for cheap or borrow it as I really want to fully play it.

The controls are better than that, at least for me. Maybe you were using trucks with poor handling? I've only unlocked 2 or 3 trucks so far, but I prefer the Summit at the moment. I really think the game is awesome, and is probably the best looking Wii title out right now - maybe tied with Zelda.

This game is so awesome that even the cesspool that is NeoGAF has to recognize how awesome it is.  I've unlocked mirror mode now, and I've started in on that.  My favorite racer is the Alpine (Sunset Orange).
This game is ridiculous, I love it.  Everyone I've showed it to loves it as well.

I've been playing the absolute crap out of Excite Truck lately. I was thrilled when I unlocked Super Excite and saw there were about 10 new truck to unlock. I've gotten a lot of trophies, quite a few of my "next" things are set to 250 now. BTW, speaking of trophies, when you have one on the screen, move your Wiimote around in all different directions - it shows you just how absolutely PERFECT the transition from moving your Wiimote to steering/jumping/etc is.

I played it at the demo kiosk and thought it was neat, but I wasn't sold.

It wasn't until I rented it and ran through the tutorial that I saw the fully beauty of the game by way of all the various means to collect stars, tricks and stunts you could do, and getting the hang of the controls likewise helped greatly.

I admit that I am still on the "its neat but I'm not sold" stage, hence why I asked for SB's copy so that I can play more of it.

Once I started to understand the game I was starting to have fun, but Wii Sports and Twilight Princess dominated my attention.

It was a very nice surprise and reward for all the hard work I went through to unlock it.

OK, after spending quite a deal of time with ET all I have to say is...the game's awesome!

The controls are great. Once you get the hang of them pulling off stunts, barely escaping crashes, flying through the air and nailing the landing feels extremely satisfying!

It honestly makes me wonder how much time the reviewers spent with the game before bashing it to pieces.

It's also great when you get those stars. I already have many S ratings because of them!

I just got my Wii yesterday. I'm loving excite truck! I think the graphics are
quite good - I guess I was prepared for the worst. The framerate is nice, the
water is done very nicely. Most importantly, the gameplay is a blast and the
control works well. My only problem is that I tend to get rather wild in my
movements until I realize it and slow my hands down. It takes very fine
control. Hopefully online for excite truck 2.
Great game.
